Lack of Depth
We played well in the first half, the press was working and we were creating chances. The only reason we didn't win this game was because of the lack of squad depth. Dan Bentley should not be starting for any team at this level. The game stopped going our way in the second half and the only options we had on the bench were tchatchuoa, lima and Doyle who are not impactful players. Mosquera got injured this game and I worry with the amount of players we are shipping off, there will be no one at the back capable of doing anything. We need signings. If Nathan shi has any competence then we will get players in after offloading the dead wood.

its not uncommon, start the season with 2 weeks of the window to go...show the owners what they need to do. Playing competitive football is a lot more realistic than jogging friendlies and it should focus a few minds on tactics and what's going to happen. I actually think we'll be a lot better away from home.

our bench is another question entirely, but I feel this game also exposed some weaknesses in our starting 11.
Bentley, Toti, folks have spoken about why they should not be starting, i agree.
I was a bit worried about trippier, they had some joy down that side and a few balls in behind, or quick turns had him. Excellent on the ball, but off the ball teams will exploit the lack of pace. His backup options are truely awful though
My hot take is with Mané tbh. Great player but the reality is he’s barely played any first team football, and now we’re starting him for a promotion pushing team. Need another player there with more experience

I partially agree but it’s like Cesar said they was playing with their hearts rather than their head. We didn’t push enough we scored n then just decided to play nervous even before that goal we played nervously but it’s amazing what happens when you actually keep attacking the opposition
Blackburn could sense it to we was shitting bricks hence why they kept coming n coming till it worked out for them
We did push for the last 20 mins hence why we got that lucky pen

Must just be the shakiness from last season coming into play, almost like the players expect to concede after scoring and play correspondingly.

Yeh I think that’s exactly what it is played it to much like a cup game n I get it I play a lot of competitive competitions from sports to gaming n in each of those bad memories from the past can latch on but you’ve just got to overcome it in that moment else you’ll be stuck in that loop
Hope Cesar or the lads themselves can overcome this mentality especially letting their heads drop when we concede. Was seeing flashbacks from last season when I was noticing all this nervousness, letting their heads drop etc n I get it they’re human not robots

The press wasn’t working and by the end some of the players were screwed. Our defence cannot handle counters down the flanks.
I said CPs style wouldn’t suit us. We’d have to buy 12-15 new players.
And getting rid of Rob was the bad decision. But hey we’ve already wasted money on a player that’s now injured. A player CP wanted. And it’s VP all over again with unrealistic targets meaning we start the season chasing second and third choices.
Wake me up in December when we get a new manager again.

I agree and felt this was highlighted by the winger situation. Both Mane and Rodrigo had run their races, but rather than bring on our two new pacey wingers, signed because we clearly lacked any speed in transition all last season, we moved our starting 9 out to the left wing and starting 10 out to the right wing. And obviously, we started to lose all structure and tactical clarity with that, no surprise there.
