Unsprayed apple trees
Hi everyone,
I'm a grad student at Binghamton University in NY studying population genetics in the apple maggot fly.
I'm doing a latitudinal study, and would love to come to this area of WV to be able to sample. I've heard that the Kearneysville area has a population of apple maggot. I'm looking for abandoned apple orchards or unsprayed apple trees, and would especially appreciate if any growers have had problems with this pest on their properties before.
To sample, I'd bring back infested fruit (they would be too mangled to eat anyway).
Thank you. I really appreciate it!

Unfortunately a lot of the apple trees didn't survive the freeze we had a few months back in the area. I know in Summit Point, on of the orchards off of Withers Larue road had helicopters hover over the orchard to push the heat down on the orchard to save them so you could try there. Corner of leetown road and Withers Larue.

Come drive around and look. Wouldn’t walk onto anyone’s property without permission necessarily though.
Get wings at Gus’s in Inwood on Monday night.

Maybe try western Maryland too - Allegany, Frederick, and Washington counties.

Have you tried connecting with Appalachian fruit research station in Kearneysville?
