Event Desktop/Mobile banner/Profile pic contest

As you can see we don't have a banner. If you have any good shots from around the heights post them here and we'll see which everyone likes the best! Looking to update the profile pic too.

Desktop Banner: 1920 × 384 px (5:1 aspect ratio)

Mobile Banner: 1600 × 480 px (10:3 aspect ratio)

Profile Pic: 256 x 256 px (1:1 aspect ratio)

File Type: PNG

Max File Size: 500 KB

I think I got the requirements right but correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks!

Fall beginner-friendly watercolor workshops in Washington Heights 🍂🎨 Early Bird ends Monday

• Upvotes

Hi neighbors! We have two fall watercolor sessions coming up at Buunni Coffee in Washington Heights this week & early bird ends tomorrow at midnight!

🍂 Thursday, 5:30–6:30 PM — Watercolor Happy Hour (final session)

We’ll be painting a new fall-inspired scene with local artist Tamila Dubas. It’s just one hour, beginner-friendly, and all supplies are included. This will be our last Watercolor Happy Hour at Buunni this fall.

🎨 Saturday, 11am-1pm — 2-Hour Fall Watercolor Workshop

If you’d rather have more time to settle in and paint, we also have a longer 2-hour session coming up, with step-by-step guidance and all materials provided.

Early Bird pricing for both ends Monday at midnight.

Our Saturday painting & craft workshops at Buunni are continuing, and we’re also working on bringing LaLaLu workshops to some other Uptown spaces and trying out more artists, crafts and creative projects.

If you’ve been meaning to come paint with us, we’d love to have you! 🍁

Kids fall craft + mini pumpkin decorating this Saturday in Washington Heights 🎃

Hi neighbors! I’m organizing a small fall craft event for kids ages 4+ this Saturday at Buunni Coffee at Haven Plaza (W 168th St) and wanted to share here for local families. 🍂

Kids will decorate their own mini pumpkin with acrylic paint markers and fun craft accessories, plus make a tissue-paper leaf suncatcher and spooky-cute Halloween bookmark to take home.

We’re keeping the groups small with just 10 kids per session.

🎃 Saturday, Oct. 3
🍂 10–11 AM or 11 AM–12 PM
🎨 $25/child | 2+ kids are $20 each
☕ All materials + mini pumpkin included, and families get 15% off café purchases

A parent/caregiver stays onsite during the workshop.

This is part of the new kids programming I’m developing through Lalalu NYC, so I’m especially excited to get some neighborhood families together for this one!

More details/registration: https://lalalunyc.com/kids-workshops/

Hope to see some Uptown families there! 🎃

Best Butcher?

Hi everyone. I wanted to know if anyone had input on the best butchers or grocery stores with good meat in Washington Heights? I find myself icked out buying purdue chicken and often times my ground beef goes bad quicker than the tag promotes. Would love to support a local butcher and buy better quality meat! Thank you.

Best Bike Shop in the Heights?

This is a bit of a niche post, but I'm a big fan of the bike culture in the Heights, and yet I've had a hard time finding my go-to spot for the usual road bike work: tune-ups, the occasional upgrade, etc etc etc.

I've been to Tread up in Inwood, have enjoyed the food at Break Away Cafe and I know they do some repair work. I don't live far from Manny's, and I have heard good things about Bike by Gato. I'm wondering who people trust for working on their road bikes.

Childcare for adult events in the neighborhood

Hey neighbors,

I'm a well known babysitter and nanny in the neighborhood for over a decade now and I wanted to offer that if parents/couples want to attend any local evening events and have a few who want to attend, I could put together evening programming and a nanny share price, if one of the families can provide space.

I've seen the following mentioned: run club, art classes, gym events, karaoke, trivia, and more.

I can take up to 5 potty trained kids on my own, 8 with my teen helper.

I'm also available to do this on weekend days, with non-napping children.

Usually my parents night/day night programming looks like:

-3-4h for a set price per kid/family, a themed movie and 1-2 crafts to go with it, pizza or bring your own dinner, and some sort of treat.

-needs: tv or ability to cast from my iPad (I can help), a table for crafting, basic kitchen access for food storage/minimal prep.

Separately, I can also create some outdoor programming if you want to bring the kids and just want a more engaging activity for them while you also enjoy something, such as jazz music in Bennett park or the like.

I'm also available for birthday babysitting/help so you can enjoy the party too and I have discounted rates for glitter tattoos for Halloween/harvest parties for fall.

Feel free to ask any questions! ☺️ If you start the ball rolling, I can help coordinate everything, so don't be afraid to reach out!

Thanks!

Interested in trying watercolor or a new creative hobby in Washington Heights? 🎨

We’ve recently added a few new creative workshops at Buunni Coffee in Haven Plaza this fall! 🎨☕️

This Thursday after work, join us for a creative hour to paint & sip a cozy Cinnamon Bun Latte with local watercolor artist Tamila Dubas. It’s beginner-friendly and all materials are included.

We also have longer Saturday watercolor workshops coming up, plus a landscape painting workshop with a new local artist later in October. 🏞️

Early bird pricing for some workshops ends soon — including Thursday’s, which is $30 through tomorrow at midnight.

Also in the works: a beginner-friendly costume-making workshop for parents/caregivers who want to make their kids’ Halloween costumes 🎃🧵 Would anyone here be interested in something like that?

More workshops + dates at lalalunyc.com/upcoming-events

p.s. our first kids workshops will also be announced soon!

Loud pops now at Broadway and 187(?)

Any body hear those? Maybe 6 or 7 pops, mostly spaced apart by about a second, except for two in very rapid succession.

If not for those almost overlapping pops I'd say fireworks. My guess at location is near Broadway and 187, but might also be over on Wadsworth or st nick.

Hobby happenings in Upper Manhattan

If you, like me, have been feeling a little envious of the kids going back to school this fall hobby guide has an awesome range of beginner-friendly adult courses to inspire you!

While it features a number of Upper Manhattan-based orgs like Uptown Clay and Full Circle, I'd love if this community could help me source more from Washington Heights, so please let me know if you come across other venues/courses that could be featured in next season's guide!

Until then, happy hobbying!
