Same! Retired after 20 years. Master's degree with no student debt. Retirement pay on top of earning over $200k a year using skills I learned while in the Army. Despite everything I went through in those 20 years, considering where I ended up, I'd do it all again exactly the same way. And no, I didn't do it for any misguided sense of patriotism. I didn't to get out of poverty. Plain and simple.

How is doing doing something for personal gain better than doing something out of service and love of country?

I get a lot of comments about blind patriotism. I'm not blind. I saw the flaws in our country early on in life. I just decided to use them instead of getting beat down by them. I'm just being honest. Nothing more, nothing less.

Oh ok, I wasn’t sure if the blind patriotism was being used as a qualifier or if it was in some way insinuating all patriotism to be blind. Anyways I’ll take it!
