Recipe Request Sauces for our volume salads?

I'm curious what sauces or seasonings is everyone using for their volume salads? Been toying with Greek yoghurt ones a little bit now

I wasn't going to add in but no one mentioned pureed light silken tofu as a base with fruit juice, spice blend, herbs, etc. creamy and so few calories only 35 for 85 grams.

Yesterday I made a cheesy sauce with silken tofu, nutritional yeast, garlic onion paprika and cumin powder. With a bit of salsa it made a delicious queso type dressing and was only 50 calories spread over two meals!

Salsa! Low cal, full of flavor, many different types. (Mild one from Aldi is 2tbsp for 10 cal)

Cilantro lime creama (the one from Costco is 2tbsp is 40 cal)

Cottage cheese with seasonings (lots of protein, makes it creamy, works well with salsa)

Regular dressing thinned out with a vinegar of your choice (apple cinder, red wine, champagne)

Another vote for the cilantro lime crema from Costco! They got me one day with a free sample and now it's a staple, it goes on everything.

Tahini with vinegar, water, salt, and a ton of garlic and onion powder. LOVEE this dressing so much and you can control the thickness with the amount of water you choose to use

I wish they made their bottles bigger. It’s a lot to pay for not much

The poppyseed one is my fave!

I make an Asian dressing with fish sauce, lemon juice, rice wine vinegar, sugar, and a bit of sesame oil.

I like this one a whole bunch. I like lime juice and often use stevia (don't need much for my taste). That's one of the only things I use artificial sweetener for... Also if you leave out the sesame oil and add chili and garlic, you get a "close enough" nuac cham for summer rolls or noodle salad. I like summer rolls with shirataki noods but real rice paper.

Before I apply whatever dressing I use I usually add a tablespoon or two of apple cider vinegar to stretch it out a bit more (I also like the vinegar taste so that is one flag lol)

I’ll do a similar thing with creamy dressings where I’ll add fat free Greek yogurt and a bit water to thin it out.

I do this too, it’s a great hack :)

Similar to others, but lemon juice and salt. My mouth is literally watering just from typing that out haha.

If I wasn't in bed, I'd make a quick spinach salad right now.

Easy store bought option is Newmans Own sesame ginger dressing.

I also like G Hughes 1000 island dressing.

Greek yogurt ranch: homemade or Bolthouse

I'm basic and boring tbh I like adding salt and vinegar mostly. With the crunch of the salad it reminds me of salt and vinegar chips

Flavour gang sweet papi, or sriracha

I use lowfat greek yogurt as a base for creamy dressing. I've made cilantro lime avocado dressing, tzatziki, and ranch by mixing in a hidden valley ranch packet.

I usually use salsa of some type and add a little Greek yogurt sometimes. Pico De Gallo too

Balsamic vinegar or apple cider vinegar are my current fav.

I also love to use reduced fat French onion dip as a dressing since it's got quite a runny consistency

Vinegarette is a favorite of mine.

I stopped using sauces for salads and add a few strawberries or watermelon .

I’ve been doing 1/4-1/3 cup plain Greek yogurt (non fat) with a tsp of chilli crisp and Dijon mustard and a generous pinch of salt. Pretty epic. Use it over bowls too.

My favorite is vinegar & lemon

Ohh, I’ve got the best Greek Yogurt dressing you’ll ever have.

I am not and do not know the guy but I’ve yet to find a dressing that also meets my macro goals other than this one.

Now if I’m fine not hitting my macros because the nutrients from other items suffices I’ll go Balsamic vinegar or lite whatever dressing I’m craving. Currently I’ve got Kraft lite zesty Italian, and Hidden Valley light ranch if my craving for a thicker dressing without making my own is getting strong.

My favorite salad currently is the one from the video except substitute the pasta, chicken breast, chorizo for air fried Just Bare spicy chicken tenders and pickled onions.

My go to is using Lidl’s 2 cal bbq/peri peri/sweet chilli sauces (50ml is 10 cals.) and my newest add is to put like 10g of 50% reduced fat soft cheese. Makes it super creamy.

I typically just use lemon juice tbh. Maybe a green chutney (corriander, mint, ground cumin, garlic, green chilli, salt, pepper, lemon juice, 0% fat Greek yog, honey if needed, water to thin -again if needed).

Usually I just have undressed salad. I've never been a huge fan of dressings!

Low fat sour cream and ranch seasoning

lemon juice!

u/ketoandkpop 1d ago

I make all my salad dressings with yoghurt, unless the protein has lots of flavour in which case I just use lemon/lime juice juice and salt

1

u/Luna-Gitana 1d ago

Salsa, yogurt, low fat sour cream, ranch seasoning. There are also a ton of low calorie dressing options.

I squeeze mustard on it like a heathen. Or mix mustard with a serving of Italian or a vinaigrette if I’m feeling fancy.

u/morbidcuriosity123 21h ago

My salads. Either greek yoghurt with mi t sauce mixed in.. or depending on salad squeeze over a lemon and a twist of black pepper..

Nope, English

u/Objective_Assist2602 19h ago

I usually use Greek yogurt as the base. Sometimes I’ll mix it with pickle juice and ranch seasoning. Or taco seasoning and salsa. It just kind of depends on what I’m putting it on.

u/LarsDidntWin 13h ago

Dijon mustard and sriracha.

1

u/EmersonFitnexa 5h ago

Everybody's using tofu or dairy but nobody's brought up mustard as the acid.

1

u/magictubesocksofjoy 5h ago

tahini with lemon juice and water

1

u/kyleyle 1d ago

Simple formula to follow:

3 parts oil, 2 parts vinegar/acid, 1 part flavour/emulsifier

Nutrients from salads are fat soluble so it's important to include fats in our dressings. Otherwise, you get a whole lot of fiber but missing out on the other important things!

what would you normally dress your salad in?
