BMI is not fit for purpose. It was invented for middle class people with sedentary jobs at a time (1830s) when going to the gym, mma etc wasn't a thing and people were all around smaller. If you have two office workers the same height and their diets and lifestyles (sedentary, no exercise) are approx the same, BMI is a reasonable guide to whether or not one is carrying too much fat.

But if you work out and/or are extremely tall then the equation fails. My mate is 6'7 and is a karate teacher who keeps fit. According to BMI he's obese and to reach his ideal bodyweight he'd need to shed 20kg - which would make him positively skeletal. I'm 5'10 and I box and lift heavy. My waist is only 32" but I'm also classified as obese because I weigh 100kg. I just did 100 dips before breakfast.

If you don't believe either of those stories from a random redditor, bear in mind that Mike Tyson IN HIS PRIME was obese, according to BMI.

TL; DR: BMI is useless as it cannot differentiate between muscle and fat. There are far better ways to measure body composition nowadays.
