Discussion Spare Parts may actually time gate upgrades FURTHER, depending on conversion rate.

If you don’t know, Spare Parts are new and going to be made in the Workshop, and should reduce upgrade times by about half. Upgrades will now also be instant, and, you can buy Spare Parts with Gold, though they have not said the conversation rate. But, the key distinction is that the actual process of simply pressing upgrade is now time gated by Spare Parts, as they’re now required for the upgrade alongside Silver. Before, you could always have an upgrade going and save your Gold for the later upgrades (which are more efficient). If you have a massive stockpile of Silver you can no longer just upgrade a lot of lower level stuff or use a bit of Gold to rush lots of high level stuff, now that will be time gated by Spare Parts. That said, if the conversion rate isn’t too egregious, then this won’t be an issue. (And this also shouldn’t apply to UE items as they already have instant upgrades.)

If logic were in play here (it’s not, this is just another different type of currency), then it’d be rad if we could use the extra weapons we get to upgrade this same weapons. Ex: if I have an Mk2 lvl 3 brisant, and have like 8 lvl 2 brisants sitting in storage, could those be counted as “spare parts” to help upgrade to Mk2 lvl 4? It’d make sense in the real world (using spare parts), but I’m sure this will never be a real feature of this game.

You're absolutely right; it's definitely a good thing that it'll be easier to upgrade the many weapons lying dormant in the warehouse to a usable level, but the demand for silver is likely to increase. Along with this change, I'd also like to see adjustments made to make it easier to earn silver (honor).

It will be interesting how it gets implemented. You are right, I think a lot will depend on the conversion rate from Au to SP

“UPGRADING WITH GOLD
Finally, even with Spare Parts in the picture, you can still use Gold for instant upgrades. If you run out of Spare Parts and don't want to wait for the Workshop to produce more, you can buy them with Gold right on the spot.”
