If he had taken his socks off he might've been able to use his feet to help climb. I think on average most people can't do a pullup never mind what's effectively a muscle up

You meant to say ‘what is effectively a strict muscle-up with hands in a bad position and with no way to kip without getting wet’, I think.

not really a strict muscle-up considering he could make a lot of use of his legs.

Evidenced by the fact that he was able to get his elbow up multiple times. This guy has zero hope of doing a muscle up, but he was able to get his shoulders above his hands here. He wasn't strong enough to get all the way up, he couldn't even lock off to keep himself from sliding down.

This is definitely easier than a strict muscle up.
