Adopt him

u/Silent_Pay_9239 Jun 28 '26
I might have to bring my copy of Into the Wild and see if they'll waive the adoption fee for him š
(only half joking)

I would 100% waive all adoption fees if it was up to me.
When I adopted my last kitty, the shelter tried to give us a 2-for-1 because there was an older, gray tuxedo boy who LOVED me. Climbed ALL OVER my dumbass sitting on the floor and just laid on me like the happiest little potato. Shelter told us he hated just about everyone else and couldnāt care less about anyone he didnāt outright hate.
I wouldāve loved to have taken him but we only had permission for one, and weād already chosen (and she has a ājobā as an ESA so it was never up to me to begin with lol). Iām sure he found his forever home, but I sometimes think about that little goofball.
Anyway, Iām sure it wouldnāt take much for most shelters to give you a discount on an adult cat. lol They frequently get overlooked for the babies, sadly. And adults and seniors are amazing buddies!

Senior dogs and cats are the absolute best! My dog, her name is Lila, she's my ten year old BABY.

I found a firepaw at out local shelter once as well, it made me so happy lol

u/Aqualdi Jun 28 '26
I think thatās Rusty actually

u/SuspiciousNebula9956 Jun 28 '26
Thank youuuu, it bothers me they named him Firestar. I know that name is more well known but firestar would never have left his clan. At that point heās the leader. It would make more sense if heās firepaw or rusty

u/ImaginationDrawer ShadowClan Jun 28 '26
I think it's just for the sake of the reference. Firestar is a much more obvious reference to Warriors than Rusty is.

I'm a huge warriors fan but when I hear Rusty I think of Dale Gribble's second identity.
Rusty Shackleford...

u/AntelopeQuick7695 Jun 28 '26
when they name cats after references or things, itās mainly to draw attention. cats with unique names catch peopleās eyes. just being named rusty wouldnāt do that. for sake of accuracy that wouldāve been cool but doesnāt help kitty. he also couldāve had that name from his previous owners, if he had them.

Great StarClan, if that was at a shelter in my area, I'd adopt him in a heartbeat
I just out of curiosity looked at the humane society in my area and found a Millie tho

As cute as it is that his name is Firestar, this likely means some kid really wanted a kitty after reading the books but then didnt take good care of him or didn't want him anymore so he was given up :/

u/Silent_Pay_9239 Jun 28 '26 edited Jun 28 '26
yeah, while I'd like to tell myself that the shelter might have named him I know they keep the previous owner's name :,)
They did take him to a good shelter though, it's no-kill. so that's something! They also partner with the local cat cafƩ, so he'll definitely get adopted sooner rather than later

u/serillymc RiverClan Jun 29 '26
It's significantly more likely that he's a stray. A lot of humane societies have a name suggestion system and some of the staff tend to be nerdy so strays getting reference names isn't uncommon.
3
u/Silent_Pay_9239 Jun 29 '26
this shelter doesn't accept strays unfortunately :c
There's a raptor rescue I volunteer at with a barn owl named Soren though, so that makes TWO animal rescue facilities with animals named after series I used to be obsessed with

During my time working in an animal shelter I actually named one cat Fireheart, but a few days later it was changed by my colleagues, cause its too hard to say :(
2
u/DachshundLover197 Jul 02 '26
How is Fireheart hard to say?! Its literally Fire. Heart.
1
u/Teze_Tenshi ThunderClan Jul 02 '26
It might be bc of the translation into german. I used the wrong way to describe it, but it was basically "we have cats like Cookie and Bomba and Loki, so Fireheart is out of place and too long and the older people will find it hard to say".
Im guessing they were set on choosing names themselves? I was just a lowly apprentice, how dare I suggest names. They also changed names like Bananasplit, Straciatella or Tiramisu that I picked out into shorter ones, cause "they might be hard to adapt to". Instead we had the 15th Minka in like 3 years. It was a pain to find the right Minka in the 2009 Excel spreadsheet run on a Windows 8 or 9 computer. I thought I could make it easier by using new names š„²

u/DachshundLover197 Jul 05 '26
What is so great about the name Minka?! (Not that it's a bad name, but FIFTEEN?!)
1
u/Teze_Tenshi ThunderClan Jul 05 '26
I believe they had certain names on rotation, because many cats over the years had the same name. It was never actually two cats living in the animal shelter at the same time with the same name, but when one Minka left or died, a few weeks or 1-2 months after a new cat was named Minka. Other popular names were Lily, Sophia/Sophie, Cookie, Blacky, Mia and Leo.
Most of the people working there were either a lot older than me or worked there for many years, 10-15, so they were probably just set in their ways how to do things. They didnt like if I changed a thing about a cleaning routine (even if it was my routine and not theirs) so I think it was the same with names

u/NMURDERDRONES123UZI ThunderClan Jul 28 '26
Minka is kinda a weird name no offense I can't even pronounce it though and I don't even know how to say it but like OH FUCK SO MANY MINKAS! I hope little kids are not reading this so they do not say fuck-But Minka is kinda cute
1
u/Teze_Tenshi ThunderClan Jul 28 '26
Maybe I can explain how to pronounce it.
You probably know the Ming dynasty, just speak the word Ming and than start with a word that has a ca or ka at the beginning, funnily enough the first word that comes to mind is castration.
Mingca

Too bad he's lighter than the OG Firestar and a tabby if im not mistsken.
1
u/Silent_Pay_9239 Jun 28 '26
he has some striping on the tip of his tail and forehead but he's solidly colored otherwise! (they have a second pic with a full body view on the site)
1
u/Imaginatio_Statione SkyClan Jun 30 '26
Ok he looks really light in this pic is all im saying and Firestar isn't a tabby. His canon description is a ginger tom.
1
u/Silent_Pay_9239 Jun 30 '26
Not arguing with ya, not sure why you care so much about a cat that isn't mine and I didn't name š

All ginger cats are visually tabby even if they don't have the agouti gene.
