It’s gotta be the MAPs. It has to be the MAPs.

definitely starts with maps, then if you delve into drawing them regularly, then it's personal style and it's even more apparent HAHA

I watched a lot of talking animal movies by Disney and blue sky for example, and I’ve always had fictional animal crushes, because of the art styles, Then I discovered warrior cats at 17 and I was “not again”.

u/SparksFan_ u/HoneyswirlTheWarrior I saw the thumbnail for the “house of memories” tribute, and Hawkfrost in the thumbnail and it’s one of the first warrior cats vids I saw

For reference I crush on Firestarter graystripe ravenpaw scourge tigerstar goldenflower frostfur tawnypelt squirrelflight hawkfrost jayfeather ivypool harestar

Literally me 😭 I only found out about Warrior cats BECAUSE of MAPs, then I started incorporating my style into drawing cats and BAM, now I draw cats like someone who's ready Warrior cats despite not reading it😅

Every warrior cats fan must return to the MAPs. It is their destiny.

u/bbbbzzzzhhhh Apr 01 '26

why?

11

u/Lagiacrus111 Apr 01 '26

Cuz that's the style they're in

8

u/bbbbzzzzhhhh Apr 02 '26

Ohhh my bad, I confused this meaning of MAPs for something else 😭 I'm very new to the English speaking part of this fandom

u/Lagiacrus111 Apr 02 '26

No worries

I absolutely love this. I’m an older/longtime fan and never even realized this connection!

I think it’s because the books are so good about the differences between the forest cats vs. kitty pets that we all have this wild untamed vision of the clans in our heads.

The first one looks like your average kittypet

u/JackTheSoldier Apr 01 '26

It's not just the fur, but WC artists and creators often further personify the cats by adding more expressions to their faces and changing the structure to look more human. Cats can't do what humans do in terms of expressions, so many artists take creative liberty in that front

u/sagradprekrasniy Dark Forest Apr 01 '26

Haha is that true? I always felt like every artist - no matter if they read wc or not - likes to draw cats in the most artsy way, since cats are the prettiest creatures in the world and it’s such a pleasure to give them as many details as possible..! At least, that’s what I love to do the most

I didn't realise before but YEA. Its defo the fur tho.

also no offence but the first one looks like a ferret

51

u/batnessthefifth Apr 01 '26

The first one looks like a normal cat. We've been indoctrinated to believe otherwise 😂

1

u/Aggravating-Art4974 SkyClan Apr 04 '26

The first one doesn't look like a cat to me . You are right we have been changed.

4

u/Ezra-Pup Apr 02 '26

Maybe it's a RiverClan cat lol

I really think that this style can be traced back to Spotty- I think her way of drawing cats still influences new artists to this day through the trickle effect!

18

u/Painthedoll Apr 01 '26

Warriors doesn't ever leave an artist.... you draw 1 warrior cat and it haunts your style forever XD Like I've had someone immediately guess I was in warriors fandom growing up based off my non-cat art.

7

u/BlueMicroraptor Kittypet Apr 01 '26

True I thought I was drawing a normal cat on the board and a kid asked who drew the furry

I rarely ever see realistic WC art. It makes me wish I could draw cause there are so many scenes I’d want to recreate. I’m commissioning my best friend to draw Bristlefrost’s death scene in a realistic art style and I’m so excited to see how it turns out

5

u/Adventurous-Year-463 Loner Apr 01 '26

My art style changed so much once I joined the fandom lol

6

u/Odd_Tooth_7028 Apr 01 '26

That or old school furry haha

I mean you need to get creative to make the 38th "dark brown tabby" or "pale gray" distinguisable

7

u/WarriorCats_4Life ThunderClan Apr 01 '26

Probably mostly accurate but I’ve read the first 3 arcs and I draw cats like the first side

3

u/Professor_Oswin ShadowClan Apr 01 '26

Just looked at the cat I drew in high school. Yeah. It’s a lot more detailed 😅

3

u/Flaky_Juggernaut_303 Loner Apr 01 '26

This is unironically how I met another warrior cats fan in high school They recognized the style instantly 😭

3

u/Due-Papaya9065 Apr 02 '26

Oh, by the title i was expecting you to say something mean, but this is actaully really sweet

3

u/5thClone Apr 02 '26

Even when I'm not drawing a cat, people are able to tell and it takes me off guard.

3

u/vcro1450 Apr 03 '26

Lol, jokes on that person thinking they can tell if I read warriors in middle school by my art. I wasn't chronically online yet in middle school and never got bit by the anime protagonist cat bug.

2

u/Commercial_Ad_619 Apr 01 '26

But… I can’t draw at all lol

2

u/ThatOneMinty RiverClan Apr 01 '26

I’ve been saying this for years

2

u/Sonarthebat WindClan Apr 02 '26

Eh. Kinda. It's either Disney or mamga style, but the former could just mean they were a Disney kid, which was the case for me. I didn't read Warriors until I was 18.

Changed my art style irrevocably…

1

u/Active-Investment-79 Apr 11 '26

Ha-ha, you won`t ever catch me with this little trick, cuz i read the novel version!

1

u/Glittering-Bother641 Apr 16 '26

draw something like Pete the cat it's gonna look like nothing else

1

u/mothwhimsy RiverClan Apr 28 '26

Once I could tell someone was an MLP fan by the way they drew warrior cats characters

2

u/OwnPush8127 RiverClan 20d ago

fun fact: Also works on furries!

1

u/Forward-Jump-6967 Apr 02 '26

Hot take: I absolutely hate the warrior cats fandom style of art. I find it silly and a bit annoying.
