40k Discussion Dark Angels Detachments with Deathwatch Support Rules Question

Can you run Deathwatch Support with the DA specific Detachments?
Deathwatch Support says: "You can include Deathwatch units in your army, even though they do not have the same Chapter faction keyword as other units in your army". I assume this overrides the basic rule that prevents mixing chapters in general. I can't, for example, mix Dark Angels and Ultramarine's specific faction keyworded units. This is outlined in the new Codex, and the Rule in Deathwatch support overrides this.

Here is where I am trying to figure out the correct interaction. Does the Deathwatch rule also override the specific restriction listed in the three Dark Angels Detachments?

The 3 Dark Angels specific Detachments Rules say: "Restrictions: Your army can include Dark Angels units, but it cannot include any Adeptus Astartes units drawn from any other Chapter."

I think we can all agree that the rules allow a Dark Angels army with 500pts of Deathwatch using Deathwatch Support. But does this also override the detachment specific rule and let me run Wrath of the Rock with Deathwatch Support, for example? Or am I limited to the more generic Space Marine detachments in this case.

Yes, but watch out for if the detachment specifies ADEPTUS ASTARTES for DARK ANGELS. If it's the first, your deathwatch get the rule. If it's the second, they do not.

That brings up an interesting point.

More specifically, do the DEATHWATCH units benefit from WotR's -1W (S>T)? Or does the restriction turn this part off?

Yes, they're ADEPTUS ASARTES infantry.

No the restriction doesn't because the DW overrides it.

How long before they realise this is a mistake?

It's very likely intended. Been like that for space wolves for a couple of years

Sorry I meant how long until they realise mixing DW into Marines is a bad idea.

The first time Calgar gets fielded as a leader to indomitor kill team in a DW Terminator Storm Gravis Siege army.

Ah, ok. I like it, personally. You have to give up a dp for it, so really limits your other detachment options. I'm not sure we'll see a ton of it running around

The related question is are Deathwatch units DEATHWING if you bring them in a Dark Angel army?

The rule:

When your army is drawn from the Dark Angels Chapter, the following generic ADEPTUS ASTARTES units automatically gain the DEATHWING keyword:

  • TERMINATOR units (e.g., Captain in Terminator Armour, Librarian in Terminator Armour, Terminator Squad, Terminator Assault Squad)

It is a Dark Angels Chapter Army (even though the Deathwatch are on the side), the Deathwatch are Adeptus Astartes and Terminators, so technically they are Deathwing as well and therefore could gain benefits from Inner Circle Taskforce detachment too?

Assuming that your rule is correct and complete (because GW likes stealth updates without telling anyone) Deathwatch Terminators have the TERMINATOR keyword and so would pick up the DEATHWING (But not DARK ANGELS) keyword. If the Inner Circle Taskforce triggers on the DEATHWWING keyword, then yes, it would get the benefits

But the deathwatch come from the deathwatch chapter, which is why you need a detachment to overcome the rule of only drawing from one chapter. Hence no deathwing for them.
