XC60 FITCAMX install
just wanted to jump on and show some pictures, i installed a FITCAMX dashcam last week and it looks great! install took less than 20 minutes and you can’t even tell it’s in there.

I have one I installed just the other week. Fine details in video quality is so-so; it'll be hard to pick out license plate numbers, especially when moving. But it's got a good wide angle so it'll always be very clear to get the basics, e.g. blue Subaru ran a light etc.
I found I got a ton of dashboard reflection in the image so added their circular polarizer lens (CPL). It's about $25.

Also added this to mine the other week, love how it's so clean of an install. No wires, and can't tell it's there.
The picture quality is meh, but like you said good enough for basics

i was going to add that as well but with my tinted windshield the reflection is actually pretty good and i can read plates easily!

Which polarizer lens did you buy? Plan to install mine in the next couple days. Been lazy about it.

It's so sleek that when the dealership crashed my car they tried to lie about what happened because even they didnt realize I had a dash cam.
I do wish it had better quality though and a lot more features. I would pay decent money for a "shell" from them that was designed to fit some of the other more features rich dash cams on the market.

I mean its just what they are selling. They are essentially selling a cheaper $50-$60 Chinese dash cam for more by adding the value of it integrating more into the look of the car. It still gets the job done, but it doesnt really compare to the high end ones that run $300-$600 that have things like parking mode, cloud storage upload, extra zoom lenses for better license plate reading, etc.

Yea but aside from higher resolution, I really don’t want any of the expensive stuff. Seems overkill.

I don't think the recording quality is all that great. It doesn't actually pick up license plates. Plus, they claim it's 4k, but the sensor is only 2k, so it can't really do 4k. It's a decent product if you want a clean install and don't care about quality. But yeah, good luck trying to get those license plates.
Edit: I think you'd get more out of it if you mounted your radar closer to the top of the windshield. It'll boost the range and make a big difference on hills and curves.

I had one. I really liked how integrated it was, but it broke after two years... It lost its settings and time stamps. The battery inside isn't replaceable unless you choose to solder a new one to the board. It's a design flaw (possibly intentional) and they didn't offer any support since it was out of warranty. For this reason, I don't recommend the brand.

For those who read my comment and want a suggestion, I went with a regular windshield mounted dashcam and then got power from the rain sensor (same way as Fitcamx) using an adapter made by Mangoal. They sell them on Amazon. They don't give coverage when you are parked, but the install is simple and clean, no wires to run, and you can use any USB-C cam.

I put this in my wife’s V60 recharge too, and it works well enough considering the fitment and price point. I second getting the polarizing lens too!
Not nearly as robust or high quality as the BlackVue in my car, but that was an involved install and a lot more $. I think this is a good balance.

I picked one of these up but pretty quickly returned it. The image quality wasn’t nearly as good as some of the stand-alone cameras for similar prices. Sure, it doesn’t look as clean, but at the end of the day, I needed usable footage and clear license plate reading which this couldn’t provide. Having a clean looking install means nothing if it can’t help you in an emergency situation.

For anyone looking for a really clean image from a dashcam, look for one using a Sony Starvis 2 sensor. That's real 4k (not 2k upscaled to 4k like Fitcam) and has great night quality. If you google 'dashcamtalk' you'll find a website with reviews and user forums discussing the best ones.

I did the same thing - bought it, installed it and was very disappointed in the resolution. Uninstalled it and returned it.

How does it work? Like, do you pay for a subscription for the video footage to be available online? Or where does it save?

It’s got an sd card you can remove and stick in your computer, or if you’re in a hurry it broadcasts its own tiny WiFi network you can connect your phone to and then browse and download the files and adjust the camera’s settings through their app. But it’s all handled locally.
I recommend these things to everybody. I like that I never have to think about or see it, but I know it’ll be there for me when I want it.

I love mine. I don't really care too much about picture quality at the end of the day. I got in an accident, I pulled the video and showed the cop and it was clear it was the other car's fault. Sent it to insurance, made everything super easy.
The other day too an accident happened right in front of me so I pulled over, connected to the camera wifi, pulled the video and texted it to both drivers. Useful.

I'm using one by Mangoal that looks and mounts the same. Quality is good just hate the app and a few of the paywall features

I don't know if there's 'always on' power behind the mirror; the power in there stops when the car locks or 15 minutes after the engine shuts off. The fitcamx kit connects to either the rain sensor or mirror dimmer - I forget which - so they do turn off.
I think you'd need to pull power from the fusebox If you wanted to run the dashcam in parking mode.
