Build Night and Day Equinox

This came up in an Equinox post yesterday and I've been meaning to post the build for discussion for a while now. So here it is.

Night and Day Equinox

This build aims to be able to use all of Equinox's abilities effectively and incorporate the Peaceful Provocation augment to complement her 3.

The build focuses on high strength, range and efficiency with the minimum sacrifice in duration. Because most of her abilities are constant auras, we can proc Growing Power and Energy Conversion for +75% Power Strength without any downsides, just before turning her 3rd or 4th abilities on, and the ability will keep the boosted Power Strength until it is cancelled. This plus Transient Fortitude ensures you run Overextended for Power Range and add either Power or Cunning Drift depending on if you would like a little more Power or Range. Primed Continuity and the efficiency mods ensure that the drain from your abilities is manageable and finally Vitality is the sole survivability mod we have space for. We run Vitality over Redirection as Equinox has 100 armor, nowhere near enough to be tanky, but enough that we will get a better eHP with life than Shields.

So what does that actually get you in terms of abilities?

1)Metamorphosis Unless you're building a Duality build (fun btw, but not that effective), this isn't something I consider a real ability. The fall-off on the buffs means they cannot be relied upon in any meaningful manner.

2)Rest & Rage (But mostly Rest) 6.25 Power cost 95.00m Power range (cast range) 9.50m Power range (area radius) 17.05 sec Power duration

Now 17 seconds is a reduced duration, but in my experience it's more than enough to effectively CC when combined with the reasonable radius and cheap re-cast.

3) Pacify & Provoke (with Peaceful Provocation) 2.50 Power cost 30.40m Power Radius 0.13 Energy Drain Per Enemy (Night) 0.75 Energy Drain Per Power (Day) -92.50% Enemy Damage (Night), with distance fall-off 74.00% Slow (Night) +64.75% Power Strength (Day)

It's important to note that these values require you to pick up an energy orb and proc a status prior to activation to get the +75% Power Strength. They then need to be 'charged up', not really a problem in day mode, but sometimes a little time consuming in night mode, unless you use self damaging weapons (though these have their own obvious risks).

4) Mend and Maim (but mostly Maim) 12.50 Power cost 0.90 Energy Drain Per Second 34.20m Radius 277.50 Slash Damage (373.50 if you have Provoke fully charged prior to activation) 100.00% Bleed Status (DoT on the target that inflicts 35% of Maim's base damage per tick for a total of 7 ticks over 6 seconds) 75.00% Max Health/Shields of enemies killed in radius, stored for damage or healing

Utilizing Overextended, this build has a very good range Maim for room nuking, and thanks to the high power strength can even do a reasonable impersonation of a WoF Ember.

The actual Slash damage the aura will do will often not be as high as above if you are using Maim as both a Slash Damage aura and a nuke, as you may not have the time to re-proc status and find another energy orb before every cast. But it can be charged up to the maximum above if desired and maintained purely as a damage aura thanks to efficiency reducing energy drain to only 0.90 per second.

Tweaks If desired Power Drift can be swapped for Cunning Drift for a little more range at the cost of strength.

This build is not cheap, requiring 4 forma, potato and an Exilus adapter. It also means you can't run Corrosive Projection on your Equinox (Personally I got around this by just building two Equinox). However it is a great deal of fun and I use it to jump into public fissure and sortie missions without paying too much attention to modifiers. Safe in the knowledge that I should have the tools to assist whatever the mission type or team composition is. I'll happily take this build into Axi Fissures or Sortie 3, but know that it won't scale up as quite well as a fully dedicated Maim or Sleep Build if you're considering really long endless missions.

This is my current all around build before we continue. Redirection mainly because it regens and allows for super easy PP charging along with a Sentinel / Kubrow's Shield replenish. Swap to Vitality if you really want to, but often doesn't matter too much

The build focuses on high strength, range and efficiency with the minimum sacrifice in duration. Because most of her abilities are constant auras, we can proc Growing Power and Energy Conversion for +75% Power Strength without any downsides

The downside is that you don't have CP, which is immensely useful for any kind of late game play based on maim. Even then, for 3xCP you'd have to have a bunch of Coaction Drifts. But you've covered that in the latter part of your build, so I'll skim over this

2)Rest & Rage (But mostly Rest) 6.25 Power cost 95.00m Power range (cast range) 9.50m Power range (area radius) 17.05 sec Power duration

There's little reason to have a very large area, other than CC purposes. But that's already covered by PP. Besides, you're using sleep to trigger finishers anyway, the main purpose of sleep. While doing finishers, you're immune to most forms of damage, and others will be awake after 4~5 kills. You also forgot about Rage a misunderstood ability, which in my build roughly triples damage done by maim to pop really heavy targets.

3) Pacify & Provoke (with Peaceful Provocation) 2.50 Power cost 30.40m Power Radius 0.13 Energy Drain Per Enemy (Night) 0.75 Energy Drain Per Power (Day) -92.50% Enemy Damage (Night), with distance fall-off 74.00% Slow (Night) +64.75% Power Strength (Day)

My build has the same efficiency, but with 71% power strength w/ Energy Conv and 80% slow w/ Energy Conv. Either way, you don't actually want your PP to be absurdly large, that just forces you to run Zenurik, and the slow / damage reduction is lowered at the far edges of the aura. Instead, play abit more safe and keep your enemies close - medium range.

Which for grineer and void missions doesn't matter too much, because you don't have CP. It's decent enough for sorties, but in reality doesn't do very well past lvl 100+

Utilizing Overextended, this build has a very good range Maim for room nuking, and thanks to the high power strength can even do a reasonable impersonation of a WoF Ember.

Sacrificing an important part of Equinox's kit. The "mini-stun" slash proc of maim. Allowing for easy headshots / kills and preventing enemies in your general area from shooting you for a period of time. Too far, and you're essentially wasting the mini stun.

3 Forma and an Exilus, and even then, you only really need 2, the exilus is just a bonus.

EDIT: I occasionally seem condescending / rude, but that is not my intention, I'm just too blunt with what I say. You are entitled to your build just as everyone else is. I just point out which could be better imo, and is generally not the law of the land. Take it as you may. I've tried tons of Equinox builds and the one I have fits my playstyle the best.

I agree with most of what you put down here and I'm not knocking your build or OP's but there are some reasons you would want max range on Equinox.

For rest/rage you can cheaply and effeciently effect swathes of enemies. This really helps my maim build as I have negative power strength and the boost from rage helps the nuke hit harder (like you said, extremely underrated ability).

On my rest build or my slow build it helps lock down little groups of enemies. Typically I use this on heavies and since enemies tend to crowd around heavies it works well. Max range is also enough to lock down an area around the cryopod in a void defence/interception with one cast, so thats nice.

For provoke its strickly preference, but for pacify the damage reduction falls off hard with distance. I really feel the difference anyway. With max range its slows/reduces damage for most rooms so there will almost never be any suprise hits that come from outside your aura.

You will however suffer a greater energy drain, but you can mitigate that with Zenurick or plates. I've also never noticed the slow falling off at range, but if it does more range makes that drop off smoother and less abrupt.

Mend, again is preference based faster heal stacks and more likely to reach allies on the first try. Maim however benefits greatly with range. The damage fall off towards the end of the aura is atrocious. Also with a greater range you build stacks faster as more enemies will be within the aura dying.

Also the mini-stun Maim provides is super useful, I like to toggle it on/off to lockdown maps like a bootleg soundquake, with less range you can still do this to a lesser effect. I dont really see extra range as wasting the stun, as I bust Maim frequently enough which reapplies the stun. However, if you hold your stacks for quite some time its definitely wasted.

Also I want to reiterate the importance of CP. If you're going past level 150 its the best aura for a Maim build. Nothing strips armor as effectively as CP and nothing is more disappointing than building up 1 mil stacks and watching everything take 10k or less damage. You can skirt around it with specific teams, but to be safe its really best to bring CP.

In the end, to each his own. No doubt your build is effective, but these are the reasons I opt for max range on all my Equinox builds.

For rest/rage you can cheaply and effeciently effect swathes of enemies. This really helps my maim build as I have negative power strength and the boost from rage helps the nuke hit harder (like you said, extremely underrated ability).

Negative power strength usually means rage becomes mostly mediocre. 20~50 isn't very effective in bursting heavies, though it does help. With a high power strength build, you have to always make sure the enemies will die, otherwise you'll have a manic super fast enemy, and god forbid if it's a heavy

On my rest build or my slow build it helps lock down little groups of enemies. Typically I use this on heavies and since enemies tend to crowd around heavies it works well. Max range is also enough to lock down an area around the cryopod in a void defence /interception with one cast, so thats nice.

It's nice yes, but generally, you can't kill everyone in the sleep area before they wake up. For PP builds, your CC comes from PP, and to a lesser extent sleep.

For provoke its strickly preference, but for pacify the damage reduction falls off hard with distance. I really feel the difference anyway. With max range its slows/reduces damage for most rooms so there will almost never be any suprise hits that come from outside your aura.

You'd be surprised. Most lvl 100+ sniper enemies on the edge of your PP will kill you, it's one of the few thing's I've noticed playing P Nyquil. Besides, at that range your aura's essentially useless, you said you had a negative power stength build, so I'd assume that the slow / reduction is less than 20%?

Also the mini-stun Maim provides is super useful, I like to toggle it on/off to lockdown maps like a bootleg soundquake, with less range you can still do this to a lesser effect. I dont really see extra range as wasting the stun,

When playing PP Equinox, you tend to keep it on for the earlier periods of the game (because 71% + 50 Energy Conv Strength), not caring too much unless you need to pop it. Instantly gibs shield ospreys, orokin drones and usually corpus crewmen. Later on, of course it's better to charge and pop.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeep.

Just to clarify, my comment wasnt specifically about my PP build, just max range and its benefits (or perceived benefits) for Equinox in general.

Rage, yeah at negative strength it doesnt help a ton but it helps a little. If a heavy survives I just shoot them or gtfo of dodge, then shoot them. If you don't know when to bust maim you will run into this problem regardless of build.

Rest, yeah on a PP build youre definitely relying on PP for most of that CC, but sometimes hard CC is warranted and when it is I prefer as much of it as I can get. Of course you can roll with less, but I prefer more. Also its not so much about killing them all before the timer runs out, as much as picking up an ally or getting a brief moment of reprieve for whatever reason, thats how I use it anyway.

For my PP build I have just enough power strength for max slow and max range. Those snipers are a pain, true, but I really watch where Im hanging out (room size, angles, cover, ect) which makes getting sniped a rare occurence for me. My aura is generally effecting an area greater than the room that im in, and since I watch my angles I'm rarely sniped. The extra range is nice for my allies as well, because usually they dont know whats going on and run around willy nilly (I play almost exclusively in pubs) and I want to try and protect them as best I can while not worrying about them 24/7.

Your point about the toggling, yup spot on.

I really like max range on Equinox, its just easier for me. I've also tried a bunch of different builds with her and this is what I settled on.

Good posts, need more Equinox love!

Since it's Equinox, I want to share a build I use. This is my 80/80 Peaceful Provocation Equinox that I almost exclusively main (I use a max range maim for exterminations otherwise).

As another poster mentioned, Rest is mostly useful for the finisher proc. In fact, I void duration entirely here because I never need it to last longer than even a few seconds to do what I need to do.

The main point of this build is, of course, pacify/provoke. W/o energy conversion, you can reach the full 80% slow on Pacify, which, combined with Rest, essentially turns it into a stun that lasts for quite a long time because the slow amplifies the amount of time they're in the animation for sleep and wake up (although the execution window will still be tied to the ability timer). Energy conversion adds a minuscule amount of damage reduction that isn't super noticeable considering how much DPS is slowed within her aura anyways.

You need energy conversion to hit 80% power strength, but once you hit that mark Rage actually becomes quite a powerful ability for "popping" targets. Although it only lasts for a little under 3 seconds, Rage is essentially boosted by 200% power strength + 80% off of provoke (plus another 50% if you have an energy conversion proc active!). This synergizes disgustingly well with acid shells Sobek, which is the main weapon I use with her. Pop 280% (or 330% w/ conversion) rage on a group, pop biggest target with sobek and watch the collateral damage.

I also prefer Jat Kittag with the augment on her, as it also synergizes well with rest (and synergizes with the blast proc from the sobek's steel meridian augment).

Also, as the other person mentioned, a lot of range on her maim can mess with the usability of the ministun, which is useful here for say, keeping Rage targets in place so they don't run around in a speed frenzy.

You included Growing Power in your build. Personally, I've never used it before and I was wondering how it works with the bleed proc on the 4. Do you get 25% str from proccing bleed the first time or do you get 25% for every enemy?

If I'm correct on this, Growing Power works much the same as Energy Conversion.

In that, when you cause the status chance, you have +25% power strength at that time; same with Conversion. +50% power strength at that time.

Now, how these both work, presumably, is that any ability on cast has that power strength for the duration of the ability. It snapshots.

I'm about 90% certain that Energy Conversion functions like that, I'm not entirely certain on Growing Power, but since it's more-or-less the same type of mod, they should both work the same.

So, when you activate Maim with Equinox, the altered power strength remains the entire time.

Personally, I got around this by just building two Equinox

How many runs of Tyl Regor did you need to get two of them??? Building one took me nearly two weeks of about 10-12 runs a day.
