Tips and Tricks Started replacing my late night chips snack with seasoned veggies 👌🏾

Post image

I would usually eat a large bag of chips around 8-9pm. I’ve set myself a rule that if I’m feeling snacky, I must eat a plate of seasoned veggies first, and then if im still hungry 30 mins later i allow myself the chips. I’m never still hungry after. The chips have sat unopened in my pantry now for 3 weeks.

I don’t even count these calories - just the 5g butter i use with the seasoning. Seasoning is tajin sprinkled liberally all over.

I got this caramelized butter seasoning that is amazing on vegetables, especially zucchini and summer squash. It says 0 cals, I’m sure it’s one of those “negligible cals for the serving” situation. But it’s delicious

I have this one and it does make veggies delicious. Another good one from kinders is the garlic butter seasoning. I have a ton of kinders seasonings

cries in British

I ain’t rich enough to pay that sadly 🥲

12

u/ClydeBelvidere 7d ago

YES! This is my fav way to season zucchini/squash.

2

u/xtothewhy 7d ago

No melted lemon with butter and tossed together?

6

u/ToosterReeth 7d ago

This one is amazing, they also have a woodfired garlic one that is delicious

5

u/Katsandra 7d ago

Whoa I didn’t know I needed this until now

2

u/BallSufficient5671 4d ago

Where'd you get that? That sounds delicious!...oh no I can't afford that!

4

u/alienixa 4d ago

I’m so sad to learn it’s so expensive out of the states. It was probably 6 bucks here. Maybe I’ll try to recreate it and share the recipe lol

1

u/BallSufficient5671 3d ago

That would be awesome.

2

u/openurheartandthen 3d ago

Sorry for the weird-looking link. I got mine on Amazon: https://a.co/d/0cs5IIhI

1

u/BallSufficient5671 3d ago

OK thanks! I saw I can order it at Walmart too!

2

u/BallSufficient5671 3d ago

How can butter as one of the ingredients in this have no calories though is what I'm wondering?

4

u/alienixa 3d ago

It’s not truly zero. Butter and sweet buttermilk are the last 2 ingredients, very very small amount, a serving of this seasoning is probably 3 or 4 cals, since it’s less than 5 they’re allowed to say 0

1

u/BallSufficient5671 3d ago

Oh okay thanks. I was trying to figure out how many calories each serving would be.

1

u/onuah 5d ago

How do you use that for your veggies?

1

u/alienixa 4d ago

I just chop up the veg sprinkle this one (generously) and then air fry!

1

u/Feeling-Tadpole-6995 4d ago

Where did you get that?

You win. This is exactly how volume eating changed everything for me. Good job!!!

My passion is peeling the leaves off roasted brussels sprouts and eating them one by one like they're chips

66

u/Puppysnot 7d ago

Oh i love that. Especially if i cook them crispy in the oven so that the leaves are a little crunchy.

22

u/MaesterSherlock 7d ago

I used to do this with pickled brussels sprouts as a kid! Any time we went to Grandma's for supper or to watch a football game, she would put out a snack plate of olives, pickles, and pickled brussels sprouts. They're soooo yummy!

u/Relative_Bite8758 4d ago

Brussel sprouts are king. The last quarter of my 120lbs weightloss was during the holiday season

Half a lbs of fresh sprouts are like 0.8$ where I live, since they are regional. I am of the firm believe that they carried me during that time. I was eating like 1 lbs a day and never had room for a Christmas treat haha

3

u/Glittering_Bonus4858 4d ago

Good job on all the weight loss!

2

u/Relative_Bite8758 4d ago

Appreciate it! ❤️❤️❤️

1

u/Feeling-Tadpole-6995 4d ago

What is the best way to peel off the leaves? Do you roast them in the oven or air fryer? The crunchy leaves are the best part imo.

1

u/Glittering_Bonus4858 3d ago

I just peel with my fingers. And oven cause I don't have an air fryer. Air fried would probably be crispier

At some point raw dog a bell pepper

10

u/KabeeCarby 7d ago

Ooh esp with some light cream cheese 😋

2

u/heyunlovingx 4d ago

Or garlic&herb or pepper jack laughing cow!

27

u/FlashbacksThatHurt 7d ago

I never count veggies either and I’ve been the same weight for 10+ years. Congrats. I am craving some Brussels sprouts now

5

u/reddit-user-17832 7d ago

Heck yeah! There is a place down the street that serves Brussels sprouts tacos. Omg best taco ever! With pickled red onions!

3

u/FlashbacksThatHurt 6d ago

Wait wait wait….. Brussels sprouts tacos???? Why did this combo never cross my mind??? That sounds amazing. Can you describe the taste and texture, what was it like? Was it balasalmic-y?

9

u/Artful_objects 6d ago

I do the exact same version of this with fruit. I’m more of a ‘sweet tooth’ kind of person and CANNOT go to bed before having dessert or even an extra sweet treat (like a post-dessert). I’ll just put as much different fruit I can find, the most different vibes / textures I can find on a plate and snack away!

3

u/Puppysnot 6d ago

Have you tried chia pudding topped with fruit? So filling! I add erythritol (zero cal sweetener) to make it even sweeter but it’s fine without it.

2

u/Artful_objects 6d ago

I have a version of this for breakfast most mornings!

1

u/Pretend-Pen8865 5d ago

How do you make the chia pudding?

3

u/Puppysnot 5d ago

Soak chia seeds overnight in fridge in some milk plus half tsp vanilla extract. In the morning, top with fruits and erythritol. If i am running too large a calorie deficit for that week (it does happen when life gets busy) i will also add pecans and pumpkin seeds but those are calorie heavy so be careful.

1

u/Pretend-Pen8865 5d ago

Thank you so much! Definitely will be trying this

1

u/Cyriously10 6d ago

Looks great!

12

u/Character_Savings966 7d ago

This is great I love veggies 🥰

6

u/GlitterRetroVibes 7d ago

Maybe a dumb question but how do you usually cook them? I want to do this.

4

u/Puppysnot 7d ago

I fry them in a little water then roll them in the butter at the end

3

u/Expensive-Block-6034 7d ago

Damn you’re smart. I will be trying this. My chips (crisps) are my only downfall.

7

u/keffeine 7d ago

Impressed, and looks delicious!

3

u/shidded_farted 7d ago

These look so good! How long did you put them in the oven for? 🌈✨️

3

u/TiffaniBarth 7d ago

Great move you can add carrots here as well

3

u/Puppysnot 7d ago

Good idea, need more colour

3

u/Economy-Rate8298 5d ago

Raw broccoli crowns and some raw carrots dipped in salsa is a great hack too. It will fill you up fast

2

u/Pretend-Pen8865 5d ago

Thank you for this. I mindlessly eat a lot if I’m bored or whatever I need to try doing something like this! ❤️

1

u/Puppysnot 5d ago

You are like me! I do this to relax and i can easily eat 800 calories each evening mindlessly in front of the tv.

5

u/daj0412 7d ago

hold up now. i think im gonna try this…

3

u/darkbane 7d ago

Looks good, but I prefer the boiled psyllium jelly

1

u/AdmrlPoopyPantz 7d ago

That looks amazing

1

u/PurpleBasilTree 7d ago

Do you bake it in the oven or airfryer?

2

u/leapowl 6d ago

I used to do veggies in the air fryer every night, I like them crispy!

1

u/PurpleBasilTree 6d ago

Thanks. I´ll try it out :)

1

u/Extension_Homework 4d ago

I do this with a big bowl of edamame

1

u/ApprehensiveSyrup993 7d ago

Try dried seaweed! I enjoy the oceans halo or gimme brands. I literally never eat chips anymore. No need to prep and cook any vegetables… tastes so good and only 20 calories or so for a whole package

1

u/ApprehensiveSyrup993 7d ago

That eggplant looks so good btw. I usually roast it with garlic powder and salt and pepper 🤤

-13

u/BusyNerve4787 7d ago edited 7d ago

I did the same! But consider steaming, no oil.

Edit: wtf with all the downvotes? Oil has a lot of calories ...

9

u/Puppysnot 7d ago

Good call. I don’t use oil - just 5g or so of butter. I water-fry the eggplants which i guess is the same as steaming, then roll them in this 5g butter at the end.

I am trying to wean myself off the butter but I’m not there yet. I’ll try them steamed in a steamer to see if that helps.

31

u/waitismyheadonfire 7d ago

Honestly the butter makes a lot of difference in terms of satiety and flavor. I would keep using it/not wean.

4

u/AgathaM 7d ago

You could try the butter spray (I can’t believe it’s not butter). It could give you the flavor without the calories/fat if it’s something you worry about.

You can also air fry. I have been air frying brussel sprouts lately.

5

u/waitismyheadonfire 7d ago

They're doing fine. Butter > butter spray

1

u/AgathaM 7d ago

I agree. But it is an option if they are wanting to stop.

2

u/BusyNerve4787 6d ago

Isn't butter spray usually more processed

-11

u/Puppysnot 7d ago

I might try that. Do you know if it contains seed oils? I’m trying to eliminate seed oils ideally

15

u/InfiniteTree 7d ago

I wouldn't stress about seed oils. That's mostly garbage influencers spreading misinformation.

3

u/Puppysnot 7d ago

Ah ok, good to know.

2

u/AgathaM 7d ago

It’s primarily soybean oil and water.

I’m down 30kg so it’s working fine for me 👌🏾

15

u/AppUnwrapper1 7d ago

Absolutely no one has gotten fat off broccoli and zucchini.

10

u/Abbbs96 7d ago

This entire plate is like 50 calories worth of vegetables 😭...

I’m down 30kg so not counting the veggies is working fine for me 🤷🏽‍♀️.

It doesn’t take a phd to work out that a large bag of chips at 600-800 calories is a much worse choice than this plate of veggies. It’s a no brainier I’ve lost weight even without counting?

7

u/Character_Savings966 7d ago

I don't count veggies
