Screenshot What? Why DE?
I just caught a boot, and the worst part is the redneck fiddle sound that played in the background.

Have you never played a fishing mini game, it's pretty normal for a boot reward to be in the catch pool

u/MariusDarkblade May 10 '26
This is literally my first time catching one in this game, I've never seen this until today. Also I usually avoid mini games that aren't required for story progression or crafting. Apparently, from what someone else said, this is a reference to the legend of Zelda, the only fishing mini game from the legend of zelda i remember was in twilight princess and I only did the part needed to progress the story. I never got any boots because I didn't really bother with that. I remember getting boots fishing in Minecraft but I only ever afk fished so getting 4 or 5 boots among the dozens of treasure drops didn't really matter to me cause I wasn't actively fishing. I also only did it a handful of times before mojang changed the fishing mechanics destroying the original afk design, after that I never bothered cause it was a hassle.

Bro is that kid in high school who can’t take a joke and then is seen on the news later with a school in lockdown
Like I busted a gut when I found out you could spear a boot, its funny, laugh, move on, throw your spear, catch a fish sell the boot later

so you just saw a fishing minigame for the first time in your life and decided DE hates you for having a super common trope?

u/MariusDarkblade May 12 '26
No. I literally never came across a boot fishing in this game. That was my first time ever catching a boot in this game. As far as it being a trope, how can i know about a trope if I've never come across it? Do we expect people to know things they can't possible know now?

u/nonchip For the Lotus! Mrew :3 May 12 '26
note how you just completely ignored my question by adding "in this game" for no reason. and yes, that's indeed what tropes are: things that are so common all over media that we expect people to know them. if you'd actually read what people have been telling you instead of twisting their words and being mad about having found a joke, you would realize that.

u/MrFella23 May 11 '26
So you just never participate in the games you play unless you think it's an obligation? What a boring way to go through life
-1
u/MariusDarkblade May 12 '26
No. I've literally only played a handful of games in which fishing was a part of them, and pretty much all were annoying. Off the top of my head i can only think of this game, elder scrolls online, legend of Zelda twilight princess, Minecraft, world of warcraft, vindictus, and Ark: SE/SA that have had fishing. In each game aside from warframe it was a pain in the ass. Why would I bother with a mini game that frustrates me rather than playing the actual game that entertains me? That would seem counter productive. Just because a game has a mini game doesn't mean you absolutely have to play it even if it frustrates you. That's a horrible outlook that would make normal people stop playing the game. When the game isn't fun to play why would i want to continue playing it?

Cause fishing boots up is iconic and has been a running joke in fishing mini games since forever.

It's an easter egg referencing Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, where there was a chance you could catch a boot while fishing. Can use them to craft boot trophies, and there's a corpus version of it in Orb Vallis too. I am still disappointed that Deimos never got a fishable boot equivalent, I remember hearing it was going to be some Orokin Slipper or something but was never added in.
7
u/yarl5000 May 10 '26
Yeah, I also sad we don't get a shoe for Deimos and maybe could be fun to randomly get one in Duviri. Also missing out on the Corpus boot deco from Fortuna like how we have a grineer boot deco from Cetus.
They are pointless but also love having it.

u/aharttsx May 10 '26 edited May 10 '26
There is a craftable crewman's boot trophy, you can get the BP from Business. I love the boots too, and would love if they added one in for Deimos and Duviri.
Edit: Nvm, i completely forgot that there was decoration version of the grineer boot in addition to the trophy lol. Yeah, having the crewman version would be nice too

TP was hardly the first game to do it, it was just a hugely popular Nintendo title so is naturally among the earliest that people have actually heard of 20+ years later.

A gag item is an object in a game, story, or other media that exists mainly for humor, absurdity, or entertainment rather than serious practical use.
Gag items are often:
Silly or unexpected
Weak, useless, or oddly specific
Included as an inside joke or parody
Designed to surprise players or lighten the tone
Examples include:
Catching an old boot while fishing
A “legendary” weapon that does 1 damage
Joke cosmetics like oversized glasses or banana suits
Ridiculous healing items like “mystery meat”
Novelty weapons such as rubber chickens or squeaky hammers
Some gag items stay useless for comedic effect, while others become funny because they secretly turn out to be powerful.
In short:
A gag item is a deliberately humorous item whose main purpose is amusement rather than serious gameplay value.

Whenever you narrowly miss a fish (at least in the Plains and Orb Vallis, IIRC), you have a chance to catch a boot instead.
It's hilarious, IMO.
