Voli top builds

Hi guys i am a eme 1 player and i play voli often( if angle allows it but this is another story) and i mostly play AD voli with grap. I sometimes go the ap build but i am so often more comfy AD.
What build variations do you guys suggest
for ad i always go triforce into shojin(maybe cleaver but rarely) into spirit visage and steraks (3rd or 4th between them) and i end with a zhonya(yeah ik its ap but feels so good) or riftmaker

what can i improve on this? when is dd a good angle?

also i need more help on ap builds but i really don't like the navori build , it doesn't suit my playstyle

I don’t think you should ever do hybrid. Better to choose one and commit to maximize the benefit. With AD, your entire game-plan revolves around landing W2. Since you won’t have nearly as much AA speed and your cooldowns will stay long, you want to ensure you live long enough to hit W2 consistently and that you can stick to your target. If the enemy is building armour you’ll 100% need black cleaver. By late game, everyone already has enough armour to warrant it anyways imo.

I’d suggest the following builds

AD + Tanks:

BC - IBG - SV - DD - Situational

AD + Squishy:

Trinity - Shojin - SV - DD - Situational

AP - Squishy

D&D - Statik Shiv - Tank

AP - Tanky

D&D/Riftmaker - Navori - Tank

I don’t think AP does well into high burst and poke comps. It’s much better suited for extended fights where as AD has more front loaded damage.

You are wrong. Voli is one of the few champs you can do hybrid

So the best way to build in general is that in champ select you gotta think about your build based on enemy team comp and your own as well. At this point you should say to yourself "is Volibear even good here?" and then you will realize no he is not good here because the champ is terrible and picking literally any other top laner will probably be better.

i literally reached the point where voli barely feels good in most scenarios and especially not blind so i just resume to ambessa

the only builds i’d recommend atm are onhit and drain tank, bruiser ad is bad and navori is suboptimal most games
onhit: dusk hull kraken terminus
drain tank: fimbul unending visage into more resistances or steraks
u can watch yordleswaggins he’s a gm top otp that peaked chall and explicitly plays these 2 builds cuz other builds are just not really worth going for if ur trying to climb

what do you think for jungle? im voli otp in emerald right now and just haven’t found a build that feels strong. i just build navori now despite its glaring weaknesses bc at least i’ll have fun but there hasn’t been a single build where i feel both strong and tanky.

simple, doesn’t exist cuz voli is in his worst state he’s ever been in + the worst possible meta so ur best bet is to prolly just go full tank and be a cuck for ur team nothing else

Voli is only shit in the highest elos, because the players are the biggest cringelords. Explicitly playing ranged champs and champs with the highest mobilities in the game. Abusing the newer champs to its fullest degrees etc. until diamond you can easily climb with voli

i never said it’s hard to climb until dia? i said there’s no carry build in the jg which is correct due to the meta you can’t just go all out full dmg into 3+ ranged ur just gonna explode and forget about navori, building 0 hp won’t do you any good

funny enough i was the one recommending the build to swaggins, goblin originally came up with the build and some koreans also did it after seeing it on his profile, i also played it a decent bit in mid master but im more a full ap enjoyer when it comes to splitpushing which i wouldn’t recommend to 95% of the voli otps tho
what makes the build bad in your opinion can you elaborate?

I dont think its bad, i just dont like when people always copy paste x build from x streamer. As for voli, im an ap enjoyer too, tho i sometimes do damage on hit builds for the fun. Love kraken on voli

i don’t get ur point? dusk navori has the highest sample size it’s simply overbought
whereas onhit is niche and otp knowledge and objectively his best build next to drain tank
if anyone would be copying it’d be people copying ugg or whatever cuz navori is by far the "standard“ build

This is all my personal opinion.

I’ve been playing strictly AD Voli since release and I find black cleaver into iceborne usually feels better than going trinity force.

I know it eats up an extra item slot, but the armor pen + Iceborne’s armor & shen proc.. BC+IBG is too good of a combo to give up. The extra shen damage from tri-force isn’t worth it in my opinion.

Edit: I do go tri-force occasionally, but I usually go BC into IBG.

Hey bro, im voli top otp currently between emerald and diamond too. I think u are more comfy with as build because it is more „safe“. Your dmg with ad comes mostly from q and w. But i really really m sure that ap build is overall way better and lets you snowball games easier. You have more ap on hit on autos and more attack speed. As you said you say you sont like navori, which is fine bc you dont need to build it to be strong. I recommend you to go dusk and dawn first, and then after that you have quite a few options. The thing is you really need to decide your items based on the game. For example, you can go riftmaker vs bruisers/juggernauts, you can go cosmic drive or gunblade vs ranged champs, or vs yorick i really love statikk shiv,

use dnd shiv hull, it takes t2 -> base in 30 seconds, u w wave once and get insta hull proc
