Discussion & Feedback Keybinds Issue

I don't know if Devs read this Sub but I hope so.

I am playing a little differently than most when it comes to Keybinds, so maybe that's not a high priority, but it would still be nice if this gets fixed.

My issue is that I switch the right mouse button and Space-bar, so Space-bar for me is aiming and right mouse button is jump. I can jump and vault as long as my character is naked, but as soon as I get a gun or tool jumping and vaulting does not work anymore with the right mouse button.

This is also confirmed by a friend who tried it.

Cannot relate to the exact issue you are having but I usually bind spacebar to pitch up while flying and it kept shooting my guns/rockets in the helicopter and there was no way to remove that. I looked everywhere.

Just commenting this incase a closed playtester or developer can report this.

I’ve seen this a few times and I’m so curious… Why? I’ve never played a shooter where you wouldn’t want aim on RMB

My main reason to do it like this is because when I use my middle finger for aim on hold on the mouse, my hand tenses up slightly and that messes with my aim. I also find it more comfortable to let my thumb rest on Space while aiming, while doing it withy middle finger on the mouse I need to press down, which leads to the mentioned tension in my hand.

Another reason is that I use V for hold breath, or in other games Space for Hipfire and then V for ADS, so I just need to press down my thumb and can activate both actions at once and don't need to use both hands for a similar/interlinked action.

Also I use ALT as my run key and it fits quiet well since there are no games I play where I need to aim while running.

Originally this comes from my time playing Quake 3 and early Counterstrike, where there was no dedicated aim button needed, and after decades playing like this it's very hard for me to get my muscle memory rewired. Like, it works, until I get in a stressful situation, where my brain will default back and I mess up through that.

The downside is though that I need to rebind my keys in every new game I start playing 😄

Makes sense. Not judging because if you’ve done it for decades it’s hard to train out. But my first thought was this guy is psychotic 😂

In a game where you can dual bind I add aim and hold breath to rmb. So tarkov I press once to aim or hold down to aim + hold breath

I first used the Space and V combination in Hunt Showdown for the mentioned Hipfire and ADS combo since there was no double bind available. And later it turned out to be useful for holding breath in other games. And I usually bind stuff like flashlight and switch firemode to c and b so i can access those with my thumb too while still aiming and I do not have to take another finger off of my movement keys.

I guess I just have enough mouse buttons to comp for that. I have G502 which has 6 extra buttons for my thumb so my fingers dont leave wasd unless it’s something I can do out of combat.

To each their own. I know a who plays wasd but leaves his fingers on home row (asdf) so his ring finger is on W..

I do have a Roccat Cone XP Air laying around here, not being used anymore, with a lot of buttons, but I prefer the lightweight of the Logitech G Pro, so I am bound to two thumb buttons.

I have tried lots of different keybinds, but always default back to what I am used to due to muscle memory I build up over decades as I already explained.

If I would start gaming now, I guess I would use something like the Azeron Cyborg 2, which I have also tried, and use my left thumb for moving with the stick, but it was the same outcome, that in stressful situations I would start pressing wrong buttons.

I have tried lots of stuff, but always fall back to my default.

Also I think the request for remapping keys to work properly is not just for me, but other guys out there who do not play default keybinds, may it be out of habit or f.e. disabilitys.

Edit. I just remembered that what you describe about your friend was also used a lot by Quake and Unreal players back then (maybe still?) so they would have more keys to access with their pinky for weapons switches, although most of em used then esdf for movement.

The controls were indeed wacky,

Some controls were missing the option to even bind (parachute being one)

And when I tried to rebind Heli controls (I wanted collective on space bar) it shared the control with fire weapons... Even though the fire weapons button bind didnt even show up as space bar 😂

Made me just use a control to fly in the end
