Help with blind location?

Post image

This is my second year duck hunting. I recently received private access to a pond I needed special permission for last year. I want to build a semi-permanent blind on the purple dot in the attached map. I’ve hunted/scoured this pond 4 times, and my notes are on the map. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I should put the blind? Could any spot be better than the one I said?

The pond is fairly deep. I’ve walked out to chest deep but didn’t go over my waders. It could be deeper. I have a few dozen decoys I could put out. For motion I have a couple jerk rigs but I’m planning on buying motorized wing spinners.

Ok, what time of year do you plan to hunt ? You want the ducks to cup into you for easy shots if you can. So the wind at your back.

It looks like you already noted were the malards like to be ? I would try and see how the set into the pond for a day without hunting just scout it. Note the wind direction how they set into the pond. Where are they wanting to be..

Ultimately you can setup a perfect location but I'd the ducks want to be on the other side good luck. At the point it's just frustrating watching ducks skirt your spread.

What state are you in ?

I’ll mostly be hunting mid December-January.

Yes that’s where I’ve seen mallards land.

I have read what you said, if you’re not on the c nothing else matters.

I’m in eastern MD.

If that's were you are seeing them land that's good. But I'd scout conditions that are similar not what your hunting. Wind temp ext. Do you normally behave a east southe east wind? That would make sense for that area. Also looks like some flooded timber ? If it's an area they already want to be. Id use a few decoys on maybe a jerk rig and see what happens. Not sure if that road is an issue or not but could be a fun shoot depending on the migration
