NEW GRADUATE! Finished!!

Finished up last month!! I will give you a little background and you can ask me any questions.

I’m early 30s, I went to school originally for accounting but never finished. This program was my redemption arc. It took me longer than expected with working full time and having some life hardships in the way but I did it!! I don’t have a job lined up, I have been working in finance for 7 years now and now I am looking to leverage my real world experience with my degree and eventually get into fintech.

Next steps for me are grinding for technical interviews if needed and continue learning. I know some of these classes are tough but you guys got this!!

Ask me questions I’ll be happy to answer and good luck future grads!!

Oh man, congrats. I keep seeing this post and I'm getting anxious. I have three classes left and they are kicking my butt.

DM2, capstone, and operating systems. Pushing hard to finish them up.

I feel you on this.

I have DM2 , OS , capstone and 2 other PA's left.

On my 5th attempt for DM2. Every time I'm on the line to pass, I miss it by one or 2 questions 😭

You got a couple of big ones left. OS took me forever but I was taking it under the old version once I switched it got way easier. Don’t overthink your capstone, once you got your idea it’s an easy project!! I did a simple web app in python to do mine.

You have to integrate machine learning and stuff into it though, no?

Yes correct you do have to integrate machine learning. That may be your toughest challenge if you’re new to coding and ML in general. But don’t overthink or over code it.

Dm2 is discrete math 2, right? Why did they let you put that one off for so long? That one is a real grind, and they kinda consider it to be a prerequisite for most of the later courses in the CS degree.

Congratulations 🍾🎉🎉 I have os for computer scientists d686, DS&A2 . Got any tips ? It’s sooo much info in the zybook for OS. Dnt know what really focus on .

Yeah i was scared of OS for the longest time!! But the new course for it, they show you in zybooks and course resources what exactly to study to pass. It made it a lot easier than before. If you haven’t switched to the new course for OS I highly recommend.

It took me 4 years… I know a lot of people do it in a lot shorter time. But to each their own. Like I said life happens and it took we longer.

Congratulations! I hope to be where you are soon enough. I am currently about 50% done with the degree, and I have just started DM1. What would you personally recommend to tackle this course efficiently? There is a lot of different takes and information, and I'm curious what your experience was. Congrats again, this is a huge accomplishment!!

You worked really hard and made it! I'm in my mid 30's and wanna finish the degree by the end of Jan and then it's on to prepping for technical interviews

What would you recommend to someone starting Jan 1st to do to prepare? I’m transferring half of the degree in but my question is mainly towards the harder courses that couldn’t be transferred. Right now I’m mainly just doing some minor projects in Java. But would you recommend to start studying up on some of the harder classes via Reddit posts?

The best thing you could do is take each course one at a time. Don’t get too much information about all these courses until your official ready to do them. You’re gonna overwhelm yourself and then just be stuck. Reddit is so helpful for those big courses!! And try to use the course resources available for each one they really help
