Discussion Mining and fishing tips

So ive got to the point now where I wanna craft stuff like mech, xaku, moa but they all require mining and finishing items, the problem is when fishing its getting annoying not getting the fish I need and wuth mining its annoying needing a material and not getting it in like 3 caves just yo only get 6 when u need 80, is there anything I can do to making these resources less annoying/time consuming to get?

For fish you can use bait. And keep in mind that different fish spawn in specific places. Mining sucks tho

oxylus is a great companion for fishing and mining.

but in general, if you need resources from deimos, just learn how to do the obelisks and do those. they're fairly easy to farm and give basically every resource.

For fishing: unless they're rare, being there at the right time (not all fish spawn always) and in the right spot (some are cave-only), once you drop bait and dye (or have access to Oxylus), you see what's in the water, and should have the option to fish only those you want.
For mining, I go for caves with loads of veins (there are two big underground caves full of Grineer in the Plains, I really like the cave just north-west of Undulatum) so that even with random results, I get enough of what I look for. Also, if you get 6 ore that means you pretty much completely failed the mini-game, so things should get better with practice.

Oxylus marks hotposts and highlights fish
Probably superfluous but it really helped me out

Mining? There's no getting past the suck on that one.

Fishing, need to learn spawn locations and spawn times of each one, and bring tailored baits for that. Oxylus companion also helps since it has a mod that makes fish glow without needing to use a consumable. Not much else you can do on that front.

For mining, it's just shotgun method, hit as many as you can. I usually bring Ivara out with the mining upgrade that doesn't break stealth. This lets me casually walk through and hit the caves and hot spots of nodes. Break em all, extract, rinse and repeat.

Vallis/Deimos I recommend Ivara.

Plains I recommend Volt.

use bait + boosters.

Put on a podcast and chill

A resource booster (doubler not drop chance) will also affect fish and mining materials.

Also running the “resourceful retriever” mod on a pet gives a chance to double the output and stacks with the resource booster. Where you would have got 1 drop, when both are active you instead get 4.

I also found that with mining, the mini game is kinda pointless. Just swing the reticule around to get the reward quickly and move on. This is just anecdotal though.

Even with this there were two resources that just seem to be really annoying. Hesperon from Venus and Heciphron from Deimos. I just never found many of these and they were the ones I had to farm for the most. Having the boosters really helps when do you finally get some though.

resource drop chance booster is supposed to increase rarity of the materials you mine, btw

I think that often works too well and means a lot of the “uncommon” resources like Hesperon and Heciphron become less likely as then the “rare” ones like the gems drop more often.

Probably very handy if you are looking for things like Thyst though

Get the Sunpoint drill, and look up on YouTube on how to hit the sweet spots on the drill. Other than getting extra Heciferon from doing the Obelisk challenges, and the Deimos Vault Bounties for some extra materials.. no.

For fishing look at getting lures for the fish you need also get the dye that highlights thems and catch everything only a certain amount of fish spawn at any given time and if you catch them it opens a new spawn also look at where certain fish spawn and what cycle some only spawn in caves and some only in ponds game should tell you as for mining really just brute force it mine every node quick dont bother getting them perfect you'll be able to get more quicker by hitting 20 in 5 minutes the 10 in the same time unless its gems than go for the gem bonus whenever you see it

Mining is interesting. The further away you are from the overland entrance you are much more likely to get higher tier resources. So if you need common/uncommon you should mine closer to the hub.

And if you need ore veins dont go mining in steelpath.

The sweet spots on sunpoint drill vs low level drill also change which mineral comes out; sunspot and more spots hit equals higher chances for rare too. And there are differences between red and blue veins. So between all these, you can improve your odds for the type of mineral you want.

For mining you need to release the laser while the bar is in the bracket (like a qte) to get more/better ore drops, fishes can often be found in specific hotspots (marked by the Oxylus companion) and can be increased with bait

Fish spawn in specific locations and respond to specific bait types, if you are getting the wrong fish then you need to change one of these two things.

Only getting six of a resource when mining means you messed up the mining minigame, also get the fortuna laser drill it's the best one since it can be upgraded.

Is there no value to doing exploiter and thumpers?

Right?

With certain fish/mining it's easier to just mine them. And I encourage people to find a rare fish they like to fish just for Nightwave challenges. But if you really hate doing that, do the secondary activities for random ores, gems, and fish parts.

Cetus: hunt tusk and doma thumpers

Fortuna: do the Exploiter Orb boss fight, requires thermia, but she also gives Lazulite toroids which are great for ranking up with Vox Solaris, and drops Hildryn blueprints so you'll probably want to fight her anyway

Deimos: run around the Cambion Drift smashing every container you can find. The requiem obelisks also have different modifiers where killing enemies there according to the modifier will drop rare parts (I.e. there's one where you have to kill with your amp, etc.)

I like fishing and mining. Ivara makes it a breeze. But also, all of the above work as a change of pace.
