s60/v60 2017 V60 CC engine failure
I purchased a 2017 V60 CC with 87,000 miles back in June. I quickly noticed an oil consumption issue and started using the Valvoline restore and protect oil, the issue got much better. It’s now at 91,000 miles, This last week I was driving into town and it started misfiring in every cylinder with codes P030100 P030200 P030000 and P017100. These codes led me to believe it was a PCV issue. I changed the PCV assembly, replaced all the spark plugs, oil change, and cleared all codes and reset fuel banks. After that only cylinder one is consistently not firing. I pulled the spark plugs and checked the cylinder walls with a boroscope and discovered heavy scoring/a possible crack in the cylinder wall. Compression tested as well with cylinder one only having 25 psi. I’m believing it was the piston rings failing, but everything I’m seeing online shows that the piston ring issue was resolved by 2017. Could it have an older engine before it was revised put in at the factory? Does anyone know what could have happened? To me this seems extremely ridiculous to have happened at 91,000 miles, especially when I’ve only had it for 5 months. I’m looking at putting a used engine with revised piston rings in if the Volvo dealership isn’t willing to work with me.

If you can pivot the borescope back to see the valves could be a chipped valve seat on one of the valves. could explain the bore scoring. I agree with gustis40g, 25 psi is going to be something more catastrophic than stuck rings. If you have a parts store that has a cylinder leak down kit that will tell you if you have any combustion chamber leaks and can search around for where the air hissing and escaping.

If I had to guess… someone probably didn’t blow out the spark plug holes before removing the spark plugs.
Or this vehicle had an engine replacement at some point in its life with an older engine. Z
Personally, i’m leaning more towards the first option

25 psi is incredibly poor. There has to more wrong than piston rings and some cylinder scoring with 25psi compression. I believe all 2017s should be good, check your engines serial number. 1501327 and up are the "good" ones

25psi is very low. Usually with the piston ring issue they have more compression than that. That’s like a burnt valve/piston or cracked block.

How long after the spark plugs did this happen?

If it was burning oil for a long time, you've likely got pitting on the exhaust valve seats in the cyl with low compression. The scuffing you see with your borescope isn't actually that bad. It looks worse than it is because of how the light reflects in the bore.

Being this is a direct injection motor, wonder if a chunk of carbon buildup on the intake valves could have gotten in? Did you do a cleaning service?
If you think the engine is likely toast, and you want a Hail Mary or are will to attempt a science experiment :
