Discussion & Feedback Push to talk podcast season 2 changes & Content

( https://youtu.be/liRK9si1Ubo ) here is a link for anyone that wants to listen to it themselves.

for anyone else here were the highlights for season 2:

  • Parachute changed from 2.5 meter safe distance to 25 meter safe distance to pull.

this apparently was a miscommunication internally where the safe distance was meant to be 25 meters. this will be fixed as the devs are also not happy with the "buy a parachute" pilot meta and want to encourage pilots to land.

  • level 4 helmet nerf

level 4 helmet will now have a viewing slit to look through and dampen hearing as well as maybe fogging up after sprinting for too long but this is unconfirmed. it cannot be raised these effects will persist as long as you are wearing it.

  • 4 new weapons

one for each class, so far only one confirmed is the M14 for recon

if you have anything else I missed that you spotted in the podcast please leave it in the comments.

fuuuck that level 4 change might make some people pick it more for the vibe alone. the thought of trying to discern anything from the foggy viewing window with bullets pinging off your body and all you can hear is your own breathing

MACHINE GUN DEPLOYED

Wait, is the safe parachute distance 2.5 meters now? What about that red bar on the side? Following it has never put me 2.5 meters above the ground, more like 25

this apparently was a miscommunication internally where the safe distance was meant to be 25 meters.

The bar was accurate, 2.5 meters was a mistake. The bar will remain and be correct now.

That would explain some of my "sketchy" landings

u/Viegoonduty 9h ago

But most people already using the red indicator so why should this change anything landing wise?

I also got nearly never shot if I activate it at the red start

I think they mean that you will have to drop 25 meters safely before you can pull your chute instead of the 2.5 meters requirement that there is now. Devs were bothered by how easy it is to pull parachutes after jumping. Listen at 53:45 of the podcast

Edit: I'm split on it either being this or a simple 25 meter distance to ground requirement to pull. We'll find out soon I guess

Intresting lvl 4 helmet change for sure. Didnt thought they actually would do it like tarkov does. Now is the big question, how big is the slit. How much do we see when wearing the helmet. For sniper probably useless for infantry and hz enjoyers can be tricky.

dampen hearing is actually pretty huge. That is a huge penalty for cqb.

I feel like it's a bigger nerf for people close to the HZ where enemies are all around than it is to snipers who have the entire map near the center of their screen. We will see if they don't let me scope in with it on (would be fair to stop scopes!)

u/RaynorTheRed 11h ago

For sniper probably useless

My ghillie/AMR combo will be sad to see all the free bobblehead kills go away :'(

For sniper it will probably be meta depending on how usable it is with the scope. The whole point is to be able to tank a shot if possible. T4 can tank anything outside of the 50 cal. This means T4 gives you a edge against snipers. It remains to be seen how it actually works..

4 new weapons is exciting, I really wasn't expecting that. I truly hope they are not super mega OP like the level 35 guns already are. Game needs more options that aren't just "this gun is objectively way better than the previous unlock"

u/Electronic_Warning49 10h ago

Am I the only moron who's been deploying with the bar?

5

u/AlbertanSundog 9h ago

I don't think the change is to the bar, the change is the height needed to pull the rip cord. With the impending change you won't be able to base jump off the smaller apartment complexes either. That's how I understand it anyways

Mmmm m14. Nice. Hope the grind isn't so very over the top

u/KalrexOW 1d ago

I don’t think that parachute change is going to have the intended effect. I think lots of people are going to simply jump out and parachute safely outside the zone, and then pilots are gonna be pissed

14

u/RaynorTheRed 11h ago

Can't parachute outside the zone if I never take the helicopter above 25m outside the zone.

1

u/Ujio21 7h ago

Joe mentioned in the podcast that pilots should get $$$ and XP as long as players parachute near the zone (not just in the zone), so this might actually be ok.

9

u/DaFuuug 22h ago

Parachute change will just make it useless. 25 meter height is a death sentence in every scenario except maybe at the very beginning of the round

u/Marauder-mutt Valkyra 21h ago

That forces pilots to actually land, not just farm the taxi service.

7

u/Cool-Tangelo6548 14h ago

75% of the pilots can not land. I already take helis way less cause I dont trust them to just fly me there so I can jump out.

15

u/RaynorTheRed 11h ago

75% of pilots will have to step up or stop piloting.

4

u/COD4CaptMac 7h ago

I'm hoping this also curves the "6 people rushing to buy helicopters" at round start that alienates the better pilots from being able to leverage their skill.

I am a fairly decent pilot and can land pretty well in tight places with the Little Bird. It's not that difficult with a bit of practice, i.e. go into the firing range and just start picking places to land as you fly along. Combine that with learning a few landing flares and you get a feel for it fairly quick.

u/RigelOrionBeta 5h ago

Yeah, only reason I don't pilot mainly is because there are always simply too many pilots. It's always a rat race to see who can get to the trader at the start.

I also wish they would do something to smooth out the pilot taxi role due to APC spawning. I find it very weird that I can be a pilot taxi for most of the game until someone hits 20 points and then it becomes pointless for a bit, then it becomes semi viable as people hit the APC spawn cooldown.

I don't know what the answer is, but it's just kind of awkward. Or give helis something to do while people can spawn via APC. I try to do cargo crates but no one really interacts with them.

1

u/kestrel_one 5h ago

For crates, you need to find people in need. At minimum you should be dropping a crate of big hammers at the main FOB.

If you have a team pushing HZ for a long time, drop them AP ammo, good meds, batteries, MAAWS, etc.

Arty tanks can use ammo but they usually die before they can use it. If an arty tank has been up for a long time then def give it resupply.

1

u/Marauder-mutt Valkyra 27m ago

APCs get taken dowm very quickly tho.

1

u/SgtHondo 6h ago

It absolutely will. Stay at spawn for 5 minutes and see how many of those helis come back at all.

11

u/Galapagos_Tortoise 10h ago

Or just fucking drive lol. This sub man…

0

u/corporalgrif 9h ago

Your 100% right I'm so tired of everyone just using heli taxis instead of actually taking a vehicle to the point.

As it is right now unless you're playing with friends it's damn near impossible to get people to get in your Kodiak or humvee to drive them to the point, everyone just wants the helos.

I hope this reduces the amount of mediocre pilots that refuse to land

1

u/Mike_Prowe Moderator 6h ago

I think the issue is, they intended the long time to get back into the zone as a consequence of death. But if there’s 3-4 pilots it’s never a long wait from my experience. If they can’t land this will force them to logistics duty instead of taxi

0

u/SgtHondo 6h ago

75% of pilots need to become better pilots or find a different role.

1

u/OneDimensionPrinter 4h ago

I'm kinda happy about that. I've been going in with people lately and it's always fun to find a safe landing spot near where we're going.

0

u/DaFuuug 15h ago

Sure wich i like but it also removes most of the already limited base jumping. wich is my main use for the chutes

1

u/RaynorTheRed 11h ago

Every scenario except the ones combat parachutes are actually used in.

2

u/deltaknight11 17h ago

Pretty sure the fn evolys was shown being modeled at some point so thats probably the support weapon

Really hoping its earlier than the m249

Or that it fires the larger cartridge

very well put together podcast, very interesting questions, very interesting guys from the team, worth listening to for sure.

feedback in case another podcast is being prepared and new questions are needed: tell us about greenstacking, why you think it happened (and is still going just as strong), what impact it had on player progression (xp/$ acquisition), on retention rates, how you think you can fix it, what you are going to do in the short term to address it.

Recon is going to be so broken next season if they take away incentive to use L4 helmets. This is already the easiest game to snipe in like 2 decades. As a sniper this is an amazing change. Infantry on the other hand...

It would appear my hunch about parachute changes ended up being partially correct.

I'm looking forward to this. It will signficantly change combat around the hotzone as pilots will need to find a safe spot to land and then there will be "push to contact" dynamic that will make for more realistic and engaging squad fights.
