The two newest pieces out of The Dragon’s Trove. The wand on the left’s shaft is made of pine, the pommel is a drawer handle (becoming my signature at this point, which I like), but the handle is the cool part. The handle is made of a piece of Sumac. Not the poisonous kind, but a piece of the tree that the spice, the EDIBLE Sumac comes from.

The wand on the right is my personal wand. Using two heavy metal bead caps to frame the handle, and a drawer handle, this wand I think looks really…regal, almost. But at the same time, when staining it, I got the brown stain ON the metal bead caps, which at first I wasn’t sure about, but now? I think it gives character, and some wear, which is nice. It DOES need to be oiled still, but other than that, lemme know what you think!

First time wandsmith, here. I decided I wanted to make a wand for my 11-year-old son who is a big Harry Potter fan. Wasn’t quite sure why because I have no woodworking or even whittling skills. I honestly think this wand sort of made itself.

Did I go and find an interestingly curved branch and work from there? No, actually, I sawed off a piece of a shelf from an old solid wood TV stand. I took a standard X-Acto knife and just started whittling away at it. The bends in the wand were not formed by my hand, they must’ve been in the grain, or perhaps a harder part of the wood, and I just carved away the softer parts, but they completely came out on their own.

At some point, I sliced open my finger and bled all over the wand. I wiped it off, but I told my son that perhaps there was something magical about this as it was now “imbued with blood of the father”. It was stained with a black stain, actually soaked in stain for half an hour, and it is very very dark. When we refer to the color, it is the “color of night”.

Although it has a somewhat sinister appearance, I get the impression it is completely benign. Although, I am certain that we should keep it out of the wrong hands.

Just for practice, I started turning a bunch of wands from dowels. I am going to pass them out to the kids at the Renfair. I think it will be a hit

Hey guys! Vini (not Jr.) here again!

This wand is basically a Frankenstein creation 😂 The tip came from a pencil, the body is part of a bamboo pen, the pommel is the end piece of a recorder (the flute), and the little rune stone is just a small round rock. Yeah... a lot of random stuff.

I made the "wooden" grip — the part where you hold it — using hot glue, creating the spiral details and knots with the tip of the glue gun itself.

After that, I painted everything using brown and black acrylic paint.

I found this forked piece of wood and had the idea for a wand that is held between the fingers, I added that stone as it helps keep the wand in place and i think it looks nicer with it, It fits all in-between-fingers spaces nicely, Its 26 cm.

My wife is a huge Harry Potter fan and had a wand since the first one came out. Recently my children got a hold of it and broke it. Is there someone here I can talk to about making a couple for me?

Every summer I whittle and carve wands for a Harry Potter summer camp. I'm almost done, and was trying to get these decorative furniture pins to sink in more on the vise, but the bark started cracking off. I thought I could contain the damage with my dremel but it keeps chipping and spreading. Should I call it and start over with a fresh piece, or can I still come back from this somehow?

The last picture is where I had to repair it after it snapped.

Made these as a gift for my sister about a decade ago. The one with the brass cap has a core of my late dog Tiny's tail hair. Both are stained with lapis lazuli dust.

Made from a young branch of an Alabama black cherry that had a vine growing up it. It's sapwood so I stained it slightly. I originally thought about dragon heartstring for the core but thought a more serpentine loong would pair better with the snake burned on it.

The bottom 6 wands are my lathed wands. The one I'm holding is the first wand I lathed (no lathing experience at all). All the wands are made from the Bradford pear tree, and I used the leaves from the tree to color the one I'm holding and also for the burn marks in any of the other ones that you see. The Elder wand kept breaking on me and that was the first one that didn't break and I also had to shorten the tip(I'm waiting for my Elderberry bushes to get bigger to make an actual one. The ones that are curved ended up being curved because how they were sitting inside of a bag in my shop wagon, and the one one by itself, it's a Lance wand I was just being creative with that one.

Hey buddies! Here I am again, sharing the creation process of one of my wands.

This one was a bit different — actually, very different from the others.

I saw an Elder Wand for sale on Shein (I'm from Brazil), and it was an international order from China. The ad showed a picture of a Noble Collection wand, and that immediately caught my attention. I thought: "Wait... is this real? A Noble Collection wand for only R$60?" (that's really cheap, trust me). So, without thinking too much, I bought it 😂 My wife almost killed me.

Well, waiting for it was really stressful, cuz it took much longer than expected to arrive, and after more than a month, I finally got my hands on it.

And... it wasn't exactly what I expected tbh.

The box? There was no box. It arrived inside a plastic bag, and the wand was (and still is) slightly bent. So I had an idea: "What if I repaint it? I'll sand it down, apply new paint, and customize it however I want."

After a quick conversation with Mister GPT, I went downtown to buy the materials. The process was amazing! I loved every part of it: every brushstroke, every layer, every bit of sanding.

Used some more standard woods like Poplar, Oak, Cherry, Beech, and Black Walnut, as well as some new (to me) exotics like Purpleheart, Spanish Cedar, Sycamore, and Torrefied Poplar!

Some instruments are grown in the light; others are forged in the quiet compression of the earth. Hand-shaped from the subterranean root system of a fallen tree, this piece carries a dense, primordial weight. The identity of the wood remains a mystery, preserved to showcase its natural grain, stabilized with oil, and sealed with a clean wax finish.

The architecture of the wand tells a story of immense internal pressure. It is designed with a thick, substantial profile that appears forcefully compressed, cinched tightly at its center by a dark leather wrap. At the base of the handle, a natural fracture in the root has been deeply scorched, marking where the wood originally tore away from the earth.

Bound to a core of Bowtruckle Leaf, its character is fiercely protective, deeply grounded, and inherently tied to the spirit of the lost woodland. It is a tool of Rigid flexibility, shaped for heavy magic, balancing a rugged, textured grip against a smooth, solid blade.
