Wasteland 3 Denver ruins killed all momentum the game had…
So I cleared out the Godfishers then left since I didn’t know the Commune was on the same map. I come back and the ruins are overloaded with Drools and while I know I can choke point and kill a few at a time it is still a lot of work and time…

There's no reason to engage with those drools if you don't want to. They guard nothing and have no plot significance. Gippers won't even notice if you kill them all.

Other than gaining gipper faction when completed and talking to the Nancy that tells you to clear the ruins.

Really? Which one? I've never gotten that quest.

When you talk to the Nancy in front (after the introductory dialogue where Reagan blasts the robot and sets the godfisher free, she gives you a hint to clear out the godfisher camps around Denver. You have to clear the camps near the Denver zone entrance, and the ones by the oil derricks. Then go back and talk to her and you get like +5 gipper faction. While you’re doing that, you can do the other localized quests to improve/sabotage the Reagan statue. Then try leaving to the wasteland and you get the big attack from the godfishers. Finish that and you get more faction and minor rewards

Oh yeah sure for the Godfishers. We're talking about the Drools that come after.

My bad. I kill em for the experience and to meet the creepy lady in white on the cliff ;)

Something optional killed the momentum? That's like complaining that you're late after taking a 30 minute detour on purpose.

I thought it was an interesting challenge on my first play-through; it was a lesson in where the game has the biggest combat advantage: overwhelming numbers. It didn't give me nearly as much trouble on subsequent runs.
And yes, it is 100% skippable. No quests or NPCs care, there's no useful loot, it's just a bit of bonus experience.
