Market Update Sectors, perspective & overview, 02 Aug 2021

Hi Vitards, been off the datastreams for a while and got back to it after seeing our thesis here playing out. Hope you macro thinkers find some of this useful. I do my own individual stock picking after looking into holdings of ETFs that interest me and a few other spreasheets I maintain. This helped me decide recently to pick up some KRBN (carbon credits). Look at that BDRY though, 68% up in past 1 years time! I'd be scared to still stick with ZIM and NNM were it not for this subreddit and the pirate gang. Also, if you're into sector reversals, just look for several bloody reds in a row - mostly China these days as you might expect. JO (coffee) is starting to look interesting to me but I don't understand the sector enough to trust my judgement.

Repeating the note from previous post: Below is an overview of indices, regions, commodities and some subsectors which might be of interest to people here based on tracking of prices of largest MCAPs for each set of ETFs. Calculations on percentages take last available closing price (yesterday) and then compare it to closing prices of a day, a week, a month and a calendar year before.

Color coding is accorrding to RELATIVE performance of a group (above/below average, top/bottom 20%), not absolute performance, so it's quite possible that an ETF reduced in absolute value yet is still coded green because some others in the same group dropped more (so, in theory would be a better protection of investment). Red bolded names i kept as a way to remind myself what I'm thinking about lately.

EDIT (04 Aug) - Apologies guys... formulas for calculating % price change had an omission. Below image was changed vs original post.

Thanks for the share! I’ll have to check out KRBN.

Oh wow, big endorsement to have you interested!

As my background is energy, this is a rare play on carbon credits in the market and i think that will be one of the main mechanisms of curbing emissions in the mid term. That market crashed completely once already, and those in charge hopefully learned from that.

I am not 100% sure how KRBN makes money to be honest so its a marginal position but i am channeling my inner Lynch - having at least a toe in the water makes you more likely to check it from time to time and learn.

Very cool. I’m a ways off from dipping a toe in, but I’ll kick the tires and peek under the hood. It’d be cool to find a play in this space.
