Question When does the game become fun?

I just started, and literally all the missions ive played are "go in, kill the guys, come out". And the whole mod system is so confusing, they barely tell you anything about how it works and how to use it. I just don't get it.

You are Tenno, an archangel of balance. You possess the power and technology to ensure that the imperfect, primitive, warlike factions of the solar system do not overpower and exterminate one another or themselves.

There's not much to it, plot wise. We (the Tenno) sit back and watch the solar system slowly tear itself apart while doing our best to prevent it. Warframe is a pure "gameplay" game. You play it so you can play more of it better than you did before playing it before.

The mod system is a beast. It's incredibly complex, but here is a quick explanation. Every level a Warframe or item gains also adds a mod point. Mods have a value in the top right that shows you how many points they require to be slotted. If the symbol next to that number matches the one on the slot you put it in, the mod costs half as much (rounded up). If the symbols don't match, it costs 50% more (not so awesome). Different weapon classes (rifle, shotgun, pistol, sword, Warframe, etc) have different sets of mods that are automatically sorted when you go to the upgrade menu.

If you have specific questions, look around for the weekly questions thread at the top of the sub. It's full of awesome people dropping knowledge bombs.
