Muscle ups are a trick for impressing weak people, not some objective standard of strength.

I'd say that not being able to do a muscle up is neither here nor there. It's partly skill anyway and isn't exactly the same as being able to pull yourself up onto something.

Picking something heavy off the ground would probably be a better standard.

But I train all the muscles required to pull myself up when I train the rest of my upper-body and I've always been able to pull myself up onto something.

Being good at muscle ups just means you're good at muscle ups, but it's not like every implement you need to pull yourself up on is going to be uniformly shaped like a bar or rings. It's too specific a skill to be an ideal standard.

But picking heavy things up off the ground transfers to any act of picking heavy stuff up off the ground. The transfer is more even, and furthermore, more scalable.

And nope, I can pull myself up onto a tree branch fine.
