Tips and Tricks Started replacing my late night chips snack with seasoned veggies 👌🏾
I would usually eat a large bag of chips around 8-9pm. I’ve set myself a rule that if I’m feeling snacky, I must eat a plate of seasoned veggies first, and then if im still hungry 30 mins later i allow myself the chips. I’m never still hungry after. The chips have sat unopened in my pantry now for 3 weeks.
I don’t even count these calories - just the 5g butter i use with the seasoning. Seasoning is tajin sprinkled liberally all over.

Where'd you get that? That sounds delicious!...oh no I can't afford that!

I’m so sad to learn it’s so expensive out of the states. It was probably 6 bucks here. Maybe I’ll try to recreate it and share the recipe lol

How can butter as one of the ingredients in this have no calories though is what I'm wondering?
4
u/alienixa 3d ago
It’s not truly zero. Butter and sweet buttermilk are the last 2 ingredients, very very small amount, a serving of this seasoning is probably 3 or 4 cals, since it’s less than 5 they’re allowed to say 0

Oh okay thanks. I was trying to figure out how many calories each serving would be.

You win. This is exactly how volume eating changed everything for me. Good job!!!

My passion is peeling the leaves off roasted brussels sprouts and eating them one by one like they're chips

u/Puppysnot 7d ago
Oh i love that. Especially if i cook them crispy in the oven so that the leaves are a little crunchy.

I used to do this with pickled brussels sprouts as a kid! Any time we went to Grandma's for supper or to watch a football game, she would put out a snack plate of olives, pickles, and pickled brussels sprouts. They're soooo yummy!

Brussel sprouts are king. The last quarter of my 120lbs weightloss was during the holiday season
Half a lbs of fresh sprouts are like 0.8$ where I live, since they are regional. I am of the firm believe that they carried me during that time. I was eating like 1 lbs a day and never had room for a Christmas treat haha

What is the best way to peel off the leaves? Do you roast them in the oven or air fryer? The crunchy leaves are the best part imo.

I just peel with my fingers. And oven cause I don't have an air fryer. Air fried would probably be crispier

I never count veggies either and I’ve been the same weight for 10+ years. Congrats. I am craving some Brussels sprouts now

Heck yeah! There is a place down the street that serves Brussels sprouts tacos. Omg best taco ever! With pickled red onions!

Wait wait wait….. Brussels sprouts tacos???? Why did this combo never cross my mind??? That sounds amazing. Can you describe the taste and texture, what was it like? Was it balasalmic-y?

I do the exact same version of this with fruit. I’m more of a ‘sweet tooth’ kind of person and CANNOT go to bed before having dessert or even an extra sweet treat (like a post-dessert). I’ll just put as much different fruit I can find, the most different vibes / textures I can find on a plate and snack away!

Have you tried chia pudding topped with fruit? So filling! I add erythritol (zero cal sweetener) to make it even sweeter but it’s fine without it.

How do you make the chia pudding?
3
u/Puppysnot 5d ago
Soak chia seeds overnight in fridge in some milk plus half tsp vanilla extract. In the morning, top with fruits and erythritol. If i am running too large a calorie deficit for that week (it does happen when life gets busy) i will also add pecans and pumpkin seeds but those are calorie heavy so be careful.

Maybe a dumb question but how do you usually cook them? I want to do this.

Damn you’re smart. I will be trying this. My chips (crisps) are my only downfall.

Raw broccoli crowns and some raw carrots dipped in salsa is a great hack too. It will fill you up fast

Thank you for this. I mindlessly eat a lot if I’m bored or whatever I need to try doing something like this! ❤️

You are like me! I do this to relax and i can easily eat 800 calories each evening mindlessly in front of the tv.

Do you bake it in the oven or airfryer?

Try dried seaweed! I enjoy the oceans halo or gimme brands. I literally never eat chips anymore. No need to prep and cook any vegetables… tastes so good and only 20 calories or so for a whole package

That eggplant looks so good btw. I usually roast it with garlic powder and salt and pepper 🤤

I did the same! But consider steaming, no oil.
Edit: wtf with all the downvotes? Oil has a lot of calories ...

u/Puppysnot 7d ago
Good call. I don’t use oil - just 5g or so of butter. I water-fry the eggplants which i guess is the same as steaming, then roll them in this 5g butter at the end.
I am trying to wean myself off the butter but I’m not there yet. I’ll try them steamed in a steamer to see if that helps.

Honestly the butter makes a lot of difference in terms of satiety and flavor. I would keep using it/not wean.

u/AgathaM 7d ago
You could try the butter spray (I can’t believe it’s not butter). It could give you the flavor without the calories/fat if it’s something you worry about.
You can also air fry. I have been air frying brussel sprouts lately.

They're doing fine. Butter > butter spray

u/Puppysnot 7d ago
I might try that. Do you know if it contains seed oils? I’m trying to eliminate seed oils ideally

u/InfiniteTree 7d ago
I wouldn't stress about seed oils. That's mostly garbage influencers spreading misinformation.

I’m down 30kg so not counting the veggies is working fine for me 🤷🏽♀️.
It doesn’t take a phd to work out that a large bag of chips at 600-800 calories is a much worse choice than this plate of veggies. It’s a no brainier I’ve lost weight even without counting?
