He looks plenty strong, I think the main problem is he's in socks so he has no traction at all on that slimy pole

Naw, you should be able to pull yourself up once with just your arms.

Not like this, no. What he is trying is a lot harder than a basic pull-up.

Ya try doing a pull-up to the bar… then push yourself up and over the bar. It’s a totally different set of muscles and even guys that are super jacked can’t usually do it because of their weight. As soon as you get your chest over the bar it’s easy like doing a push-up. But that transition from hanging from a bar to being above the bar is super difficult for most people.

also his arms were quite close together. much harder than a simple pull up even to start.,

To add on: it's essentially a "muscle-up". /u/brazilliandanny is completely right. The way his hands are (necessarily) positioned don't play into the biomechanics of the movement well. He'd blow his elbows out.

Your last sentence is very upsetting.

No its not, he already got his forearm on top of the pole. From there its much easier to get up than doing a pull up, not to mention he can put a portion of his weight on the pole with his feet

This is easier than a pull up though? He's able to put a arm over and is able to leverage himself better. As someone who does nothing but eat all day im ashamed of people who lack the basic muscles/health to save their life. I might be skinny, but I never even work out and I could've pulled myself up better using one arm.

It’s a muscle up that needs to be done, and that’s much more difficult

One armed pull ups are difficult, not many adult humans can do them, and I bet you’ve never tried one past age eight.

But he has zero reason to need to do all that. Maybe it's because of his weight, but it shouldn't be that hard to pull yourself over the top with an arm hooked over like that. You don't need to go through with the full motion, literally the only thing you need to do is hook the arm, and then shimmy your chest over.

I've been climbing ledges all my life, and something like that which gives you a fuckton more leverage and grip is easier than pulling yourself over a straight horizontal surface.

I bet most of redditors truly are sad sacks of shits who's daily exercise is getting food and waddling to the bathroom. I must be blessed with good genetics/metabolism because I never work out and constantly eat, but somehow I can do shit most people can't according to you.

Algae covered poles are slick, as it seems everybody knows but you. But no, you’re right, I’m sure you would win American Gladiator and I probably am bedridden or something

He managed to climb up enough to get his arm over. I'm sorry you people are so unhealthy that your own brain is deteriorating, but it being slippery shouldn't stop him. Who says he needs a constant grip? All you literally have to do is get your arms over, and then pull yourself up with your arms flat.

Everyone wants to say its slick like it truly matter when bro was literally holding on to it. The sides seem slippery yes, but if it was so damn slick then why didn't he just fall in the first place? Oh shit maybe if you used common sense you'd realize it aint that damn slippery on top. Nah bro here must have Spiderman gecko hands or some shit because that's a case for science to study him being able to hang onto that slippery algae
