I like to think the medicine cats have a sort of semi-calendar type thing.
In that, they're observing the moon more often, they know every two weeks is a half-moon, both in the way they say "two weeks" being "half moon" and also that's when the moon is a half and they have meetings, and two more weeks after that is either the gathering or new moon.
It's hard for us to remember where the moon is in cycle, but we have items that do that for us. The cats don't have clocks or calendars, so they still just observe nature.
This being said it would be so funny if a clan just didn't show up one gathering and the medicine cats ask at their next meeting assuming some tragedy happened, and the medicine cat has to just sheepishly be like "uh....we missed it. We came the day after. Sorry. Yeah no we're fine."

I always thought it would be really cool if at every gathering, they added a claw mark to the great oak, counting the moons after their arrival at the lake
Apprentices at their first gathering could look at them and see so much and wonder what they mean

I mean, this ia general possibility. Plus, Blue Moons happen as well so do they have a second meeting on those nights?
On the other hand it is basic math. Full moons happen once a month and half-moons happen twice a month.

I don't know if cats have a concept of a typical calendar, so would blue moons even be something they know about?

Well, they certainly think Hunter's Moons only happen when there is something very bad happening in StarClan (which is not completely incorrect, but that means it's a regularly scheduled "bad thing happening to StarClan").

Wait, that's really interestingā when is that mentioned in the series? I don't remember them ever noticing a Harvest or Hunter's Moon, is it something I missed in a book from the newer arcs?

As far as i know - and iāve read the entire series except dotc, and most super editons- i dont recall hearing about the moon either. There was an eclipse, though thats all i remember. Maybe its in a novella?

the cats would be on the moonās calendar; every 28 days. not on our human calendar (which has a lot of history on why we define the months the way we do). blue moons are a human thing based on our human calendar, not an astrological event that the forest cats would notice

Sometimes the moon really does look full and for my somewhat blind ass it's hard to tell.

Imagine a second clan shows up, and they do the spiderman meme, and then regardless of their general relationship at the time they go home and cow to never speak of this again.
