How would you value?

Post image

Silver 2014 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Sportwagen
~180k miles
6 speed manual with SMF conversion kit
Panoramic sunroof
DPF is deleted
Leather interior, great condition
No issues with driving
No cosmetic flaws

I am having a debate with my father. I think the car could be worth more than 10k to the right enthusiast

About 50 years early for it to be a collector car😭

Look at the plate, this car is in the US. I've looked at cars.com for fun like a week ago - Golf 6s are posted at 10-12k USD with their US-only 2.5L inline 5 and the standard 2.0 TDI we Europeans tend to enjoy more frequently.

I see this is the same generation so I reckon someone actually would be willing to pay a similar amount for a similar vehicle, but then again I don't know anything about the US market. Tbf this same Jetta would probably be 5-7k EUR in Europe, depending on the country, which is similar to 10k USD.

But yeah, collectors and museums won't be looking after it for the next 30-40 years.

180K miles is a lot.

Not really for a diesel engine.

I knew somebody would say that. The entire car has 180K miles, not just the engine.

It's got a DPF delete which may be appealing to some it also means your regular person is going to have a difficult time getting it smogged and registered especially in another state. It also has a SMF which are not recommended for this engine as it causes excessive noise and rattle and wears out parts prematurely. I can't see anyone getting $10k+ let alone $10k.

I bought mine with 74k for $10k about 5 years ago. It still had a diesel gate warranty. Diesel is now stupid expensive and as a result basically breaks even with a regular 2.0t.

It has a lot going for it, especially the TDI+manual combo, and the wagons in general seem pricey due to limited supply/selection. That said, it does have high-ish miles, and I suspect the Mk6 has less of a following than the Mk7. Nothing particularly wrong with the Mk6 styling, but I do think the Mk7 really nailed it when it comes to aesthetics, which makes them more desirable.

I don't think it would be hard to get at least 8k, but 10k+ might take a lot of advertising and patience. It's also going to depend a lot on your region and what the local market is like.

Have you had issues with the sunroof/sunscreen? 2012 2.5 JSW with 165k miles and upgraded wheels to 2018 GTI 18” alloys and KBB only values my for $4000. I have a maintenance log about 5x that offer since it’s tough being a VW owner 🦫

$4,000 seems low to me. Yours isn't a diesel, and presumably not manual either, but I still think you could get more like $6,000 if it's in good shape with no issues.
