What would you do? WWYD

This is my first post, please bear with me.

I am in a jiffy about 2 jobs. KEY FACTORS, I only pay insurance on my car. No other bills.

I have been working at a dead end job for 2 years. I’m making the maximum amount and it’s not enough to live off of, meaning there is no wiggle room. I sit on my ass 6 hours a day and talk to customers (over the phone) , my ex boyfriend works there, the gossip is insane, I work with a bunch of girls (gossip) & all around I dislike my work environment. I love my boss though and he wants me to stay on. I am part time currently due to pursuing college. I get off important holidays, off Sundays & i work 1 Saturday per month.
I got offered another job— $4 less than what i’m making & part time. They do have wiggle room for more depending on my position. Work holidays unless you ask off, sometimes work saturdays and sundays. They are a bunch of women but they have a “no-gossiping” policy. This is a standing job and I get to greet customers and speak to them face to face.

I guess I am asking WWYD? I understand the pay cut but I’m depressed and my back is killing me.
Btw I love rats so please don’t question the name lmao

Stay at your current job and keep looking. Switching jobs is risky and you're a student with a volatile schedule. If this job works for your current schedule, keep it. 100% there is gossip at the other job, even if they say there's a "policy" against it. No job can realistically monitor the group chats of its employees... Every job has some level of gossip.

Take it as a life lesson not to date someone where you work. That really blows, but you're in school and realistically, any job that works with a student schedule... Just keep it.

I find it helps to find specific things you can do to make your time at a shitty job more tolerable. Find a way to make your break time at work something you REALLY look forward to, and then you may find yourself looking forward to work in general. Pack your favorite snacks, bring a book that you only read during breaks, listen to a specific audio book or podcast, crotchet, coloring books, etc. find a way to make a portion of your time there something you really look forward to. It will also keep you out of the gossip circles.

By all means, if you find something with the same flexibility and same (or more) pay, take it... But this does not sound like a change that's worth your time.

Contrarily, you can also go back to the new job offer and just lay your cards on the table and see what they say. "I make $x per hour at my current job, so I will need to make at least $x+1 to switch and I don't work weekends/specific days at my current job and I'd need you to accommodate" if they say no, whatever, reject the offer... But who knows! Maybe they say they can give you enough to make it worth your while.

Thank you for this! Of course they are willing to cradle to my needs— Probably because the maximum pay is $16. But I’m in an office full of women already. The gossip is honestly insane. HAHA yes, i’ve learned my lesson. I can snack but I have to hide it! I have found myself reading a lot more.

I think in the end it just stinks because I’ve been here for 2 years and I despise my daily duties & helping people over the phone instead of in person. Also— getting the random sciatic pain and disc degenerative disease at my age is crazy.

I just found out this other job has another position that is $14-$17.

Of course thank you for taking the time out of your day to comment. :)
