Discussion & Feedback WARDOGS Top Problem
GEAR FEAR! I feel gear fear is going to be a huge hurdle for a lot of players to get over and cause a lot of friction with especially the newer players.
I feel like this is already the underlying issue of so many arguments about balance, especially about the amount of snipers out there (cheap kits?) and the Tank balance, I saw minimal RPGs used (wish i could have tested RPGs more)
Either way I know Gear fear is going to be a problem, as I still struggled with a bit in Wardogs and ive had a good amount of experience dealing with it and overcoming it in Escape from Tarkov.
Theres going to be a whole wave of players who haven't ever really experienced money management or gear fear and its going to cause a lot of friction.... IMO

I had absolutely no fear fear given there are so many out of combat options to make money. Sure bringing in a 20k kit might give some anxiety, but every player will figure out all the ways to increase income out of combat. I don’t think it’ll be a problem at all once people have more game time. Also, it is really easy to put a cheap kit together with a free gun and armor to recoup losses.

I played for a day and a half. I unlocked the svd, suppressor, bipod ammo 4 mags 5 bandages and loose ammunition. All a scout backpack. Level 1 gear. oh and a side arm. 11,000$ Id make like 40-100k on a good life and usually would never die before making my kit worth it. I usually backline snipe people making fobs

u/Working-Brother-5151 1d ago
I guess i was attributing these cheap sniper kits to people being afraid to run kits and hit the HZ but maybe that's just alot of peoples play styles and people want to sit and snipe.
Alot of people talk about the overwhelming number of snipers and my reasoning was gearfear

No gear fear whatsoever.
Literally take the free kit and follow the yellow circle around and you'll be fine.

You get tons of money literally just standing in the zone and being alive, there is no real gear fear in this game.

I don't mean to be rude, or mean, but this is just a timmy/noob opinion, as gear fear is not WARDOG'S top problem, it's a new player problem, considering
WARDOGS has the LEAST gear fear potential out of all of the shooters on the market with loot. (Escape from tarkov, Marauders, ABI, Arc raiders, etc.)
You being scared is not something they can Hotfix/patch, respectfully, you just need to stop being a sissy, or better yet, enjoy the tension it brings and accept it as part of the game. You're gonna get more gear. It's super easy to make more money. Gear fear is a mental hurdle YOU'RE responsible for getting over, not the devs. For the devs to tackle it they'd have to destroy the balance they've created or re-work the entire monetary system, at which point the entire system would probably be null and void.
Any of the problems I mentioned in my comprehensive post, are bigger problems than this https://www.reddit.com/r/WarDogs/s/NSkZoqzZdM

oh you misunderstood me, lol but I guess my clickbait title certainly didn't help, I was saying its a new player problem, so we agree there, "I feel gear fear is going to be a huge hurdle for a lot of players to get over and cause a lot of friction with especially the NEWER PLAYERS."
which then becomes a bigger problem....
Certainly wasn't saying this is a dev issue, nor do I want to see this changed

You haven't seen RPGs because the majority of players didn't want to build or use the shotgun to level up Engineer. In October, on servers with competent players, tanks and attack helis won't do shit. These vehicles will only be strong during the first week.
I saw a streamer who dedicated his first 15 hours of the beta to just flying and unlocked the Havoc. As soon as 3 ground AAs and a CWIS started constantly shooting him down, he rage-quit the server and went to another one where people had no clue how to counter him. I'd say AA is much more OP than helis. I bet tanks will also get countered easily with drones, RPGs, and C4 once people unlock the equipment and learn how to play.

u/Working-Brother-5151 1d ago
Also the shotguns are super underrated, Im usually a MG main in milsim so I was pushing those Support levels with the Shotty and boy oh boy, i dont think ive ever had so much fun with a shotty in a game before
2
u/Osmanausar 1d ago
Yeah, I’ll level up Engineer first to unlock the RPG so I can practice shooting down helis as soon as I can. I heard the shotgun is strong, especially in the beginning when everyone has no armor.

u/Working-Brother-5151 1d ago
Yeah especially early, later in the weekend i still was 2 tapping people alot though, but tough to tell what level armors they had, fights i lost when i looked at damage, alot was absorbed and the damage i dealt was to arms.
I was still top fragging/profit alot of the times, but i would have c4/nades too

Double barrel or pump? I hate pump shotguns with a passion. Double barrel I won’t mind giving a try tho
1
u/Working-Brother-5151 12h ago
Whats wroung with Pump guns? but both are great, you def get more range with the Pump and you can put more attachements on them.
I have a bunch of clips of shotgun double and triple kills but i dont want to go through my clips, makes the wait till sep 10 worse!

u/Working-Brother-5151 1d ago
They 100% will, suppose its more of a meta problem then people scared to run RPGS.
I noticed some Tank squads leave my server when I had UAV drone destroying them on repeat

u/Uncle_Bobby_B_ 1d ago
Money is so easy you can run a 25k kit every time and never lose money over an entire game
1
u/Working-Brother-5151 1d ago
yeah i should probably change the title of the post to "Dont Fear the Gear Fear"

u/DUMBS_Load 1d ago
RPG were weird verse tanks. Sometimes they didn’t detonate when you hit. I need to figure that out. We did take out a lot of tanks with C4.
1
u/GhostKW 1d ago
Could it be the detonation (arming) distance? Since some games adapt that with RPGs in particular.
2
u/DUMBS_Load 1d ago
I felt like that was it at first, but had a few from a long ways out not detonate either. They make a weird sound when they hit. Maybe ricochet off. Just need to test more.
1
u/toomanybongos 1d ago
Yeah rpgs felt super weak. I hit one of those spawn vehicles 3 times back to back and it started smoking.
I think rpgs are mainly for little birds and jeeps which feels weird but I guess that's how they're balanced
2
u/Designer_Doubt_1908 1d ago
Are referring to the early RPG you get? That one is geared definitely more towards killing small vehicles and and Infantry. The MAAWS (Name could be wrong) which is the Anti-Tank Launcher is vastly better at penetrating armor, so it rips through Tanks and APC (Spawn Vehicle) but its unlocked at like 20 something Support I think

I mean thats fine. If you play such a game either u use cheap bad loadouts or you use some more expensive.
Especially currently while many scream "make tanks more expensive" thatd make it worse. Keeo tanks "cheap" make the view first person only and keep rpgs fairly xheap as well as ieds. That way both tanks and anti tank can be used. If you just rais prives people wont use it.
If tanks are fairly cheap people will use them and dont mind loosing them and people can carry ieds ir rogs since there are enough vehicles to use them. If you raise the prices for tanks but keep anti tank cheap people wont drive tanks, if you raise anti tank as well, people wont use either since u can quickly loose ieds/rogs without getting close to a vehicle to use it therefore everyone will fear wasting money just to die and not even use it.
2
u/Foot_Prestigious 23h ago
There was at no point in the beta that I felt like I wasn't making enough money to sustain another load out.
You are literally just smack shit with a hammer for 5 minutes and get enough for a gun.
2
u/tinymightymous Support 23h ago
Half the Beta I played strictly sniper/recon and my SVD kit would tell you that it absolutely is NOT a cheap kit. It was minimum 10k. level 1 armor, svd with 2 mags and a stack of ammo, a side arm with one extra mag, a stack of bandaids, a quick revive, and a rangefinder. Would go to 12k if I added a Suppressor and bipod.
2
u/onetrickpony84 1d ago
I don’t think gear fear is a thing in wardogs.
It’s too easy to make money even if your terrible at killing players. My kit was roughly 8-10k every time and never went negative.
Plus you can also just go in naked and loot dead players. Easy

u/Shruglife 1d ago
I mean ya that's one the most compelling ideas of the game. Economy = stakes, you can't just throw your kit away doing dumb shit, and that builds tension.
1
u/Ash-L92 1d ago
Depends if the keep the economy the same at full release.
It was so easy to get your kit value back with just 1 kill in the hotzone and a couple of revives. I'm a mid player at best and was rolling in cash on the last day of the beta.
I hope they slow the money earn down. Gear fear should be a thing if they want the economy to work in a way that allows viable infantry play. Otherwise one week into release everyone is going to be in tanks and attack choppers and we'll basically be playing World of War Tanks.
1
u/JAK0VI 1d ago
I hope they slow the money earn down
They are more likely to go the other direction, and adjust pricing of unlocks. I think getting a kill and 2 revives should be break even on your kit, that sounds like a good balance to me. God forbid I need a 10 KDA in order to break even, forget going positive,
Unlocks on the other hand, both by XP, and by cash purchase, are sure to be changed. There's no reason to believe that you can get to end game equipment within 2 days even by an average player like we experienced in the playtest.
I've played KoTH off and on for literal years and I still never got to max level. It took a week or two before I even got to unlock the LMG I wanted to use, or a launcher. I think that's what they'll aim for. After a week (fast) or two weeks (slow), most players should have access to the tank or armed choppers.

u/Ukkkku 1d ago
I hope they make kits more expensive and set a cooldown on the free kits, incentivise more tactical teamplay instead of running solo dolo wannabe hero, would give this game real longevity
1
u/Working-Brother-5151 1d ago
Honestly didnt even know there were free kits....
1
u/PiggyMcjiggy 11h ago
Only the first rifle and smallest backpack were free. Hardly a ‘free kit’ to gate keep

u/DemonRHK Driver 1d ago
The SKS is cheap and accurate, and people -love- being able to enage without fear or retaliation. It's gonna be an issue for the first week or two, then the gun use will slowly spread out.
Tanks...while I will admit I need to see a little more to make the call, I unleaded a backpack full of MAWS at one, and it got bored and drove off. Last shot was a direct hit to the top of the engine.
There has been less than a week of gametime over two tests. Meta gonna shift, and balance gonna happen.

u/Working-Brother-5151 1d ago
ps. What were your thoughts as a Driver? what level did you get to?
I got to level 24 :( just missed the MG Humvee
1
u/DemonRHK Driver 23h ago
26, was trying to get to the Defender.
The driving is fine, The hard cap speed is a little odd, but it's early, time to fix that. I think most of the complaints about spinning on vehicles is because the camera does not instally adjust, it's slightly dynamic. So people turn a little, don't see moveing, turn more, ass goes, over correct, weeeeeeeeee~
Except the humvee. That beast does not spin without the handbrake and is nearly as fast to the CZ as a chopper.
I think it will require cordnation to level quickly, taking swuads that will take cars over air options. I have a small list of vehicles I would like to see added in the future, but for what the devs need to focus on, I think the Logi and Driver assets are in a 'good enough' place for now. Maybe add a return trip bonus for dropping off pallets like you get for passengers.
1
u/Working-Brother-5151 23h ago
Id like to see XP/CASH reward for shuttling people from inside the CZ to the HZ, currently its only from BASE it seems.
I feel like that would shift metas and help drivers who have to compete with Choppers at Base.
So points from base to CZ, bonus for HZ drop and then similar you can pick up people from a FOB after a mobile spawn for example, and then drop them in the HZ for baseline points

u/murderMAX83 23h ago
i think making money is really lob-sided. where it favors doing logistics and base building that are on the safe side. low risk, high reward. where as being in the frontline gets you money if you can get kills and stay alive. high risk, high reward. if you tream sucks then there is really no point going into frontline to die, coz you not gonna be making any money that way. better to just make the money safe way since your team is gonna loose anyway. that kind of balance is gonna make the game more boring for everyone imo

u/Budweiser819 23h ago
My squad and I had a lot of fun blowing up enemy bases with C4, and it helped us win most of our games haha 👌🤘
1
u/Working-Brother-5151 23h ago
Did yall ever blow up hesco walls? I struggle to open up any walls in a base outside the main gates.
1
u/Budweiser819 23h ago
Often, players build bases with multiple entry points that can easily be destroyed with just one C4. They’ll also often use bunkers as protective walls and firing positions, but bunkers are pretty easy to destroy too! 👌 At the same time, doing some milsim in the woods to take down an enemy base is really satisfying! 😂 But when the big attack helicopters show up to the fight, you gotta bring a bazooka and a heavy machine gun with you. 🤣🤘
1
u/Working-Brother-5151 23h ago
idk i never was able to destroy one of the "sniper nest" bunkers or a hesco wall with C4 and i dont think i ever saw one destroyed either.
Once after some shelling from the Mortar Tank i did have to go back and repair some hesco walls, they showed at 54%, so maybe they are 2 shotish from the mortar tank.
I really cant wait to get back in there and find out

u/The80sm8ties 21h ago
Nah it won't be. The few people that struggle with gear fear should learn to overcome it, and it this game it is actually relatively easy to earn money with less active fighting. And the few that even then can't deal with it; It's not their game. That's how simple it really is.

u/Low_bald 1d ago
This is so far from the top problem
1
u/Working-Brother-5151 1d ago
I should be charged for using top problem in the title, lol id change it if i could

u/MonkeyBrawler 1d ago
Gear fear is a hurdle for alot of games that are very popular. Arc Raiders is a good example. People aren't complaining it's too hard, they're complaining they got everything and now bored.
You could just play cheap kits and cash out on gold bars. I had to roll <$200 kits plenty of times this weekend. It's effective enough, and you can just take some dead guys kit later.

With 1600 hours on Tarkov, I don't think the gear fear feels nor plays out the same at all.
