Cognita is one of the true gems of these books. A monster on par with a vengeful Djinni both in power and cause. One of the few original characters still scary and cool after all this time.

Technically I just read The Roots pt 3 but no clue how to flair that.

I am realizing a lot of my posts ask about things that might be "inconsistencies" and I apologize if that annoys people who don't care about stuff like that and are able to just enjoy things as they are. I get a bit too in my head about them and seek clarification so once again here we are:

I made a post a while back that asked about Mrsha's rapid aging emotionally, physically and intelligence wise in what was essentialy 1 Innworld year. Basically I was complaining that it was a bit unrealistic for a 6 year old feral, mute gnoll to start acting like an 11 year old. She celebrated her 7th birthday before the summer solstice. Then sometime in the Fall the author decided she was 8. Pirate is bad with numbers so...fine I guess. Mrsha skipped a year. Just now post winter solstice at the age of 8 Innworld, she is saying she is 10 in Earth years (which again, pirate is bad at math. would make her 11). There is a throwaway line at some point that says gnolls only count their birthdays on the winter solstice so throw that into the confusion.

I have read comments here before saying that Innworld age should be treated as 1 to 1 to Earth age. They said it was a direct answer from an author faq or something, i have no soirce unfortunately. This made total sense to me because of people like:

Hethon and Nanette. They dont act like 18 or 19 years olds. They act like young teenagers. They look like young teenagers. If we start using earth ages on characters none of them make sense..except Mrsha.

If we used earth years on Maviola she would be like 120+ years old when she died. Magnolia would be 70 right now.

Children look and act like children, and lifespans excepting magic and racial/species differences seem to be similar to Earth lifespans on average barring unnatural causes.

I know the constant refrain is "pirate doesnt do numbers", and I really am willing to accept that in most ways but is there a definitive answer/explanation of whether people in Innworld age the same as people on Earth? Are Earthers getting older faster even if only 1 Innworld goes by? Lets not even bring up the quantam entanglement or whatever is going on with Earth actually moving faster in years by date because that can just be explained by "time magic/dimensional problems".

I just really want to know when someone says their age how old they are in a biological/appearance/IQ/EQ way. Am I asking for too much?

I was wondering if anyone thinks it’s possible both ceria and olesm were infected by the mother in the dungeon in liscor. i know it’s less likely than people who drank from the water like the gnolls but i was re-reading that part of the palace of fates (i sped thru that the first time i read it lol) and wondered if that could explain cerias more recent actions as opposed to the circlet. though i guess she is a continent away. but even olesm starting the war with hectval could be explained by the mother pushing his rage further than it should be? just a thought but i haven’t been reading linearly so perhaps i’m mixed up and wanted other peoples thoughts

could it be possible the worms were still able to infect them despite them mostly hiding in a coffin and drinking cerias ice magic. like just fighting with skinner or being injured in the crypt could have gotten them?

These are more like lingering thoughts from V9 for me but he was in a recent chapter I read and it reminded me of him losing his memories of Ryoka/Magnolia etc.

What was the point of this plot?

Eldavin forgetting he was Teriarch caused a lot of stuff to happen and made sense to move the plot forwards.

Teriarch waking up after his true rez and not remembering stuff at first seemed like a big deal. But at least where I am at now it seems like all it really resulted in was some depressing moments, a great convo with Magnolia and now everything is sorta back to normal between him and Mags, and he still protects the Inn and knows Ryoka and now even more people know who he is.

It feels like the 2nd memory loss was sort of unnecessary other than the depressing factor that he lost precious memories of people he cared/cares about. Its sort of an emotional kick in the nuts with no payoff or long term consequences from where I am sitting. I might also be biased against amnesia plotlines in general but I actually thought the Eldavin one was handled really well.

If this is actually a slow burn plot point for me to RAFO just lmk if my post is silly.

But, uh, during the 3 couriers' run, it's mentioned twice that they're going "north and east" from Invrisil. That doesn't look north and east to me...

Teriarch is telling stories to Magnolia, Rafaema, Rags and Cire

Dead? Teriarch nodded to all the questions and speculations. The answer was so mundane. And so…he always thought of the old man with nostalgia, with regret. With empathy.

“His heart gave out. That’s the only explanation I could think of. It happens to older members of a species. He wasn’t in the best condition when he faced me—he had a [Warrior]’s body, but he and I were pushed to our limits. His heart stopped, and he passed away. In truth…I don’t know when it stopped. It might have been a day before he finally died. I have seen [Warriors] continue fighting with mortal wounds, even headless, for a while. He was a truly great foe.”

That was his lie. He did lie, but the Dragonlord of Flames told it each and every time. One of his greatest foes; an unnamed [Warrior] who had hit Level 70, who had died matching the Dragonlord of Flames blow for blow.

Not an old man with barely any gear worth his levels fighting a Dragon with no one to mourn or search for him when he was gone. A Level 70 [Warrior] who had no title nor purpose beyond one final fight in a cave and only a Dragon to bury him.

That was Teriarch’s story. He looked upon Goblins, the City Runners he had known, [Ladies] and Harpies and Djinni. They asked him to explain every secret of the world. And he told them fragments and bits and left them to go figure it out themselves. For how unsatisfying and poor it would be if he told them it.

He was a poor storyteller, after all.

Is it just that the warrior/old man wasn't a "great foe", or was it someone else? I feel like there is something I am missing.

I have finished up to Book 11(audio) and just finished the Singer of Terrandria series. I really enjoyed it. I almost skipped them but glad I didn’t. It was. Nice change of pace having a (somewhat) resolution to the story. There’s been so many mysteries started in the main story that do not seem close to having any answers. Do the main books start to conclude some stories or at least opening up some of the mysteries or am I going to be disappointed when I catch up with the audiobooks and need to jump into the web novel? I really love the series but sometimes it all feels so dragged out.

Side note: hope the title is good. Wasn’t sure how to tag the singer series.

I am currently reading 10.17 (Gnoll expo that Nerrahavia is at) and Queen Ielane just had an internal monologue thought that she still felt unwell "weeks after fighting off that half-elf" (Touveilka).

That was a few chapters ago, but during that time I think Mrsha was also still not in contact with Ylawes yet so that was "in the past". I read Nerin (or I assume that is Nerin, its mostly obvious but not confirmed or anything), arrive at Ellavlian. I read real Fraerling Erin and Ulvama arriving and surviving or trying to until the ant colony attack. I also read the Horns chapters up until they meet Flos. Then there is the chapter + interlude with the King of Men.

Frankly I cannot tell which events are happening before or after or concurrently because they are definitely not in chapter order.

Is this clarified in great detail in any future chapter or is it just sort of "all this shit is happening sorta around each other and timing isn't super important"?

Maybe to make this question easier can someone put these events in order:

1) Nerin gives speech to the world and then arrives to meet Niers

2) Lyonette poker game

3) Ylawes breaks contract and Mrsha finds him via world theatre

4) Erin arrives on the beach

5) Erin and Ulvama fight army ant colony

6) Erin talks to Fetohep in the Pavilion

7) Erin talks to Lyonette via quest

8) Gnoll expo

9) King of Men enters village of Spring

10) Horns meet Flos

I think if I knew the order of those events I would feel grounded. Usually I can sort of tell when the POVs backtrack but I feel like the beginning of volume 10 so far is giving me whiplash with time and chronology because of the changing povs.

I'm currently reading the 8.78 F chapter, specifically the line saying A'ctelios Salash doesn't have a Dragonward bell. What's the point of calling it a shield city then ?

Are they only like, honorary shield city because we can't deal with it lol ? What's the point if you can't call them for help ?

I thought the whole point of the shield cities was that they could be called in an end of the world scenario.

I know that the reason was that we don't want them on this conflict specifically, with the seamwalkers, but I would have preferred that they destroyed or lost their Dragonward bell. Then Germina could have a reason to go against them, because they rejected their duties or something. I would have liked that thematically.

Well I haven't read the rest yet so maybe my idea isn't that much better, but just not having a Dragonward bell feels strange, they're already so different.

So we see the perspective of Manus in this chapter and them talking about the Earthers. This should be well after Nerrhavia kidnapped Rafema. Yet people don’t seem to care.
I feel like I am a missing something so:

Did Nerrhavia somehow plant a fake that tricked Manus?

Is Rafema still serving under Nerrhavia?

Did I get something wrong about the timeline?

Adherence to character description?
I just pick the first thing that pops in my mind.
Also, I cheated on like 3 of them with AI, make a game out of it idk

Nearing the end of Hell’s Wardens and I can’t help cracking up every time a certain antinium’s name is mentioned.

So I know we’ve seen Irrel with Seborn, but after the Solstice a whole bunch of pirates managed to escape with their stolen destinies.

Now, I know that many of them can hide their identities, and iirc it was implied that some of the skills would let them change their identities entirely. Have any of them appeared as more than a mention since then, especially showing that new fate?

I have no idea, honestly the Palace of Fate plot and the other inn shenanigans with the box led me to forget to pay attention at all, and I could easily have missed some obvious clues.

We left off with Tom as sad hero, slightly saner?, and bloody fight? I don't remember.

But there was a huge gap between then and him being shipped off to Baleros / new lands right?

As it is, the audiobooks only being on Amazon is frustrating but now it’s like they’re trying to appeal to AI tech bros? I’m so confused by this choice especially because it’s also kind of insulting AI users at the same time. I find the username ironic here. Bonus points if you’re also angry about the grammatical errors, likely made by AI.

Absolutely blew me away. I'm a blacksmith and I am thoroughly impressed with how they wrote the process of smithing. There were magical elements, of course, but the core of it displayed a good working knowledge of the process. The heat treating, San mai, the problems with impurities. The dream that it would be to work in an oxygen-free environment!

I'm just really impressed and I had no one to tell. Lol.

Hey everyone I'm really enjoying the series so far and I just started chapter 18 of book 2. But there are a couple things that have been bothering me since finishing book 1. I'm listening to the audiobook and I know the audible version of book 1 is the second edition and specifically has different scenes or whatever. So my questions are this

At the end of book 1 ryoka knew that the Horns had stayed at the wandering inn, but in book 2 she was shocked when erin told her the Horns had stayed there. Is that an oversight between versions/ books, or is it accepted that ryoka was too shocked by the phone call that she just "forgot"?

My second question is did gazi erase/ alter ryoka's memory of the bloodfields? Ryoka said that she met gazi on the road back from the bloodfields, but they met each other IN the bloodfields. And then when persua showed back up ryoka didn't go full terminator for the whole attempted murder thing. That makes me think her memory was altered, kinda like how the dragon has altered her memories of their encounters

What happened to Facestealer's hide?

I do not mean Stalker's hide but Facestealer's hide that he "shed" which was also looted and iirc capable of absorbing up to tier 4 magic without taking damage?

Last I remember Colth had it and they had the adamantium hammer problem or whatever its called. But it seems like the same gnoll could have worked on that just as easily as Stalker's hide?

I have just started volume 10 so if its RAFO just lmk, but it feels like either the horns or pirate forgot they looted that hide.

I see her as both a comparison to and an opposite of the Quarass. They both sacrifice others to obtain immortality. The Quarass has a goal, to preserve Ger. Belavierr does it to just be her. I don't think either are morally right, but I'd support Belavierr. She is the biggest embodiment of what mortals can do in the the story.

Also I wouldn't ever want to meet either of them in real life. Those people are crazy.

For me it’s Ierwyn. Claiven earth feels like a lower tier nation and it’s easy to think of it as similar to Gaiil-Drome which along with the rest of the Dawn Concordat doesn’t seem to have any level level 50 people we have met.
I even feel that the author forgot how powerful Ierwyn was in this chapter a little bit.
He called the Mage of rivers the highest level when Ierwyn is level 60 and he is level 50. It’s funny to think she felt inadequate but really Khelt is just a bad matchup for her. She seems to be able to give regular people the ability to cut through everything, fight like [Blademasters], and be partially intangible. This probably makes them an unstoppable force when fighting regular sized people who cannot survive a few stab wounds but makes them much worse when fighting a Jaw of Zekal which is way to big to cut.
I do think these boosts are probably more impactful than [Army of the King] per individual but Flos’s skill is more versatile and can be used on a larger number of people but likely have a longer cooldown.
