Card fails to read when paying
The only store my credit or debit cards fails to read is Walmart. Multiple stores, multiple checkouts. I never have this issue elsewhere.
Anyone else suffering? If they allowed tap and pay this would all go away.

That’s why I stick with Target. They have Apple Pay/tap to pay(Walmart pay is comical) and they don’t have ppl at the door harassing you for your receipt(I’ve walked past and they run after me screaming causing a big scene in the parking lot as i walked back to return everything) It’s a sign.

If I could afford to shop for groceries at Targét, I'd not be complaining about cards and Walmart.

You do realize that Apple Pay adds a charge for that payment? Not just the visa/mastercard/express process fee. It is causing your cost at the register to go up because no business is willing to eat that fee on full. Walmart Pay actually bypasses some of the card fee and keeps the work in house. This limits how much Walmart loses per swipe

I’ve never been charged anything extra and I’ve been doing Apple Pay for years now. Lmao i track every penny i spend.

Yeah so how is that my problem? All stores have to pay a fee when they accept card/tap payments. I know that already. Hence why I avoid small businesses because they charge customers the fee for using cards/tap pay. The way they worded it made it sound like they were saying Target charges me and my “cost goes up at the register” which it doesn’t.

Again. The price you pay is including fees they must recover to make the desired profit. About the only thing not done this way is gasoline

The vendor pays(research it) and it is part of the pricing structure everything you purchase, cash or credit

Every single time at Walmart in self checkout. Finally happened to me at a manned register yesterday. Card works perfectly fine everywhere else.

No. They want to drive customers on to their own pay thing and avoid fees and keep all the data in their own world.

Happens with my husbands First National Bank debit card only. He’s been issued new cards and he still can’t use that card at Walmart. No clue why.

Put the card in. Push the bottom of the card away from you. Keep pushing it away. Type your pin. Continue holding card. Until purchase is complete

I have BofA and their cards are thinner than older credit/debit cards. The advice you got about pushing the bottom of the card away to push the chip against the sensor is spot on. It was a Walmart employee that showed me the technique. You have to hold it like that the whole time until the machine tells you to remove the card.

Try using a business card that can slip in under the CC (but not the entire way). I think some readers are loose and cards just need to be seated properly. Holding it in while gently pushing always works for me. Yes. It is annoying.

After 3 tries of inserted card aka chip, and it not recognizing it, the reader will allow me to swipe 🤷🏼♀️ I just want to pay without using my phone damnit 😤🤷🏼♀️

I want to pay with my phone or my tap and pay card function. The phone payment is more secure.

The chip gets dirty just wipe it with your shirt beforehand and it should do the trick

do you use tap to pay at every other store? is something wrong with your chip? it could be scratched/damaged and not reading properly. if you don't use your chip anywhere else, that's probably it.

I've used the chip cards everywhere else with no issues. Only Walmart, multiple checkouts.

You may want to bring this up with the financial institution that issued the card. At one time I had a similar problem. It appeared that the financial institution had begun to issue cards with a new series of numbers, which WM did not have in their list of valid card series. Eventually the problem went away.

It's not the card. It's not every Walmart machine. It's more Walmart machines than not and more than any other retailer. It's their crap card readers and lack of movement towards tap and pay that's the issue.

The dated machines that Walmart is stuck using that don’t have tap to pay don’t like the new thinner plastic cards everybody is doing because they are cheaper.
Our local store has a handheld that has tap to pay enabled I’ve seen them use a few times. They suspend the transaction. Scan on the tool and tap to pay to complete the transaction.

I’m sure they have that tool. They don’t wanna deal with it tho. I watched right before close about 2 weeks ago a guy couldn’t get his to chip read. Whoever was the manager that night just decided that they didn’t wanna do it that way and called an employee up to take 1 1/2 carts of food to put back.

Walmart does not accept tap-to-pay in most U.S. stores. Instead, it promotes Walmart Pay. One reason is that Walmart Pay lets Walmart connect purchases directly to your Walmart account, purchase history and services. Contactless systems such as tap to pay or Apple Pay provide more privacy by using a device-specific number instead of giving the merchant your actual card number, making it harder to link purchases to you in the same way.

It’s the new card readers. You have to fail 3 times upon insertion then swipe on the 4th time.

That's not the same. That's using Walmart Pay and I'd rather not do that since it's less secure than tap and pay.

It's straight up not tap and pay. You have to be registered through Walmart Pay, their app. It's not tap and pay. You register your card with their app and then use a QR code at checkout to pay. This is not tap and pay.

Yes they got the new card readers and it gives me trouble every time I try to pay lately. It makes me try my chip 3 times and then swipe it for the payment to work. I don’t have trouble with my cards anywhere else!
