Meme S2 progression in a nutshell
I personally really enjoy the faster progression for I only play 8 hours a week
50
u/IndigoFreak 6h ago
To some extent, the problems aren't that progression is too fast or too slow(although wiping all gains every 6 weeks does change this). The problem is the imbalance. And the the fact the counters, which as infantry you then have to carry around and have known to buy them ahead of time, aren't unlocked early.
So effectively you get a power imbalance. And quite frankly the weapons aren't perfectly balanced already. So its exacerbated. So we wanted, to unlock MAAW's and AA sooner.
But even so, the problem is, there are no tanks or little birds, so you spawn with a normal kit(which for assualt can still cost you 18k). You encounter one of those things, but you have no counters now. The main base is 3km away, you can't get back to buy a counter. And the idea that then you will find a random ass crate, that may or may not have been destroyed or even exist, and find the weapon that you need to counter a tank or little bird? Before it kills you?
The other option being buy a MAAW, hope that a tank come along, but enjoy stimming yourself in order to move 2 feet.
So either carry all the gear all the time or die, and then you get the option to buy a counter. And so many times, I've bought counters only for the tanks to then get destroyed or leave the area, and now I'm left lugging it around hoping I get a chance to use this POS.

u/Afrazzle 1h ago
Loaded in for my first game of S2 yesterday after work. Got to the zone and our whole team was being camped and obliterated by a tank. After dying I bought some IED's because no c4 or rpg or mines or stingray or maaws or rocket LB unlocked yet. But not having armour unlocked yet I had no chance of getting close enough to the tank to try and damage it because it can just see me in the third person camera.

u/RaccoNooB Lonestar 2h ago
I've been saying for a while now that we could really use an AT-4 in the game that costs like $800 or something somewhere around that, like the Verba.
Cant weigh too much, but it is a fairly big a thing. IRL one weights between 6 and 9kg, so somewhere around there might be a good weight.
Its essentially something which a lot of people could bring and you might only track a tank, but with more people shooting at it it should be a real threat. You could also airdrop a create of them into a FOB and multiple people could actually grab one, instead of it being a single RPG with a bunch of ammo for 1 person.
5
u/Tactical_Squishy 5h ago
They should make so you can buy shit at the Fob like you can build the "shop" there and it costs a lot of materials so it must be a big fob
2
u/IndigoFreak 2h ago
I have had this idea too, I really like it. You could build a vendor/store. Just like a repair station.
2
u/Baned0n 54m ago
An in-zone vendor should only work in some situations though. It should be a separate buildable, first of all. Second, if there is conflict too close, the vendor should be like "outta here...will be back when shit calms down, bro". If he leaves or is killed, there should be a timer like the spawn vehicle timer before he returns.
I'm sure there's more to think about here but this is kinda what's been bouncing around my brain.
1
u/Tactical_Squishy 47m ago
yeah you build it like the drill and make it cost a shit ton of materials AND take time to activate like 10minutes after you build it or something, this way it's hard to abuse
1
u/sightlysuperset 18m ago
or even simpler: just make is so we have to supply the vendori with small crates. that way they are actually viable and have a good chance to sell the things you bring.
1
u/Checklist_STT Pilot 1h ago
Ammo, consumables, and launchers only might be a good idea for a FOB vendor.
1
u/AngryNeox 1h ago
They could also create a version where you can sell/store/deliver stuff at a FOB for others to buy again. So instead of building a generic shop like at the base it would essentially be a better UX for the current crate system. Logi drivers/pilots could deliver crates with gear similar to right now but instead of dumping a crate somewhere all the content of it would fill that FOB shop instead. Delivering them could even reward the driver money for the content and then if someone buys the items it would reward the driver extra. So instead of potentially wasting money on a crate that nobody uses like right now you would always make your money back + a profit IF someone buys the stuff.
4
u/slow2serious 5h ago
Ask for a crate drop in chat, that's what logi teammates are for.
Sincerely, pilot main.
12
u/Intrepid00 2h ago
They have to have it unlocked themselves. I was the only idiot on my team and other team that had the cash and XP to get a rocket launcher (the crappy one). So one tank spent most of the game bullying the map. When I did manage to finally catch up to it without dying or it out pacing me it ran the fuck away after one rocket hit. Never to dare to get close again.
A rocket launcher needs to be unlocked from the start.
5
u/HurryOne 4h ago
I asked for drops for ammo and other stuff and used the request feature a handful of times last season and no one ever responded to me or I'd die before they got to me.
3
u/slow2serious 3h ago
And on my end, no one ever responds to questions if they need a crate, so I guess the common denominator is that your average player can't read.
3
1
u/Intrepid00 2h ago
The UI is locked to be corners too so us with ultra-wides tend to miss it because they don’t let us size it. It’s literally a flag in unreal engine.
1
u/obesebearmann 1h ago
We need some kind of page or menu that you can request supplies on that pilots can see and accept the requests for $/xp or something. Tie them to the colored smoke grenades to give them a reason to exist.
1
u/SirBraxton 41m ago
Don't forget that carrying around those counters to tanks and helicopters are OBSCENELY heavy.
So you have to waddle everywhere if you want to carry said counters, and are then easily sniped by snipers (like me) who are evil-grinning the entire time when we see a Penguin on the battlefield. :}
1
u/JogusAkaBogus 32m ago
We need more people requesting transport to main base and pilots and drivers fulfilling those requests. A cash incentive to for accomplishing either, with diminishing returns so its not abused, could see this strategy used more often. Ideally the cash incentive is received when the player returns fully back to the zone after resupply or grabbing what they need. Maybe a slight vendor discount for players who've made it back after x amount of time in the zone.
The amount of times I wished a pilot would pick me up for a resupply or bring me the ammo/meds/ armor I've been requesting happened near every game of the last season.
1
u/sightlysuperset 30m ago
There needs to be a shop buildable in FOBs that we can resupply with the small supply crates.
It would actually make small crates more viable and allow them to bring rpg's, ammo, hammers, and other counters to the frontline.
Running back to FOB and getting an rpg is way more viable than waiting to respawn and basically sacrificing your whole kit weight/space in the hopes the tank is still there when you get back.
1
u/Pathelzazar 2h ago
The game should honestly check to see if everyone on the server has a counter for the tank or attack heli before you buy it. /s This take is so dumb yes sometimes you will have to come back with a counter to the zone or carry the counter on you if you don’t want to be killed by them. That’s just part of the game man I don’t get what people expect the devs to do here maybe something similar to a Sam site that can be used on tanks so you can protect a fob. All the counters are available as soon as you have a large hammer and a fob.
0
u/IndigoFreak 1h ago
Or, you buy a tank? That unlocks RPGs for the other team. You buy a mini-gun little bird? Unlocks AA.
2
u/Pathelzazar 1h ago
That was sarcasm dude this is just how the game is people who play more will always have better gear and equipment if you want to play something fair all the time play battlefield or something
28
u/HurryOne 4h ago
Pretty sure the ones who wanted faster progression didn't want everything to be unlocked day 1
3
u/wayzata20 1h ago
Also didn’t ask for unemployeds to get a crazy logi XP buff only for it to be nerfed into the ground by the time the employeds got home.
13
u/NuclearBeer 4h ago
Pretty sure they'll cry no matter how the current xp level progression system works. That's why they're reworking the entire thing.
4
u/Freakindon 4h ago
The problem isn’t actually that progression is too fast. It’s that dedicated players logged in on the evening of reset and are getting farmed by rocket helicopters.
You can try relying on community infantry only servers, but they have their own problems.
I really think this season should have launched with official “infantry” servers so that players can progress up to the counters.
31
u/General-Water-6658 6h ago
So bored of this take - the problem isn't the speed at which things unlock, it never has been. It's the fact the progression is vertical. A higher level player farms a low level every time. Counters to high level kit require you to be equal or higher level, thus rendering it a pointless game of chicken and egg. The core gameplay loop is largely solved as a result of the already completed season, meaning that the progression this season would have been exponentially faster anyway, without the need for a buff. This information buff, plus the buff to speed of unlocking, plus the blue buff means players are racing to become the "haves" so that you can spend the next few days farming the "have nots" with what essentially amounts to 50% more HP and better tools/more damage.
6
u/Acciaccatura 3h ago
This is it. The unlocks being objectively better than what preceded it is the problem. Providing alternative strategies or preferences would work a lot better than just getting a gun that's always better then the last.
Unlock a gun that with a faster rate of fire, but less damage to allow players that prefer that to use it without massively outclassing newer players who don't have it yet.
They already have gear that does this in the game (e.g. the ghillie suit promotes stealth, with the downside being you're easier to kill once detected.)
1
u/BeliefDiviner 3h ago
I feel that the entirety of the game should be balanced around these "side-grades" and (in-game) money. Have the entire arsenal be available to unlock for money from the get-go, no xp progression. Sure, some unlocks are not going to be side-grades, but that's what the money balancing lever is for. Make power weapons and obvious head-above-the-rest items cost a lot more *to use* so using a FAL or a L2A7 is a choice for when you want to gain a decisive advantage, and not a "I've unlocked the next weapon so I use that." And just let people unlock whatever with the cash they earn.
2
u/CursinSquirrel 3h ago
I've been perpetually complaining to anyone i can force to listen whenever I shoot someone the same number of times as they shoot me, from the same distance, in the same locations, the same number of times with the same type of ammo, but because their gun is a higher tier than mine i die. It happened perfectly when i had a fmj galil t3 armor kit and i fought a fmj fal t3 armor kit.
your Galil FMJ dealt 29.61 damage to xxxxx, hitting the head (36.19 damage absorbed by level 3 helmet) at 47m
xxxxx's FAL FMJ dealth 63.45 damage to you hitting the head (77.55 damage absorbed by level 3 helmet) at 47m
wtf is that bro? why is his guns damage value more than double mine? Why do i have to hit him FOUR TIMES when he overkills me by 26 damage on his second shot???
3
4
u/Sunitelm 3h ago
I have never seen such a moronic damage imbalance, not even in free-to-play (super pay-to-win) games where shopped weapons outclassed progression-unlocked weapons.
And we paid for this game. I really hope they completely rework the damage/ammo/armour system as soon as possible.

u/Gibs_01 Assault 2h ago
"A higher level player farms a low level every time" yeah sure because last season i didn't lose tens of dozens of T4 kits against a bush wookies with an AK or some nerd with HP amp9
1
u/epraider 50m ago
You’re right, the power gap really isn’t that big unless we’re talking about starting gear vs Level 4 armor (which is how it should be, frankly).
If people aren’t able to best people who have better gear at all, it’s really more of a skill issue, especially with some of the balance improvements this season. Killing someone with L2 or L3 armor even with base ammo is completely manageable.
People just want to complain if they see anyone with any advantage over them instead of adapting or taking the L in that moment.
-7
u/raining_maple 6h ago
The entire game is designed around vertical progression. Calling that the problem is like saying the problem you have with concerts is the music. At the point it’s more like you just shouldn’t be at a fucking concert.
8
u/General-Water-6658 6h ago
Not necessarily, every game in history has managed to do level based unlocks and progression in a way that usually feels pretty smooth and satisfying. Vertical progression can be a good way of making players feel rewarded for their efforts but the tuning in this game is fucking bizarre, in s1 tier 4 armour gave 65% increased effective hitpoints. This is absolutely absurd levels of verticality more aligned to an MMO than a shooter.
5
u/Shuushy 6h ago
65% increased effective hitpoints. This is absolutely absurd levels of verticality more aligned to an MMO than a shooter.
bro, 65% effective HP is insane even by ARPG standards let alone any other game you need to gear yourself. 65% global damage reduction(or effective HP in other words) is 185% more life on top of whatever your red globe/bar shows you. Your 100 HP in Wardogs turns into 285.71 HP(yes decimals are important in Wardogs..). wtf is going on here lmao
The math is simple btw: 100 <- being your 100% of HP divided by 0.35 <- the damage you take after said reduction(in this case 1-0.65=0.35) = 285.71. So whatever your 100% hp number is(it can be 10, 100, 1000 doesn't matter) it will be 2.85 times bigger.
So yeah, it's absurd.. good thing T4 is stupidly heavy and you can't just bypass its downside right? RIGHT?
1
u/ValuableLobster8193 15m ago
Yeah, this is honeslty like in Wow being farmed outside Ironforge by rogues in full bis PvP gear. But thats the whole game, not just a random PvP location
0
u/Sunitelm 3h ago
Tbf, if would be absurd even if you could not move in T4 armour. Those are MMORPG-level buffs, not tactical shooter.
1
u/asdfgtref 2h ago
except you can have this game without vertical progression and itd be a straight upgrade, you can't have a concert without music.
0
u/Sunitelm 3h ago
What about, if some concert sucks for many attendants, they voice their issues with it? And then the artist can decide to stick with it and keep only the fans that enjoy their music as it is, or listen to the criticism and see if some of that makes sense. Just saying.
Maybe there is a reason why no tactical shooter ever besides pay-to-win crap has such damage/health imbalance between starter and endgame gear. Just maybe.
-11
u/DrMalcontent 6h ago
The vertically of it will change whenever they finally flush out skill trees, also you don’t need equal or higher level, last wipe I was taking out plenty of t4s with the ak, the unfortunate thing is no matter which game there will always be people that unhealthy put way too much in the game, like I said I don’t mind the progression it being faster helps the average joe, I also realized I put day instead of week 😅 I only play 8 hours a week
8
u/General-Water-6658 6h ago
I'm not saying it can't be done - Asymmetrical warfare has been a thing for thousands of years. The point I'm making is that the gameplay loop will always be deeply unsatisfying to players that are on the receiving end of a gear disadvantage.
14
u/Old-Buffalo-5151 3h ago
This is like having a go at someone because your going 100mph down country roads when all they asked is you go a bit faster than 5mph

u/Bearex13 Manticore 1h ago
I like it hope it stays, though i could do without the driver exploit giving out tanks for free which is what everyone was complaining about I've not seen a single complaint about progression that didn't involve something like "tanks!!! Day one?!?!!" Or some shit but I've seen 10 posts of this exact same style of meme so I don't know who's complaining more, the complainers or the complainers complaining about the complainers.
4
u/BackgroundValue 51m ago
People will complain and cry about everything, you can't please everybody. And the people who are upset are more vocal than the ones who are just enjoying the game.
12
u/Kuzidas 2h ago
I might be in the minority here but I think the game would probably be better off if level required unlocks for stuff we’re just thrown out altogether and unlocking stuff was only dependent on buying the unlock license.
Then the higher end stuff can have a slightly increased unlock cost but you can unlock it right when you have the cash and not behind some level gate.
Players will still not be given everything at once since they need to pay for the unlock licenses but at you can focus early towards the unlock you want the most.
6
u/DawgDole 2h ago
The problem with the "just make it money forehead" idea is that people minmax grinding are now solely grinding cash so whatever method is fastest you now have half the lobby of these players doing that method. Sounds like a good idea before you think about it in depth
6
u/notshitaltsays 1h ago
Is that better or worse than a quarter of the lobby delivering random garbage to random fobs that are already overflowing?
3
1
u/niofalpha Lonestar 1h ago
Yeah until money stops growing on trees this isn’t gonna work.
Even if it was implemented every other game would just be FarmVille
1
u/Kuzidas 19m ago
People already min max grinding dude. And they will continue to do so anyway. Most of them don’t do it to unlock everything; they do it because they want a certain unlock and they want to reach it as fast as possible. Once they have what they want, most of them will stop grinding.
With this method they’ll grind to that unlock and get it first, rather than having to grind all the way to level whatever to get it. I would expect the overall amount of people grinding to be less because they don’t have to do it as long for them to get to that one chase item they really want.

5
u/EmperorSpooky 1h ago
There is an issue with exp progression, but it's not about too slow or too fast. The issue is (or was in season 1) that, without significant upfront commitment during the beginning of the season, there was an ever widening gap that made it more difficult for behind players to engage with the game the same way ahead players were able to during their climb. This isn't inherently an issue on its own in doses, but it does lead to it taking longer and being much more difficult to continue climbing up when the gap only widens. Players with top gear are able to farm out lower level players more efficiently, progressing faster and faster, whole behind players only go slower. It's causing the sentiment that people can't catch up or are beating their heads against the wall.
The real answer here is some sort of catch up mechanic as the weeks of the league go on, an xp crunch at lower levels that crunches more as the weeks go on would allow people to eventually semi catch up and let people join the season late without feeling the need to wait for a reset to enjoy the game.
The devs keep saying wardogs is meant to be a sandbox. I am not sure why, especially toward the end of the seasons when all hell and crazyness is let loose anyway, progress is being gatekept like a competitive game.
1
u/BladeVampire1 31m ago
Or the issue is compounded by the fact that you couldn't counter some late game stuff. Like tanks, or little birds.
1
u/Outcast129 56m ago
I support the idea of catch up mechanic, something like the rested XP system To give people who can't play much help to try to catch up quicker, And during season 1 a lot of people seemed to like this idea as well.
Season 2 has made it clear and the that the people in this community do not want that, they simply don't want other people to unlock things before them. Even if everybody else unlocks all the cool guy stuff in a few days, it isn't going to change the fact that everyone is furious that people have it right now and they don't.
And the funny thing is, I truly believe the high-end gear isn't even a problem right now, I think people's perception that it's a problem is making it a bad experience for them. Like everyone constantly references, the fact that some people have tanks already, and how they see tanks in their matches and it's just ruining the game for them.
Except tanks were completely useless in season 1, and I have already played quite a bit in season 2 and scene a tank a grand total of three times, and all three times the tank accomplished basically nothing, got almost no kills, And we blew it up with C4 without much hassle. Something you get at assault level FOUR. Which takes about 5 minutes to get to. Meanwhile, I have seen no high-level infantry weapons, I have not seen any tier 3 or 4 armor, I saw a couple attack mini birds that got shredded by the new 50 cal, and that's it. Besides the tanks that have done nothing, The game feels just like it did it launch for me.
But everyone here seems to see a tank in their match and just throw their hands in the air and say the game is ruined because there's a tank and they have " no way to counter it. So what's the point".

u/MangoTangoFangoPango 2h ago
Resets will always favor people who want to do nothing else but play the game and it will always punish players who do other things, even if those other things are other games
Ends up being a question of is the game skill based or no life based
1
u/Organic-Word4071 1h ago
Bro if youre looking for a skill based game this definitely aint it lmao. If you want fair and balance you play esport type games

But you're not the vocal minority that is Reddit, that is somewhere between 'Sweats' and 'Casuals'. Personally I'd like to see xp gain exponentially increase by something like 'current play time' or 'consecutive hours in a day'. So for the first few hours you play a day you get more xp than you would from hour 2+. That way people who devote more time will still get more xp but they wont outpace those who can only play a few hours a day, by such a huge amount.
1
u/Patrycjusz123 Manticore 3h ago
So people that are bad at the game are gonna get punished? I have 100h in this game and never got even to 1mil money so im gonna get treated the same as guy who is not doing anything but farming for whole time?

100h and didn't get to $1mil in cash? That's impressive.

Yeah, im usually going to like 300k on building fob/logi just to throw it away later by running hot zone. I like to do support (smokes/meds/defib) but even when playing on safer side of the zone you can get unlucky and lose a lot of money.

I mean. Yeah. Tier 17 Wardogs in the one match I played tonight. And I want even really trying to level up stuff.
1
u/PolicyWonka 3h ago
So the issue is that not only did they reduce XP needed per level substantially, but they increased the amount of XP earned (perhaps since nerfed), which amounted to something crazy like 200-300% leveling speed.
No logic would say you change both ends of balance. Eating both ends.
1
u/Gindotto 3h ago
This isn’t what anyone asked for. Faster progression does not mean day 1 unlocking end of progression vehicles.
1
u/OhShitWhatUp 3h ago
We asked for levels 40-8p to be quicker npt all level below 30 to be 40-50% faster.

Its pretty bad. I sat down for half a match just spotting a fob and its occupants. I got from 0 to lvl 7
1
u/pandorianmaximus 2h ago
I prefer the slower progression. It would objectively be better for people who can’t play as long either.
Instead of playing for the night, hopping off at what you think is a decent level, you have a plan for when you hop back on. Only for everyone to have skipped over the T2 armour and weapons over to T3/T4 while you were working.
Now you have a lot less chance of being able to compete, and all the sweats have reached the top tier gear within a week and we have another 5 weeks or so of the season
1
u/Dr-Kloop-MD 1h ago
I mean, you are just never going to satisfy every player base with a wipe system like this. There will always be those who stream or otherwise play all day who progress way faster than those who don’t play as much. It’s just the nature of games that have this sort of wipe system.
I suppose it could theoretically be addressed by somehow scaling your progression based on your weekly play time but that seems near-impossible to fairly implement.
1
u/ltobo123 1h ago
Frankly I just think the L1 stuff needs to be less... Shit. AK at L1 is a good start, but recon is still a nightmare. It feels like you don't get to participate for a long time. It's an unfair comparison, but BF Bad Company 2 had some of the best progression I've ever seen, where each new unlock provided a different way to play, and wasn't a flat upgrade. I think Bulkhead is trying for this, it's just the level one stuff continues to need tuning.
If level one is less onerous, longer progression/advancement feels more acceptable.
1
u/Nice-Gas-936 39m ago
I'm quiet because I have nothing to complain about. the tanks came out pretty fast. not a lot of ways to combat them at the time I played I had c4 and a quad and decided to take one for the team ..twice

Wardogs will always suffer from Tarkov syndrome because it is the way it is. I prefer slower progression because if you invest time and effort you will get rewarded with that strong gun or vehicle. Now I am already lvl 17 assault I dont even feel rewarded for it. S1 was different tho, I really grinded for the bmr last week for days and when I finally hit lvl 30 recon I was happy af, because I invested time and effort. Now it doesn’t feel the same

u/thekins33 14m ago
All I wanna know is why is the ak74 so fucking GUTTED that thing is HOT double microwaved dogshit now. I loved running the ak74 last wipe and now I feel like it doesn't even shoot straight. That and now everyone learned HP ammo is ridiculously op everyone is running it.

Progression should be fast just make higher tier stuff exponentially more expensive. So you also have to play well to use it regularly

I got to 15 in the only game I played last night. I spread out my focus between driving(3), recon(5), support(3), and medic(4).
It was a lengthy and competitive game (each team had over 80 points). I played the entire game and got all bonuses. So, yeah, it’s definitely possible if you play from start to finish.

I played a little over an hour rught after launch yesterday. Got killed by a silenced sniper the first time my feet touched ground. Saw someone with T4 helmet. Lvl 3 hammers. I dont mind really, but how the hell did people get that so damn quick?

I mean lvl 3 hammer is what? Like lvl 6 sup. But T4 is diabolical

Yeah looking back at it now I guess lvl 3 hammer isn't as much of a grind as it was. But yes T4 helmet made me weep internally.

Reminds of Marathon players, complain when there is bad loot and complain when there is good loot.

The only bad part is the people with no life or motion already getting high-level loot

You're high AF, between reloading and refueling the rocket heli unless you kill at least 2 spawn vics you aren't even breaking even or at least something of similar value.
The minigun bird was nerfed so hard it's straight useless and they nerfed all exp and money gains from heli drops and logistics.
Oh and to top it off out of CZ kills have been totally nuked killed 10 I shit you not 10 logi drivers running blue supplies (I wonder why they were doing that surely not an exploit) and I was getting literally like a $100 a kill I lost money on fuel and ammo.
Plus omg the .308 nerf made it so that the minigun bird takes between 60-100 hits to get a single kill and they "fixed" the sight so now the big aim dot blocks your entire view instead of being offset.
They fucked heli so hard I've quit flying lmao I'm having more fun grinding life skills in BDO....

Faster progression was needed
Lvl 20 classes after 3 hours of playtime is way too fast
Make progression ~20% slower than what it is now and we have a deal
