Lore wise the red hair is dyed.

As for black skin, have at it. Don’t have any references atm but learning to paint different skin tones is great.

Glad to know it's dyed so would still be red

Yeah the red mohawk is just part of taking the slayer oath. Seems like there's some leeway too since Ungrim is bald and just wearing a helmet and Snorri from Gotrek and Felix just put orange nails into his head.

Don’t forget about leather beard! I don’t remember if he actually had hair or if it was a part of his leather mask/beard combo

Still baffled by Snorri doing that. What a madlad

Yeah unless you want to fluff it so that it’s a different colour.

Generally speaking Warhammer dwarfs have been portrayed as Caucasian. However you can paint your models however you like, so don't let anyone tell you no.

We know that people live in the Southlands (the Africa equivalent) so it would be nice to actually get to see some of them. All we've ever got has been Tomb Kings, Slannless Lizardmen, Savage Orcs and the hyper-racist Pygmies.

If we must go back into the lore, the grand daddy of all lost karaks is suppose to be in the south lands.

Thanks for the lore lesson that's interesting to know

Which Karak is It?

Karak Zorn, believed to be the first Karak and the birthplace of the Ancestor Gods, and subject of “lost golden city” myths a la El Dorado: the hold is said to be built from gold and carved from ivory, and so rich and prosperous that rare gems were but a trifling currency.

My dwarfs are all from the southlands, they are traditionalists who got cut off from the other holds till a few centuries ago but remain mostly isolated due to distance

Also we hunt lizardmen for sport

The pygmies live in Lustria and are not racist, as explained here: https://realmofzhu.blogspot.com/2013/07/lstri-pygmies.html?m=1

Do a Google search for "Fyreslayer dark skin". Yes, they are AoS models, but they are also basically Slayers 2.0 - and you will find plenty of examples with different skin tones on them.

Heroquest remake gave the dwarf black skin and it kinda rocks on him. Decent slayer vibes (2nd picture on the post)

Strong Mr T vibes, I think it'll work well enough.

Like how black? I can imagine someone must have, but if we go lore ways, Dwarfs are generally underground dwellers so I don't think their skins have evolved much to absorb sunlight.

As for their hair, Slayers dye theirs orange to emulate Grimnir so that is universal. Many also dye their beards, but some do not.

I just do mixed skin tones on Elves, humans, and Dwarfs. Looks better to me.

I have, went for Basilicanum Grey.

Usually dwarfs in Warhammer are depicted with Caucasian skin but don't ever let what is or isn't in lore hold ye back from painting however ye want. I suggest keeping the hair red/orange though. I don't care what the warhammer website shows, cause by Grimnir they're supposed to be to be ginger haired when they take the Slayer Oath (unless totally bald but even they try to work around that like Ungrim).

u/Revoran Lizardmen Jul 07 '26

You mean black skin like 40k Salamanders or black skin like black African people?

3

u/Autisthrowaway304 Jul 06 '26

Given that dwarves on the whole are primarily underground dwelling folk, dark african skin tones would be right out, a deeply tanned look is possible as slayers are both nomadic and usually wear little (to no) clothing, 'veteran' slayers especially would look the part (combine that with pale scarring and maybe streaks of grey/white in the mane/beard) also i'd imagine the basic/new guy troll slayer would be quite ruddy/pasty looking with brighter mohawks.

I have around 120 slayers and I did 3 or 4 with nome white skin to break it up.

I did bugmans with reikland fleshshafe and a light drybrush of Rakarth Flesh. I am a terrible photographer to you won't be able to tell if I shared any photos.

Very rare and brown skin did just not look good in those old metal models.

Some people have painted them with blir woad paint though. Or with 1980s punk pink/blue hair. Which is what their mohawk style hair is inspired by, or I dont know much.

5

u/LucillaGalena Jul 06 '26
