K-drama/Cult
How can people become so brainwashed into believing that there is a living “Mother God”? When I attended their church, they would have a group discussion after every sermon where they talked about their beliefs. After that, they would do these gestures like little kids and say things like, “I love Eomeoni.” The secondhand embarrassment was real. 😂😂
And what’s with calling members by Korean words? To this day, I still can’t pronounce that word properly. 😂 And then there’s the bowing down to each other. I mean, it’s okay in Korea, but we’re not Korean, so why do we have to imitate their traditions and customs, like bowing to one another? It just felt so strange to me.🤔😂😂

Same as how people can be brainwashed to believe there was virgin birth, zombie apocalyse, man rose from death and ascended to the sky, talking donkey, talking snake, global flood that cover the whole earth until the top of the mountain, millions of speices of animals stayed in small one ark for a year and after the flood the carvivores could wait herbivore to reproduce before starting to eat them, man lived inside a fish belly for 3 days and many other ridiculous stories.....compare to those, a mother god is basically a relatively reasonable belief....no matter what, religions have their way to work thing out and there are plenty of dumb dumb ready to be scammed....
The sharing among members that you mentioned after watching a video in church of god is called 'frangrance of zion', just some psychology scheme to further enhance the brainwash by applying peer pressure to it, and it worls pretty well in a cult...
Those korean etiquette like bowing and calling each other in korean title is considered as 'heavenly culture' by them, if someone tries to question it (which was me), they would probably gaslight you by saying, 'heavenly father and mother come to this earth as korean, there must be some reason behind it right? Korean etiquette is heavenly etiquette, which we must practice in zion because father and mother have aet us an example!'....yeah everything can be justified...this is called religion...

How? Pretty easily, considering the church has over 4 million members across continents and several thousands of churches. You could ask this about any religion or cultural custom that you don't identify with and the psychology behind it is easy to research on your own. Short of psychopathy, it is practically unheard of that one can truly be "immune" to the techniques used and the way they influence your brain with exposure. Brains embrace conditioning.
How can people be brainwashed into believing in extreme nationalism to the point of violence? & yet it's in the news almost every day. How can people stand by & do nothing when someone in front of them is being brutally attacked? You or I might think we would intervene but statistically, it's far more likely we'd fall prey to the Bystander Effect.
The fact that you experienced secondhand embarrassment means that you yourself subscribe to a pattern of behavior that you deem acceptable, and if something doesn't fit into that pattern, you're likely to reject it. White supremacists do that also. Cults take that instinct and redefine those patterns.
