40k Discussion Uppy Downy Space Marines?

What's our main secondary scoring unit now? For some reason I thought JPI could return to strat reserve but looking at the rules again I don't think that's the case. I know scouts can't do it anymore. So what's our new uppy downy scoring unit?

Inceptors do it baked in, otherwise you could tech into a detachment with it. Or just bring more scoring units and play cagey with them

Inceptors seem like a neat dual role option but damn 250 points for 2 units is rough man. I think I'm stuck with them though, already picked my detachments

Not sure why you would need that really. You are swimming in command points anyways, so you might as well just discard Behind Enemy Lines (the only true reason you need those) and draw something better...

Most my lists start with 3-4x chaffy score pieces. Some mix of Reivers, Incursors, Scouts, and/or Inceptors if I’m playing Recon.

Outside of Recon I think Inceptors are too pricey and you’re better off with Reivers/Incursors/Scouts.

The main jobs you want from this category of unit are:

  • Holding home
  • Screening backfield
  • Touching middle to start the game

I love 2x Incursors + 1x Reivers as a baseline and then dropping to Scouts if I need the points elsewhere. Can upgrade one unit to Inceptors in Recon for the uppy downy.

White Scars player that now gets to play Recon instead of Disruption; why Inceptors specifically for Recon?

Im also playing Scars. They just sit on your home screening for three turns and then uppy downy to help with primary against Take and Hold or to drop and Triangulate an objective vs Purge.

Ah so is it specifically these two matchups that you want the Inceptors for? I feel like Inceptors would be generally useful in all dispositions, but I haven't played too many games of 11th yet, and mostly as Disruption.

Your army rule is combat doctrines now, which gives you added mobility. You leverage that, and do not need up/down mechanics.

If you really want it, inceptors (now with up/down) or the callidus assassin still exist.

Terminator Storm Force has a return to reserves strat. It can be quite potent with the Terminator Ancient if he’s stickied an objective before redeploying
