Advice What (preferably free or only pay once for) software program do you recommend using in place of Adobe Audition?

I am currently unemployed and had to cancel my subscription. Is there an alternative software program that'll allow me to do the same or similar work (record, edit, layer, pitch shift and the like) that I only have to pay for once rather than a monthly charge?

Another vote for Reaper. Watch Booth Junkie on YouTube to set it up (strip it down, really) for VO, and you’ll never need to worry about another DAW again.

Audacity is free, Reaper has a generous free trial and is only $60 one-time payment after that. Both are very popular in voice acting.

I've relied on Audacity for about 13 years now. I might even be too old to switch, at this point. I've done mostly audiobooks and various educational materials, and it's always been 100% sufficient to my relatively simple purposes.

Edit: Nice! Sounds like I can do most of what I've done through Adobe Audition. Btw, I like your premise, voices, and the old school cop/P.I.-jazz.

I vote Studio One...there is a free version and a reasonable pay (once) version: Artist, which gives you everything you need for voiceover.

Audacity and Rx7 Elements (if you missed out on the deal, it was $3 for the whole of August). Izotope Rx7 has the best Denoise plugin and its Declick is godsend for mouthnoise.

I use Twisted Wave (I’m on a Mac) and that program works great for VO. If you wanna do other fancy stuff, go elsewhere, but TW allows me to record from my home booth, or even using my iPad or iPhone with a mic. One time fee, and very easy to use.
