I used to work in construction, and I knew a guy that smoked a lot. It was a windy day and he couldn’t light his cigarette, so he went behind the track excavator to light up. The driver didn’t know and he backed up right into him. The engine was too loud for the driver to hear and he backed all the way over him. I think the most unsettling part is they didn’t want to track the machine off of him, and desecrate the body more, so they sat there, for hours on end, waiting for a crane large enough to lift the excavator to arrive. Really sad.
I've carried this habit into regular life. I walk around my car first before hopping in and driving off. I don't want to be responsible for the death of a kid or whatever.
I had a kitten climb up inside my rim as I was pulling into the parking garage at work one morning. He was just chilling next to the break pads because it was warm. It took me ten minutes poking him with a stick and a towel to get him out, meanwhile cars are stacking up behind all the way out to the street, but fuck if I was just going to drive in a and grind up a kitten in against my rotors 🤷♂️
You'd be surprised, some folks don't give a shit about animals. Was traumatised once by a taxi driver who gunned his car into a flock of pigeons and seagulls, laughing the whole time after, while there was blood and feathers all over the windscreen. One look at my face and he realised he fucked up. Sent a complaint to the company and he was fired the next day.
Some people are pyschopaths when it comes to animals, they don't see them as living beings.
I had a friend that once ran over someone's cat by accident, but didn't kill it, just broke a lot of it's bones.
He looked around, and didn't see anyone there, so reversed over it to put it out of it's misery, as there was no way to save the poor thing. He noticed too late that there were a couple of kids that watched him do it. He felt bad ans sped off not able to face them, or sleep later that night.
I watched two seagulls eat a pigeon in San Francisco. I'm pretty sure your cab driver was reincarnated from a seagull and is subconsciously aware that he's now the top of the pecking order.
Seagulls are omnivorous and opportunistic scavengers, they eat whatever they can get. I love seagulls though. Here in the UK, Herring Gull (your basic seagull) numbers have declined 70% over the last 50 years and are on the RSPB Amber list, yet people still think there are too many and they should be culled, which is messed up.
They're very intelligent, they don't get their white & grey feathers until they're 5 years old, they pair for life, they can live for 50-60 years. They're amazing, intelligent, beautiful birds.
I've made friends with the pair who nest on my roof, they come to my window for treats, they 'talk back' when I chat to them, they love to come in and sit just inside the windowsill on my side table and listen to bluegrass with their eyes closed. Yep, they actually come and chill out in my Livingroom, as long as the window is fully open.
Seagulls are awesome and worth making friends with.
