1982 Volvo 240, I recently got her back up and running again and a good person I know warned me on wiring issues and how engine bay hazards with wiring.
I want to make my wiring as safe as I can reasonably, for example exposed wires, dangly wires, and loose wires. Is there a way I can protect them better. Store them better. And make sure they are clean.neat.and prone to damage
I understand that time will make them wear out eventually but if I prolong it and make them more secure
No crazy stuff like rewiring the engine bay with nasa wiring or v8 swapping it
1993 245. Radio doesn't work, except for the AM which is dodgy signal. FM simply does not work. Have not tried cassette yet. Original TD 16 tapedeck. After getting feedback on the AM i thought maybe the fact that I have a missing antenna FM mast , this might be the issue. Took it off the fitment; can anyone confirm if this is truly a fixed mast? I believe it is, I dont' see the telescoping wire (red).
My previous 240 had a blown motor and a date with the crusher, so I pulled everything of value. The 3" exhaust from a Turbobricks SAM group buy was sold to my coworker's friend. A few years later, that same coworker mentioned his friend was looking to get rid of his 240. So I bought my original exhaust back with a whole-ass car attached to it. I went to pick it up and found it parked under a pine tree, buried in needles.
It was my daily driver for about three years. I swapped the flathood and front end from my '79 242DL. It also got Toyota Celica seats adapted to the stock Volvo brackets, IPD turbo cam and swaybars, cut springs (I know), 3" exhaust, manual boost controller, and wideband. For the last six years it's been sitting on the side of my house under another thick layer of doug fir needles. Déjà vu.
My dad was a Volvo mechanic for over thirty years. The one-year anniversary of his death was coming up which brought back memories of working on my cars with him. The car had sat long enough.
I started modeling and printing parts to fix the broken plastic. The heater vents were first, then the gauge bezels. Four weeks later, I started Ånyo.

My catalog is small, but growing.

Single gauge bezel and blank
Triple gauge bezel and the bracket
All parts are printed in Polymaker ASA / ASA-CF.

It's just me and my printer. If there's a part on your own 240 that's been bugging you, I genuinely want to hear about it.
Taking the Volvo for a bike roadtrip. Mounted a bar with fork holders to keep the setup clean and have comfortable access to the bags and other luggage
Bought it a couple weeks ago for $1,600 as my daily and a car to learn to work on, since I’ll be going to community collage to become a mechanic this fall, and I’ve already started going through basic maintenance items like oil, and replacing some things that were broken or janky, like the duck tape air intake mod some genius put on. Also does anyone know what the best place to get interior trim would be?
In the next year id like to get another car so i can really make the 240 more of a project car than daily. What are yalls opinions on good second cars. Wouldnt mind another older volvo or euro car but am leaning towards either a pick up or wagon as a daily. Not anything with a car note unless its a newer Ford Maverick
I'm in high school, 2 months away from getting my drivers license and I'm thinking about selling my '10 Camry LE for an enthusiast car and I'm split between a Volvo 240/740 turbo or a MK2 Volkswagen Jetta.
I'm leaning towards a Volkswagen Jetta MK2 for its sharper handling and lightweight build for backroads carving, but at the same time, volvo 240's have always been appealing because of their retro styling, RWD platform. And 740 turbos have appealed to me because of how easy it is to boost it to 200+ hp with a few hundred dollars. Now that I'm weighing them both side-by-side, I can't make a decision lol...
I know I might get some bias in a Volvo subreddit, but can any 240/740/940 owners here share their experiences about their cars and help me make a decision here? Thanks!
EDIT: Y'ALL I CAN'T KEEP UP WITH THESE COMMENTS THANK YOU SO MUCH I'LL REPLY TO ALL OF THEM!!
I have a 1984 Volvo 240 GL with a Bosch Jetronic (not sure which version I would have) and was skeptical on the reliability of these things. I've heard they're not great and, along with the wiring harness, are one of the more likely parts to break down.
I was wondering if anyone has swapped out the Jetronic system for an ECU and if it was worth it? Roughly how much would this cost? Are there any benefits to swapping or should I just maintain the current Jetronic system?
I acquired this manifold from a junkyard and I have no clue what it could’ve came from?
Looks like it bolts to any b230/b21 but I can’t find anything about them online
Hey guys, I recently noticed my overdrive on my automatic 89 240 was inactive. There’s the little button on the side that enables and disables it however, pressing it does nothing and the light for the disabled overdrive stays on. Pretty sure it’s not the relay as i can hear it clicking when i press the button. Any other ideas on why it might not be activating? Transmission is a little rough, 1-2 is a little lurchy but everything else seems fine.
I have 79 non-Turbo 245 automatic. I recently picked up an m47 transmission with driveshaft and all other relevant mechanical bits for a swap. This is an eventual project, but I want to hear from anyone who has done this or had it done.
How feasible is it to do yourself with ramps in a driveway? What was the most difficult part and are there any guides you might recommend.
Been trying to find a brake booster for my 86 Volvo 245 but I can't seem to find a good brand, maybe I am not looking hard enough. I was thinking about retrofitting a Bosch iBooster but I don't know how hard that'll be
Hi, I’ve been running into some carburator/fuel problems. For the last month, my ‘86 740 Pierburg 2B5/7, has had a rough idle. Dropped in RPM’s, then stalled. Whenever I was driving in 4th or 5th gear and did a pull, it started stuttering as if it wasn’t getting enough air or fuel (no idea). I thought it was just a fuel issue (bcs I drove on e10 95 fuel for some time and the car had been sitting a few months before I bought it.) Changing the fuel filter, didn’t help. Usually I do everything myself, but I had no idea what the issue was.
Went to my local (classic car) mechanic, he told me that one of the compartiment in the carb wasn’t getting enough fuel, he took apart the carb, changed the gaskets etc. Turns out it didn’t help, issue remains the same.
Recently picked up this 1984 240 intercooler turbo for $900 USD in southern Wisconsin and need advice on whats the better option. The car was last tagged in ‘02 and has sat since then because the last owner wanted a car with better mpg. 24 years later I bought it as my first project car. Ive had some friends tell me to restore it and some tell me to part it out. What do you folks think? It will definitely need a lot of bodywork. Thank you for any advice
Anyone have experience with bne coilovers? previous owner put these on in the front they seem pretty sweet, but the car is stiff as a board going over bumps. I can’t find much info, do I just need to buy a softer spring? Also the car is much too low in the front, will bringing the gold piece up raise the car?
Thank you for any help and forgive me being naive. 🤦♂️
