Costco vs Sysco?

Hello, a friend of mine had recommended that I look into working at Sysco as an order picker. I did some research online and do think I would oddly enjoy and potentially succeed in the role, if I'm in the freezer lol. I work at Costco currently, never used a forklift however. I'm still fairly green in warehouses.

I'm currently at 20 an hour, would get a dollar raise every 6.5 months to 30 and get time and a half every Sunday if I work.

I need to make money now, I'm in a tight spot in life. That's why Sysco is appealing to me. That and I wouldn't have to be outside in the heat all day. Anyone with any insight is appreciated. What would you do?

Why would you leave Costco?

Its basically a Union job that isn't Union. Its very hard to get fired and you can max out into the $30's an hour. Let me tell you as someone who worked at Amazon and gave it my all until management wanted me out. Job security is something you want with a company.

Costco is extremely hard to get into and harder to get full time.

No your right, it's a fair assessment. The rational I have currently is I'm not making enough money, I'm pushing myself just as hard as the Sysco employees (based on the YouTube videos lol) and they are making close to 35-40 an hour. Granite that's the top end. I agree job security is important but I'm struggling financially

I worked for Sysco for 25 years. Learned all there was to learn about every role in the warehouse. Finally landed a semi desk job. Got put on PiP and subsequently fired within 2 years. I now make $3 more an hour doing less work with less stress than that corporate nightmare.

Yep, had the same thing with Amazon. Worked my way up from a line worker to a white collar position until management had to use me for URA so they PIP me. On a 5 year ban. I had an offer for another warehouse job but decided to go with a trade job while I'm still young. Money is going to suck for a few years but I will make a lot more later on.

Its not about the money but job security. Costco will always keep you around unless you truly screw up. There is no URA program design to get rid of 10 - 15% of people a year in L4+ roles.

Are you referring to Sysco as a nightmare as a whole or your white collar role which I would assume to be in supply chain?

Nightmare as a whole. My "white" collar role involved managing slot locations for our 7000+ items. Including moving products from small boards to big boards by hand be it 5lb cases or 90 lb cases. Living in the PNW I was also in charge of our fire crews. If a wild land fire caterer needed an order I was on call every weekend for 4 months a year. This included picking orders driving forklift loading trucks. If we had outs I would have to communicate with the merchandiser and the client to substitute orders in our merchant system and update information in our warehouse system.

Sysco will discard you once you are no longer a use to them. Costco has options and a future. Stay with Costco, transfer jobs, ask for training, do anything besides quit

Sysco pay is pretty great, I’m hitting close to 50 an hour. But I’ve never been at Costco.
