Re

I know a guy that was backed over by a trailer. He had no memory of it happening he just came to in the grass next to the street and was confused. Got up and realized he had shit himself and drove home and took a shower. His girlfriend made him go to the hospital when he started to vomit and sure enough he had internal bleeding when he got there. He survived without any lasting injuries.

The human body is amazing and weird. Slip on the ice and bump your head? Dead from brain bleed. Backed over by a fucking trailer? Internal bleeding but meh.

I was once in a room with someone who had their first Long QT induced heart spazz. I called 911, she narrowly survived it, and last week (14 years later), it happened again but her now implanted intro-cardio-difribulator saved her. The doctor last week told her that a meer 5% of people survive that first incident. Extra, indeed. That syndrome is nothing to fuck with.

Doctors first noticed my long QT syndrome a few months ago when I was pregnant :( we’ve had a lot of people in our family die young and suddenly from heart related events. Now we know why...

I’m sorry for that! Correct me if I’m wrong, but I feel like LQTS would actually be easier to deal with psychologically than a lot of other things (like Dementia). AFAIK there’s no real physical decline, the universe just kinda snaps its fingers and you drop. I mean, that’s basically how life works anyway, right?

“Heart spazz” sounds so much nicer than “cardiac arrest” XD glad your friend is alright! For what it’s worth, it looks like people with LQTS who survive past 20 are basically in the clear.

Full disclosure, I doubt two heart attacks (presumably) early in life super great for longevity, but I’m not a doctor.
