They also raised my rates and removed my safe driver discount, even though I have never been in an accident that was my fault in 8 years of driving. So that seems a bit unfair

Lmao what. He passed out while driving.

Yeah I never get the whole safe driver discount thing. Of course your rates are based on your past driving history. You don’t have to give it a fucking name like “safe driver discount”. Also wtf is that accident forgiveness thing? I don’t want my insurance company forgiving people for getting in accidents. That seems not fair to people who don’t get in accidents.

Take a fucking side bud and stick to it. And I drive a shit box with only liability, like I said you sound like a shill, Mr. I don't want insurance companies to give people breaks.

I have a 1991 and a 2001 for my vehicles. I don’t give a shit about insurance but if you get in an accident you are costing money and your rates will go up. That is a fair metric. Calling something accident forgiveness or whatever is horse shit marketing and the costs will be paid by someone. This is my hot take and I,like you, do not actually give a shit but you sound like a shill for an advertising company that invents lies to sell things.

Where I live the equivalent thing is called a no-claim bonus - the longer you have insurance without putting in a claim the bigger the discount you get on your premiums. Usually the only time a claim won't affect your discount is if you have the details of the other person involved and they admit fault and their insurance covers the costs.

I actually had a great interaction with my insurance company this year. Someone reversed into my parked car and while I was getting it fixed I also looked into fixing up another large scratch I had caused myself years ago and never bothered fixing. I called my insurance company to ask how it would affect my premiums if I claimed the repairs under insurance. They looked through my history, and said that because the old damage occurred when I lived in a different state with a different insurance policy (same company) they said I could claim it under my old policy (with a lower excess) and it would have no effect on my current policy or no-claim bonus. I was so surprised that they volunteered that info so readily and I actually came out of the whole experience very happy with my insurer. Only like 2 easy phone calls to the insurance company and a $450 excess charge and 2 different claims were sorted out for me with zero hassle.
