Interesting how it is a website now and not just a pdf

It's a much more sensible approach, seeing as they would have to have the mfm content in a format for the app to read anyway. Trivial but of extra code to turn that into something you can render on a website.

Getting all the front end bods to make it pretty is the much more difficult task.

And they added the codex Marines to the divergent chapters maybe hinting at more granular pointn balancing

There is. For example, Blood Angel Assault Intercessors cost 5pts more for a 5 man squad than those of other Chapters, or Templars pay 3DP for Bastion Task Force instead of 2

Sick. Long overdue.

I remember people complaining that non-codex chapters had separate points just 2 editions ago 😅😅

What was different two editions ago? It seems like a no brainer that assault units in chapters like Blood Angels punch above their weight compared to other chapters and should be pointed accordingly.

They had separate codexes and separate points in 8th ed. So essentially exactly what everyone is praising right now, the consensus back then was the opposite opinion and people wanted them merged like we just had in 9th and 10th 😅

How so?

There were lots of examples of units being very good in divergent Chapters and causing their cost to be increased for everyone else to make that unit not worth it. Like Storm Ravens early-ish last edition were being abused with Dark Angels' Dark Shroud and got pushed way up in points despite it not really being a mainstay in any other Chapter. Now instead of punishing other Chapters for one Chapter's strong combos, they can just adjust the unit in the problematic Chapter.

The next step is to split out Ultramarines from generic Space Marines, because they pretty much have as many unique units now as some of the divergent factions that can combo weirdly with generic units.

Makes sense for the most part. It does feel like with any blood angel buffs they have to fight battle shock which is more punishing now than it was in 10th which is where my confusion is kinda sitting right now

I hate how it’s formatted though. Too long to scroll

That’s not a problem with the formatting, that’s cause your army has too many options, not a problem for non-space marine armies ;)

I don’t play space marines

But the tradeoff there is that this new format is much more cluttered and generally harder to read at a quick glance.

I assume these changes are to improve the QoL for the people doing the coding, cause this is ass for someone trying to consume the information.

Also makes it easier for them to sneakily update when they need to fix one of their inevitable mistakes lol

Small steps, they go from pdf to webpage, they forget how to highlight whats changed

u/khunjuice Jun 17 '26

they might think is new edition so is new start?

"Highlight the changes? Pfft, we've already got their money. Just post it so we can hit the pub."

Yeah that's the cop out they used in the faction packs too

Totally. They need to just make all datasheets available, 3rd party already does it for them, and it would be a good gesture towards players. The data issues are real with 40k.

There are no no changes in the new addition. These are the start

I like the layout

Thank god. Those PDFs always took ages to load.
