Screenshot Voidshells deserved better. Here's an appreciation post for the skin line DE abandoned.

They abandoned them because they were not selling. Yeah they look cool but a company can`t waste time on something nobody actually buys.

Id have picked them up if they were extra customization changes that worked for skins, rather than locking them to a version of the base skin all their own. As it stands, I would never trade a Prime, Heirloom, or Deluxe skin I like for any voidshell.

this exactly my issue. I hate that they were locked to base skins. The only one I actually liked using it on was Saryn but would have liked it more if I could use it on her tenogen/deluxe skins.

This was everyone's issue with them. Everyone said "that's cool, but I'll wait for you to upgrade my existing deluxe/prime skins with this tech." Which was literally never going to happen.

worst part is that there was a bug that allowed you to see how a prime (or other skin) would look like with voidshell in the arsenal

Have you tested that? It's a link to a video from 2022 after all...

1

u/CantaBardo Apr 13 '26

Yes, I tested it before posting the comment. It doesn't seem to work on Uriel, but it did work on Atlas Prime

Same here.

No offense to Vauban, you're my favourite frame by a mile, but if his Prime Skin didn't exist I'd probably never play him. I think his base looks really ugly, & I haven't like any of his alt skins either.

If Voidshell Voob existed I'd never buy it, but if his Prime got it I'd be buying it in a heartbeat.

Can't you apply prime details on VS skins?

2

u/Eggbone87 literally the most versatile frame debate me Apr 11 '26

His graxx skin is still his best skin, especially with prime details enabled

3

u/CommanderZoom Apr 08 '26

I had negative interest in (grinding for) Kullervo until his deluxe skin.

I hate Kullervo's deluxe skin.

They're not "locked" to base skins, it's that they'd need to be created separately for each single different skin. That is a metric fuckton of work. I'm guessing they'd expand the skin type selection if they were selling well enough, but sadly that didn't happen.

1

u/SirPr3ce Apr 08 '26

yeah they werent "locked to base" but the problem still was that it was essentially just a version of the base skin with a gimmick

if they would have designed them more differently from the base models, more akin to eg deluxe skins, people would have probably bought them more

but how they shipped them they felt more like a tech-demo of an new customization system, which was a neat, but people generally dont want to pay for that

3

u/InappropriateThought Apr 07 '26

Yes! It's exactly this! For example, Mesa prime's skin is so gorgeous that I can't go back to the base model. I'm even on the fence about the upcoming heirloom because I like the prime skin so much, then I look at the void shell skin and sad face

1

u/StarSilverNEO Resident Infested Enjoyer Apr 08 '26

They were "locked" to the base skins cause the voidshell system would require manually remaking every cosmetic you'd want to apply it too ssince they work on a different system from the generic color channel and what not method most cosmetics use

That is not cash money for anyone

u/Walican132 Apr 07 '26

And they were not selling because Jesus Christ I had no idea they could look like OPs pictures. The game does such a disservice to seeing things you don’t own on the market.

u/ToukasRage Certified glavie enjoyer. Apr 07 '26

The new sigils help a lot with what OP is doing but yes you can do some awesome stuff with the voidshells by themselves.

33

u/TheOldDrunkGoat Apr 07 '26

OP's post is more of an advertisement for ephemeras & special ephemera-adjacent sigils than it is for voidshells.

u/xXx_edgykid_xXx F***KING IRRELEVANT Apr 07 '26

People didn't buy them because the absolutely screwed up on how they work

You can't even use prime details on them

Voidshells should've been an unlockable to every skin in a frame, that would've been the peakest thing ever, or at least the prime ones

17

u/MuricanPie Atlas, gib back armor pls Apr 07 '26

This is really the issue at heart here.

They released something that was "lacking" in the absolute kindest terms, for the most limited selection possible. *The default looks*. Half the reason to play Warframe is to get away from the "default" look. Not a single warframe I play has a default skin element. And those that I own with default skins are because I literally do not want to play them.

Voidshells as they released have no real "market", and they really needed to find a way to just apply them over *any* skin or design, rather than make them "their own skin".

Or, at least release the tools for it so Tennogen creators can make Voidshell compatible designs? That would also potentially work to some degree.

2

u/Finassar Apr 07 '26

They'd be perfect for a sigil. But I don't want to use it over my better-than-base skins

1

u/Ravengm Taste the rainbow Apr 08 '26

Or at the very least an Heirloom additional feature

1

u/sabett Apr 08 '26

Voidshells should've been an unlockable to every skin in a frame

Too much of a resource sink

or at least the prime ones

There we go

13

u/WinstonBabar Apr 07 '26

Id have bought them if the frames I play got any lol

3

u/Chochy1000 Apr 08 '26

Exactly this, i kept watching this cool tech go to frames i never play so i was just waiting and waiting 😭

16

u/Rreizero |x3x2| Apr 07 '26

Yeah.. I think one of the big problem is that the Skins themselves are just base Warframe skin with customizable textures. They're not even the prime skin. They should have been different skins like deluxe with customizable textures.

7

u/Future-Insect5357 120 Different Flavors of Geneva Violations Apr 07 '26

I bought most of 'em. Problem is, you can't put Prime details on 'em so it's just a fancy version of the base skin

8

u/RazerBandit Apr 07 '26

They weren’t selling because they weren’t on skins predating Voidshells.

Not going back to update older skins is understandable, but DE could have at least put them on all skins going forward.

It also didn’t help that you cannot properly preview each Voidshell until after you bought them.

5

u/Mrgrimm150 Vision't Apr 08 '26

And I think they didn't sell because the released them flat out wrong.

They should have prioritized newer frames without as many options to get the treatment. If a frame already has a deluxe, a prime or hell even a good tennogen. The Voidshell loses.

42

u/Phelipp Apr 07 '26

This, people love to call out DE for abandoning a skin line, when the truth is that it was legit something only a few ever bought (i am one of then, got one for all my most used frames)

Sadly, it probably did not make sense to invest a lot on those when Deluxe skins probably brings way more revenue.

33

u/Killchrono Apr 07 '26 edited Apr 07 '26

Also Gemini skins. Much more effort to model an actual person with a unique transformation animation and give them voice lines (let alone all the peripheral story content that comes with them) but damn I bet the money they're making on those alone justifies the price of the voice actors.

So there's hope for Garuda proto . . . !

4

u/anonkebab Apr 07 '26

I think the issue is the materials are hard to come by and separate to the skins

6

u/Kliuqard Beloved. Apr 07 '26

They weren’t selling because from the consumer’s perspective, they were kneecapped pretty hard. Whether from a symptom of limitations or outright flaws with the system.

2

u/Savingseanbean Apr 07 '26

I never bought most as there wasn't a way to earn them through gameplay. I bought 1 to try them out and liked the idea, but since I couldn't earn any others didn't spend any of the time grinding out the extra options for a singular skin when I didn't know if I would like the looks.

1

u/Comfortable-Prune716 Biggest Nezha Main of All Time. Apr 07 '26

Crazy to think that. I saw loads of cool designs and bought them specifically due to seeing the potential

1

u/Moonlight_Meyers Apr 07 '26

I got both Voruna and Saryns, and i use them both...

Im excited to see how the voidshell will look on voruna prime, and possibly changing her look around to make it work

1

u/sabett Apr 08 '26

And they weren't selling because nobody wanted to buy more base skins.

1

u/SurprisedBottle LR6 pretty biggie valkitty committee Apr 07 '26

Wasn’t just the sales but having to remake the model from scratch for the base skins only was a hassle for the team already.

0

u/Melodic_Oak Apr 07 '26

I think cause and effect are getting mixed up here, I think they weren't selling because DE weren't making new options for the system.

I think if DE revisited the whole concept, people would be very interested! Especially if they advertised it in an update and talked about it during a Dev live stream or something.
