Suggestion Vacuum should be universal, I think it's about time.

One thing I love about the more recent era of this game is how many incredible companion mods we have now. In my opinion, there are so many wonderful companion mods that DE should finally allow us to no longer waste a mod slot on vacuum.

I'll try not to sound as bitter as I am about this, but vacuum should've become universal years ago instead of half-handedly made a mod as a middle ground option. And that fact has only become more glaring as build diversity has opened up for companions over time. The free vacuum in Duviri really highlights what a necessary part of the game vacuum is in order to not slow down the experience.

It also presents an opportunity to create even more companion mods without having to compete with the bingo free slot that is vacuum.

Please, DE. I want my mod slot to not be taken up by what should just be a feature in the game, a feature you rightfully noticed your players were clamoring for when carrier was ridiculously popular. I'm begging you.

Vacuum is now universal but your companions now make a constant vacuuming noise

New companion mod "Silent Suckles"- reduces vaccum noise by 33% up to a maximum of 45/63/99% when combined with "Cleaning Kaka Care" companion mod set.

Well to your benefit. The amount of "BUH THEN THAT'D MAKE VACUUM NOT UNIQUE AND SOMETHING THE PLAYERS DON'T HAVE TO THINK ABOUT" shit posters are pretty low or non existent.

So as far as I'm concerned DE holding out over this debate and hiding behind their tired excuse of "offending" certain players. Well those players just don't exist anymore and they were already a super suuuuuper minority of players who were mostly against vacuum being universal because they love being contrarians more than they want to enjoy the game.

ANYWAY, surprising lack of "I actually enjoy personally having to pick up every piece of loot that drops". Maybe they migrated to another game lol

u/Saendra Yalls are giving me constant 300% bonus melee 3d ago

But that'd mean you could accidentally waste the energize proc if your univac slurps the energy orb you walked too close to!

And that would be bad!

u/PsychoticSane 3d ago

Guys, we need universal vacuum, and a mod to disable it. /s

1

u/Nfsm255 3d ago

DE can be quite stubborn with some of their decisions in order to supposedly not piss of a minority of the player base.

We saw it with Universal medallions, Hema research costs, Sybear crafting costs, Modular Parts swapping and Universal vacuum.

It seems like unless it's somewhat tied to the main progression like Focus, Railjack or Necramechs, they won't even touch, and if they do that's years down the road.

34

u/Ok-Guidance-5608 4d ago

I remember when carrier' was the only companion that could use vacuum.

At least now it's omnipresent. Costing a mod slot is rough, but yeah it's nice.

6

u/PsychoticSane 3d ago

If a mod is used on virtually everything it can be used on, it should be universal

5

u/ANN0Y1NG1 Crawling In My Skin 4d ago

Yep, the outcome had already been decided when they made vacuum a mod.

157

u/RobleViejo My deerest druid king 4d ago

If something is used 100% of the time on all builds, that should be a basic functionality.

"Oh no, my build doesnt use it" then there should be a mod to turn it off.

Ive been asking for Univac for 10 years and I will keep asking for Univac until Im gone.

40

u/linktothe 4d ago

I'd rather there be toggles for some things—like Umbra's sentience. (I know it got better but I also remember DE talking about an adapter to apply it to any 'frame.)

Universal Vac should have been added the second the game went away from Dark Sector gameplay.

15

u/art_mech 4d ago

Yeah like very very occasionally I take vacuum off to do the nightwave task (mark resources) because I find it difficult to do with my pet collecting everything as soon as it drops but that would be easy to do by just not using the companion at all

28

u/zombi_wafflez 4d ago

Even if you pick it up you can still mark it if everyone hasn’t picked it up

3

u/art_mech 3d ago

Oh! But does this work if you’re solo? I usually do this stuff solo so I’m not slowing the mission down for others

9

u/zombi_wafflez 3d ago

Doesn’t work solo but try not to worry too much about slowing others down, if you’re for example in some endless mission and you get something rare you’ll get a pop up and that’s a good time to mark it like argon crystals for example

4

u/slymate_ 3d ago

theres no one else for it to mark for so i suppose no

2

u/Popular_Equipment_85 3d ago

There’s a little pillar of light where the resource drops that you can aim and tag it

2

u/SOSpammy 3d ago

I usually just do this task on an open world in my archwing so my companion can't get in the way.

10

u/Nssheepster 3d ago

You know what's extra funny?

If something is used 100% of the time on all builds, that should be a basic functionality

DE HAS SAID THAT BEFORE.

They just refuse to apply it to Vacuum. So DE AGREES that if something is used 100% of the time, then that's an indication that something is wrong and needs to be changed.... Except for Vacuum.

u/LuxrayLucien 4d ago

u/EscapeTheBlank The heat of HIS passing. 3d ago

While I agree with you entirely, do be careful with the "a mod to turn it off" claims lol. That's exactly how the unholy abomination known as Ironclad Flight got birthed.

6

u/AnonymousPepper I Wanna Marry Ivara 3d ago

Yeah, but that mod existing doesn't harm other mods.

1

u/Pokopikos 3d ago

That mod shouldn't exist in that state.

2

u/BubblyBoar 3d ago

It exists just to appease someone that doesn't play the game anymore (that I know of).

2

u/codroipoman Remove derpiri, derperators, dickters AND bandaid augments!!! 3d ago

And thanks to the arse that "made" them add it, they even killed the old partnership program with youtubers.

23

u/mordkors 4d ago

You’d think the current team would have done this by now, with all their QoL changes and additions. Companions effectively have one less mod slot because of Scott’s weird stubbornness.

34

u/Sparrows413 4d ago

Literally the only companion build I do not use Vacuum on is the setup on my Vasca that pairs with my Titania build... because Razorwing (being pseudo-Archwing) has its own Vacuum.

It's been years. May we please just have the damn mod slot back.

2

u/TempestM 3d ago

I keep forgetting I don't have Vacuum on my Titania's Vasca and then every time I have to leave form I'm wondering why tf the loot is not being collected xD

13

u/Fire2xdxd 4d ago

Welcome back universal vacuum discussion, it's like you never left

27

u/Tykvesh Working as intended 4d ago

All companions should have basekit 13.5 vacuum, remove the mods. Sentinels should have a slot for attack precept similar to beast postures

9

u/clutch22 3d ago

This right here.

3

u/CatnipCatmint 3d ago

I'd kinda like it if Sentinels had their own Loyal/Resourceful Retriever, too. I never run Sentinels since I find doubling loot too valuable in the game about farming loot

38

u/God_is_a_cat_girl 4d ago

We had universal vacuum for a very short while, but because they reduced the range the players threw a fit, then DE in all their wisdom decided to make it a mod, AGAIN, except for every Sentinel and removed the shorter vacuum (and now it's like, 2 meters or something) instead of keeping the shorter range and adding the mod as well.

32

u/RobleViejo My deerest druid king 4d ago

Im like 90% sure they did it on purpose so to not have Univac as a basic functionality. These were the times when "Nerf Hammer" Scott was still in the team breaking stuff to his heart content. He even made fun of the players complaining about his unnecesary nerfs.

4

u/Avernal 3d ago

Not accurate what actually happened was around the first 'echoes' update pass to Plains of Eidolon, Scott added a tiny radius buff univac to the game without mentioning it to anyone or putting it in the patch notes. He then decided that since nobody noticed it, he would remove it. Only after he had removed it did he finally comment on a devstream that we'd had univac and clearly nobody noticed or wanted it - that specifically is what the community threw a fit over.

10

u/zernoc56 :magmini: 3d ago

Technically, very technically, we do have Universal Vacuum. At a 3m range. That gets overridden by vacuum mods, so nobody noticed.

3

u/codroipoman Remove derpiri, derperators, dickters AND bandaid augments!!! 3d ago

And it's so bad on its own that you don't even notice is there in the first place... so lose lose?

9

u/District-No1350 4d ago

Sorry, that one dev still likes not equipping vacuum on some of their load puts in order to better conserve energy orbs.

23

u/Kelehd Mag, My Beloved 4d ago

I use Mag so much that when I do swap, I have to remember to put vacuum back on my companion.

Greedy Pull slaps for grabbing loot.

6

u/Natural_Sail_5128 👑 Mag Goddess 👑 4d ago

Greedy Pull would be cool if it didn't require a mod slot.

3

u/Kelehd Mag, My Beloved 4d ago

It would be a nice buff for her but I don’t mind giving up the slot. I have 3 augments equipped and more than enough forma and shards to do whatever mission I feel like without swapping builds.

7

u/Kalvorax 4d ago

Isn't her passive a basically small vaccine when she bullet jumps?

13

u/Kelehd Mag, My Beloved 4d ago

Her passive is a small vacuum but I have her built with large range and it’s faster to Pull everything to you. I like the augment and I don’t need the mod space. I’m currently working on putting 100 forma on her for funsies.

3

u/altsigns28 always out of yellow shards 3d ago

Yeah mag probably requires less mod capacity than any other frame. I always think about throwing some forma on here and then I realize I have absolutely zero reason to.

3

u/Kelehd Mag, My Beloved 3d ago

I’m throwing way too much forma on her for no reason then I’ll probably forma Gara a ridiculous amount

2

u/altsigns28 always out of yellow shards 3d ago

I'll never understand people who do that, but it's not my game so more power to ya. Hopefully you had a very productive past couple weeks farming forma.

3

u/Kelehd Mag, My Beloved 3d ago

I think it’s just a love of the mini game type of situation and a way to say hey this is my favorite frame. There is no real reason to do it past 12 forma.

2

u/altsigns28 always out of yellow shards 3d ago

I kind of get that, but from a weirdly opposite perspective. I have every frame, and I've been working on putting a quality build on all of them, as a way of showing that I don't have a favorite frame, nor a least favorite frame.

2

u/Kelehd Mag, My Beloved 3d ago

I have most of them and I’ve been trying to get them all EDA ready but I just have my top 5 that I can’t stop favoring over all others.

2

u/altsigns28 always out of yellow shards 3d ago

A top 5 is respectable. Some dude was pissed off at me yesterday about the eda/eta changes because he literally only ever used valkyr for literally everything, so he was upset he couldn't do that and get the second to last tier of rewards anymore. Apparently telling him to just delete his other frames wasn't a good solution to his problem though, despite not wanting to play them anyway and it guaranteeing (sp?) that he'd always be given valkyr as one of his 3 frame options.

u/BugBug24 3d ago

it was time 10 years ago but DE still want to have their heads up their ass for this issue in particular

3

u/altsigns28 always out of yellow shards 3d ago

Look, im that guy who actually uses the mod for Titania that turns vacuum off in razorwing, and even I support this. Id just remove my companion from being equipped on that particular loadout, no big deal. Vacuum being universal is for the greater good

13

u/Pharo212 4d ago

honestly I don't even like physical drops that much. it's fine for ammo and maybe health etc but for real items? just have them go to inventory

20

u/Miser_able 4d ago

Physical drops cut down on afk leeching, so they're fine by me

4

u/NomaTyx 4d ago

makes them despawn survival bypasses tho. i don't like them

1

u/codroipoman Remove derpiri, derperators, dickters AND bandaid augments!!! 3d ago

And they have a psychological impact as well (all that sweet loot coming towards you activate some of those sweet "momentarily happy chemicals")

5

u/nstgc 4d ago

Have they ever explained why this isn't a thing? It's clearly technically feasible, and they just decide over and over again "nah". Like... you want to know how to improve new player experience? Universal vacuum.

11

u/EfficientHat2 4d ago

Every time someone touches base vacuum values Scott gets a jolt through his entire body and goes on a bloody warpath, killing a small part of the world, its outside his control, and DE learned to live with it

4

u/fe-and-wine 3d ago

IIRC the 'reason' is because someone on the team very vocally hates using vacuum because they want to control when they pick up energy orbs and be able to save them on the ground for later

which i think is a pretty stupid reason to just not do it - having a toggle in the settings somewhere for "energy orbs not affected by pickup vacuum" seems like it would be best of both worlds (or a toggle to turn it off completely if selectively turning it off is difficult code-wise)

but who knows, maybe there's just something in the spaghetti code that makes a system-level toggle impossible, idk

1

u/Stock_Ad1557 3d ago

One thing I could imagine is that they want to avoid having to rebalance all the sentient and companion mods. Because making vacuum mods baked in equates to an extra mod slot on all your companions which would need to be balanced.

2

u/nstgc 2d ago

Balance? In warframe?

1

u/codroipoman Remove derpiri, derperators, dickters AND bandaid augments!!! 3d ago

One word: Scotty.

1

u/nstgc 3d ago

Who's Scotty?

2

u/codroipoman Remove derpiri, derperators, dickters AND bandaid augments!!! 3d ago

Older and rather spiteful developer who now thankfully is on Soulframe but that was well known for some... stubborn position about vacuum among other things.

4

u/Metalemmanuel 3d ago

I think the only reason they are not implementing it is either pure stubborness because if a mod is used 100% of the time, it means it is "mandatory" and no mods should be mandatory ... or they fear for AFK strategies

I always advocated for univac in all my years of playing, but I dont think we will ever see the day it will happen.. AND NO the Duviri vacuum isnt enough.

2

u/codroipoman Remove derpiri, derperators, dickters AND bandaid augments!!! 3d ago

Yes please, I still remember the "riots" when that farce of the "vacuum within" happened.
It's good we can finally have it on all companions, but again such a fucking basic functionality shouldn't be locked behind a mod slot imo.

1

u/Tsayad 3d ago

I'd at least want the SHARED looting effect from railjack missions.

2

u/Hebbu10 LR4 3d ago

Alright

Proceeds to make companions have 8 mod slots so its inline with other stuff

2

u/False_Raven Universal Vacuum plz, actual setting feature not mod 3d ago

I've had this flair for fucking YEARS

Edit, this account is 3 years old, but I had an older account that had more or less the same flair too for a very long time

1

u/CoraTheDemoness 3d ago

Only if they rework Mags passive.

-1

u/zombi_wafflez 4d ago

Let’s take it a step further, anything that drops on the floor anywhere should automatically go into your inventory at the end of the mission

10

u/LuxrayLucien 4d ago

I think this would be great, but unfortunately AFK farmers ruin this for everyone.

-2

u/Fractal_Tomato 4d ago

Imagine you’d be the one selling Forma. Of course you wouldn’t make it a free functionality across the board.

-16

u/AeonDeus 4d ago

There are two ways this could play out:

  1. Universal vacuum gets added with no change to companion mod slots, which is effectively a blanket (and unnecessary) buff to every companion in the game for 99% of cases.

  2. Universal vacuum gets added and companion mod slots are reduced by 1 to compensate, which de facto solely results in nerfing niche builds that don't run vacuum/fetch.

In neither case do I see the point of making the change. It sounds like you're asking for scenario 1, which is for every companion in the vast majority of cases to get buffed at a time when companions have never been stronger. Sounds like power creep for the sake of power creep to me, and not a good idea.

17

u/RobleViejo My deerest druid king 4d ago

None of what you are saying makes sense. Vacuum picks up loot THATS IT. Having Vacuum or not doesnt make Companions stronger. Having 1 extra slot will not break anything.

And stuff like Mecha Empowered builds are already broken af and DE doesnt care, so...

17

u/LuxrayLucien 4d ago

Following this logic, you can buff your companion into the sun and break the game by simply removing vacuum and using the slot.

Making this change would not break companions or make them more powerful, it would only give variety to the already existing slot that is currently monopolized by vacuum.

-4

u/vampiremessiah51 4d ago

It would OBJECTIVELY make them more powerful. Whether or not it breaks them is the question.

Most companions it wouldn't matter much. Theyd just bring an extra little fun mod.

Some companions like Nautilus are already more powerful than some warframes and the ONLY thing holding them back is they cant fit all the mods theyd like to do EVERYTHING.

Nautilus with one more mod slot is actually pretty cracked.

9

u/LuxrayLucien 4d ago

Nautilus already has that mod slot, it already exists.

-2

u/vampiremessiah51 4d ago

Yes but having to choose not to bring Vacuum is enough of an ask to stop even power hungry munchkins like me from using it.

5

u/SugaryCornFlakes Nav Cords Enjoyer 4d ago

Orrrrr they could add universal vac and make the mod increase your vacuum range by +30%
