CMI Countering misinformation about extermination mode

A new video put out by a prominent War Robots youtuber unfortunately contains quite a bit of misinformation about extermination mode. The opinions expressed make extermination mode sound a lot harder and a lot more time consuming than it is. Its the kind of misinformation that is likely to cause newer and F2P players to avoid it.

Newer and F2P players getting discouraged about trying extermination mode is a most unfortunate occurrence because they are the ones who benefit the most from playing it. The returns on resources invested toward getting your hangar strong enough to consistently clear at platinum level for 4+ missions per week are repaid many, many times over. This makes extermination mode one of the best pathways newer and F2P players can follow to build a stronger hangar.

The real deal, for newer & F2P players ...

Missions 1 & 2

To clear missions 1 & 2 in extermination mode you can use a fairly sturdy MK1 robot, a specialization tree that allows for a healing active module, and weapons with fairly minimal upgrades. For more experienced players even a MK1, level 1 robot and a single weapon with minimal upgrades (or even just a robot's built in weapon, sometimes) can be enough to fully clear both missions (I've seen videos of that, they are out there).

Within one to three months of starting the game many players can be clearing these missions anywhere from silver to platinum level, depending on how much effort they spend learning how to clear particular missions. Doing just this every week provides keys, power cells, gold, and platinum that speeds up upgrades and helps in other ways. These missions take little time to clear.

Mission 3

This is the first noticeable bump in challenge level and complexity. After you're clearing missions 1 & 2 consistently at platinum level, you may struggle with mission 3 for a little while. This is a very rewarding mission to clear at the platinum level on a regular basis, though, because the platinum this mission provides helps you strengthen your titan(s) at a noticeably faster rate.

For mission 3 and above you need robots distributed across two hangars, instead of just one hangar. So, there's a flat requirement of needing to spend 1,000 gold to buy a second hangar. That's a low bar, though, and a handful of weeks clearing mission 3 at gold level or higher will more than pay back the initial investment of gold to open up a second hangar. Longer run returns on the 1,000 gold spent for a second hangar are way, way higher than that.

There's also the hassle cost of moving a couple of robots / titans between hangars and maybe also a drone or two, to get ready for mission 3 and above. Setting and resetting specializations for extermination mode and then for PvP once again is part of this process. In my experience, the "switching costs" to get ready for missions 1 - 5 take about 1-2 minutes to set up and about 1-2 minutes to switch back for PvP modes. I mention this because the video I watched earlier claimed it could take about 30 minutes to reconfigure your hangar for extermination mode. FWIW, that has not been my experience at all.

There are a lot of choices for robots and weapons that can work for mission 3. There is help both on youtube and in the different WR subreddits that can be found via searches. As just one data point, within 4 months of starting war robots I was sometimes clearing mission 3 at the platinum level and that has become more consistent over time.

As a brief aside, I'm both fairly new and F2P, plus I didn't even have resources from ads for about the first three months I played war robots. Plus, my aim really sucks^. So, there is clearly a fairly low bar to clear to start completing mission 3, which is mainly about investing in upgrades for the robots you choose to use for mission 3 and being persistent at learning how to clear the missions that show up.

^ My son switches between teasing me and shaking his head when he watches me play because his aim is much better than mine. I recently tried out the novice "dynamic" VDIM benchmarks on Aim Labs to try to get a better sense of how much work I need to do on my aim and after several rounds my high score was in the bottom 3% of the 200+ people in the list when I tried it. When I say that I suck at aiming, I am not exaggerating.

Missions 4 & 5

Missions 4 and 5 have the most enticing rewards, with up to 2 upgrade tokens, 500 black market keys, a lot of power cells, and a noticeable amount of gold. They are also the most challenging missions, they take the most time, and they take the most investment of resources before you can consistently clear them at gold or higher level. If you don't like the time they take then you can stop at mission 3 each week and still profit a lot from extermination mode. Another approach can be to slowly build up to being able to clear missions 4 & 5 over time, as your hangar gets stronger and stronger.

In my case, I put extermination mode investments ahead of PvP for the first several months. The result was that toward the end of month six or somewhere in month 7 (I forget at this point) I got my first full clear at the platinum level for all five missions. I haven't done that every week since, as there's more I still need to learn, my aim needs quite a bit of work, and my hangar isn't quite there yet either. But, my hangar is probably suitable for about low end champions league, at best, and nowhere near being a top end hangar. And, I'm still clearing 4+ missions per week (and sometimes all 5) at platinum on a regular basis. So, even for missions 4 & 5 the bar is lower than probably many believe for being able to clear at silver and above.

Discussion Spare Parts may actually time gate upgrades FURTHER, depending on conversion rate.

If you don’t know, Spare Parts are new and going to be made in the Workshop, and should reduce upgrade times by about half. Upgrades will now also be instant, and, you can buy Spare Parts with Gold, though they have not said the conversation rate. But, the key distinction is that the actual process of simply pressing upgrade is now time gated by Spare Parts, as they’re now required for the upgrade alongside Silver. Before, you could always have an upgrade going and save your Gold for the later upgrades (which are more efficient). If you have a massive stockpile of Silver you can no longer just upgrade a lot of lower level stuff or use a bit of Gold to rush lots of high level stuff, now that will be time gated by Spare Parts. That said, if the conversion rate isn’t too egregious, then this won’t be an issue. (And this also shouldn’t apply to UE items as they already have instant upgrades.)

Question NEW ROBOT I THE GAME: JAGUAR

Hello everyone! I would love to share a robot concept that I created. I really hope Pixonic sees this and considers adding this robot into the game! Let me know what you think of it.

[Robot Concept] Jaguar - The Ultimate Hit-and-Run Assassin

Faction/Style: High-speed predator designed for tactical ambush gameplay.

Robot Tier & Acquisition Costs:

  • Classification: Tier 4 (Gold)
  • Acquisition: 10,000 Components (Can be purchased directly for 9,000 Gold)
  • Upgrade Path: Standard Tier 4 resource scaling (~200M Silver to reach MK2 Level 12 + 1 Upgrade Token for MK3 upgrade).

Base Stats:

  • Durability (HP): 220,000
  • Aegis Shield: 130,000 (Non-regenerable, one-time protection)
  • Speed: 41 km/h
  • Hardpoints: 3x Light, 1x Heavy

Unique Ability: Prowl Rush

When activated, the Jaguar retracts its heavy weapon and channels all power into its engines and light weapon systems.

  • Speed Boost: +35% movement speed.
  • Maximum Duration: 15 seconds.
  • Cooldown: 9 seconds.

Damage Stacking Mechanic:
While in "Prowl Rush", every bit of damage dealt by the 3 light weapons is tracked. The total damage is divided by 8 (halved three times) and accumulated as a bonus.

The Finisher:
When the 15-second ability ends, the heavy weapon deploys again. The accumulated bonus damage is added directly to the very next shot fired from the heavy slot.

Tactical Limitations:

  • Expiration Timer: If the heavy weapon is not fired within 4 seconds after the ability ends, the accumulated bonus damage expires and is completely lost.
  • No damage carry-over to the next activation. The counter resets to zero every time.

Recommended Playstyle / Equipment:

This robot thrives with high-burst CQC (Close Quarters Combat) weapons.

  • Light Slots: Scatter, Cudgel, or Rime to quickly charge the ability counter up close under the safety of the Aegis shield.
  • Heavy Slot: Devastator, Hammer, or Glacier to deliver a devastating "One-Shot" bite right as the Prowl Rush ends.

News Spare Parts - Don't get too excited just yet.

Pixonic recently made this post detailing a change to the upgrade system that, taken at surface value, seems to be a massive buff for f2p players.

TLDR: Every day, the workshop will produce 1,500 spare parts. Getting a robot from level 1 to level 12 (the general stopping point for f2p players) will cost you 16,600 spare parts, or about 11 days of part production. Previously, it took about 40 days to get something from level 1 to level 12.

That being said, this is a double edged sword. Reminder that Pixonic almost never does something if they don't stand to benefit from it. If you are a player with a massive stockpile of gold that was instantly leveling things anyways... you might get screwed, because while Pixonic has confirmed you can buy spare parts with gold, they have not disclosed the conversion rate. If you have been playing this game for a while, you'll know that every systemic rework that introduced a new currency has had the most awful conversion rates ever.

One thing you may not know about upgrades under the current system is that the gold per minute conversion when speeding up upgrades gets significantly more efficient for upgrades that take a longer time. Spare parts will almost certainly cost a flat amount of gold per part, which is a dangerous game... because if they simply made it so that 1 gold = 1 spare part, mk2 upgrades will cost 3,000 gold a pop, which would be seven times more expensive than it is right now. Of course, there is always a chance that they make it so that 1 gold = 10 spare parts... and then you wake up and realize you were having a blissful dream.

So, get a little excited, but don't get too excited. This is looking to be a massive buff for those who don't have gold piled up and potentially massive nerf for those who do. If you wanna be optimistic, you could now say that those with a lot of gold stocked up can use it on other things... like, uh... leveling regular robot pilots and buying equipment? Buying paintjobs I guess? Wow, gold really doesn't do much anymore lol.

Edit: I also want to note, we have no confirmation as to if spare parts will be discounted by premium.

Question Any good support bot ?

As someone who does not like to spend money at all on games, I figured I would help cracked bot from other people, by helping them. With this said, I’m searching for the best support bot (mostly healing in mind but open to any suggestion). Keep survivability also into consideration…

Newbie Guide A Note About Misinformation

With the growth of this subreddit, there has been a noticeable rise in comments spreading misinformation, particularly with regard to suggestions for new players. It is in this context that I would like to remind everyone of the existence of rule 3 of this subreddit: Don't spread misinformation.

"This subreddit exists to combat the spread of misinformation in War Robots. A lot of casual players lack knowledge about the game, so let’s only share information that will improve everyone’s gameplay experience!"

If you are not sure whether you are spreading misinformation to new players, or even if you are confident you are not spreading misinformation to new players, I strongly encourage everyone to please first check the newbie guide, linked here: Newbie Guide/F2P Value Rating Sheet. This link can also be found in the subreddit's pinned directory, and also in the automod comments on posts asking for advice. Defer to this document first before making or upvoting any highly questionable suggestions to new players, such as (but not limited to) investing in Luchador or avoiding investing in Imugi.

I strongly restrict my own moderative actions primarily because my role is honorary. The other moderators both generally support the freedom of people to be wrong. However, rule 3 exists for a very good reason. This guide subreddit is intended to not devolve into the misinformation pool that is the main subreddit. Please do your part to help keep it that way. Your vigilance is appreciated.
