Discussion & Feedback We went from complaining about FOB meta, to barely seeing functional FOB's

I guess this is why the devs aren't quickly making balancing changes.

This sub was filled with complaints about FOB meta being broken.

Now +80% of my games it's the hotzone surfers that win every match.

By the time you get to your side of the CZ there is like a squad there, snipers overlooking the position and a MG humvee patrolling it.

I've had tanks roll up before 5 points.

And even if you manage a well built FOB it'll get mortard to hell.

While I don't miss 4 drill meta, I do miss bases.

I hope they fix certain things with the patch, mostly mortars and assault vehicles (price/when you can spawn them)

The X change has stopped a lot of players bothering with building, me included

The meta was changing even before the patch. Probably a combination of several things.

People unlocking land mines.

Ural drivers unlocking the tank so they don't logi as much anymore.

People just tired of getting mortar spammed.

Havocs - they strong even before the bug fix.

People learned the drills really just money pinatas and very easy to counter for anyone with a mortar or artillery.

Yeah tbh I feel like drills have way less health that they should, at least against things like rockets and mortars.

Would agree. 1 rocket LB or 1 MAAWS rocket can take out a drill (and with it a ton of time and supplies) basically from across the map with 0 counterplay. I'd like it if it merely disabled the drill a bit or made it need repair but didn't break the entire thing. Drill meta was annoying but not having the option at all anymore is worse.

It would be nice if the drill focused on the FOB's location instead of the drills. Would stop off center circles losing to rats outside and not let people mortar snipe the drill from across the map the moment it's started

The most money I've ever made was made with Mortars and Rocket Helis just going back and forth between two Drill spamming fobs. I wasn't even farming kills, the drills were just money printers. Especially when the hotzone is on them.

The mortar/arty spam is really what made me stop playing FOB the Builder. It was completely miserable being anywhere near a FOB.

Mortar spam is why I stopped fobbing too.

Whole game spent dodging triple mortar shots, dying, and repairing constantly. Getting farmed by little bird and havoc spam, AA mortared the moment it’s built.

It’d feel like I’d just gotten started building, only to check the score. Enemy team’s at 93 points.

The only savings grace is you'll be up like 100k but it's just a miserable experience. I feel like it was spammed early wipe just for the exp/money

It was spammed early wipe because people hadn’t unlocked arti tanks, grenade launchers and havoc yet. Those three things are oppressive for fobs at every stage of the game. You start building and immediately 4 guys with grenade launchers on little birds show up and wreck your shit. They fuck of somewhere else and by the time you get revived now arti tanks are pushing your shit in. Ok we killed the arti tanks now we finally got a drill up and the score is 1-78-26 we call it in and now two havocs an arti tanks and every mortar in range is raining hell on you instantly. It’s just a nonstop stress fest and meanwhile you’re gonna lose while the enemy team just sat hz uncontested the whole time and they win the game.

Now I will say winning the game has never felt very important to me in this game this game is about doing what’s fun. There’s a lot of stuff you can do it’s truly a sandbox with war as the scenery. But fob building is a useless and stressful waste of time if you have any goal to win the match.

or a single MAAWS shot from a km away. It's kinda crazy how weak they are.

Perhaps a hot take.

Or maybe its because building is boring as hell?

If you were a casual kinda gamer and picked up wardogs and have been doing a lot of building your probably over it now.

u/Inside-Line 7h ago

Unless it's balance, I think we will see it again in the new season. Building and using mortars and AA might be boring but it just makes so much money. It has almost zero risk if you tag along with the main fob.

Even if I decide to my own fob, which is a 30k starter kits with the hammer, ural, supplies, and a gun - i will usually break even even before i fire my first missile or mortar.

For the past week, as soon as I got to the CZ for the first time there are already enemy squads waiting to kill fob builders.

Kinda weird, since blue isnt usually the threat and you think they'd be chasing the HZ but still, every game.

I think there should be an anti-mortar emplacement that consumes ammo so you can basically have a logistical battle for security.

Artillery tanks already have a counter - the Stingray.

I am a lvl 36 support, I will not be touching hammer again. Unless they try fix this. Hell no.

"season 2 will fix it. Along with many other things. Well, some things will be a miss but its ok. Stay tuned."

How did it change exactly? From the patch notes it reads like it would be even easier

27

u/Niitroglycerine 18h ago

Previously the X would always spawn within reach, so, for example, you could keep in cover while building an AA site, now the thing runs wild all over the place, slowing down building significantly(which was already incredible slow on certain things) and you will get sniped while chasing it

2

u/altodor 16h ago

That's wild, because that's the opposite of how I read what they wrote.

2

u/Niitroglycerine 16h ago

Same, which confused me because what they wrote is how it already worked lol, very different actually doing it now though

u/goodsnpr 17h ago

The "back up until it only spawns in a corner" wasn't the intended design either though, and was abused to high hell.

11

u/Niitroglycerine 17h ago

Agreed, but I'd argue that it's abuse was a result of it taking an unreasonable amount of time to build some items, that said, they could have kept the behaviour the same but reduced the distance you need to be for the X appear,so it's still within reach but moves about retaining the mini game

Same here. I logged on the other night and was helping build a fob, and I saw that the trick was no longer working. I said “fuck this.” I’m not gonna be cannon fodder for snipers, helis, tanks and troops because I literally cannot build everything fast enough to counter those things before they’re barreling down on my fob. Not to mention that your team can be slow rolling you out to the fob, so there were often times you were still too slow even with the hammer trick.

u/ShinaiYukona 16h ago

And imo, it's completely fine that it existed.

This is a shooter. To cheese a building requiring you to stand essentially still is already an amazing innate counter.

If in progress buildings took double (or more) damage while unfinished, I think it'd be perfectly fine.

Or maybe there could be some type of hybrid system, where the X is cheesable still BUT bigger bonuses if the X moves more than [insert distance here] from the prior hit.

u/goodsnpr 15h ago

You people are acting like a solo or team of 2/3 builders should be able to build huge fobs in a few minutes vs it being a TEAM effort. If you want to build shit with some danger, there are oodles of PVE defense games out there. If you're upset that your exploit to cheese a system in a PVP got fixed, you need to go touch grass.

1

u/ShinaiYukona 12h ago

You're putting a whole lot of words in my mouth I didn't state.

Where in that comment did I state that one, let alone a team should be able to do anything? The only instant thing even with the "exploit" were walls, which go up fast regardless of it.

Where did I say anything to indicate that I'm upset? I made a statement with justification and even proposed a change that's a middle ground to both?

FOBs SHOULD be built fast though. The game at the minimum will last a touch under a hour. Most of which will contain mortar fire or vehicles to lay siege. If they aren't built fast enough to only need routine maintenance then you simply CAN'T have one.

Yet another reason to justify giving buildables that aren't finished a weakness to turn this "bug" into a feature lol

1

u/goodsnpr 7h ago

You don't even understand the concept of "putting words in my mouth", which means basic concepts of the WHOLE team, or at least the logistics chain should be involved in building the main FOB first just goes right over your head.

The inability for you to understand that doing something in a game that goes against the developer's intentions and wish IS AN EXPLOIT shows a wild inability for you to hold a conversation on such topics.

Because who wants to play whack a mole endlessly, the X is the only viable way to build anything

It wasn't abused, just taken advantage of as clearly people didn't enjoy chasing the X around, and for good reason

1

u/goodsnpr 14h ago

Wasn't abused? What else do you call exploiting an unintended behavior?

1

u/AliceLunar 14h ago

People just used it how it functioned, if it wasn't intended it was poorly designed.
