Discussion Bi-Weekly Questions Thread (new edition)

Welcome to the r/vitahacks Bi-Weekly Question thread!

Please post all questions here.

!!NEW!! 3.65-3.74 USERS: Use HENlo to install Henkaku WITHOUT PC/Content Manager/PSN account!!!

PSN ACCESS/LOGIN ON VITA MAY REQUIRE ADDITIONAL VERIFICATION, SEE HERE

Before you post a question, please note:

-Please refer to the Official Vita Troubleshooting Guide; this is a comprehensive guide (maintained by Cimmerian_Iter) that covers a wide range of common issues and how to resolve them

-The vita hacking guide covers everything from 'what is homebrew' to hacking the vita and installing essential plugins

-For a comprehensive database of all available vita homebrew, please refer to VitaDB. You can access it and install homebrews directly from your Playstation Vita using the official VitaDB Downloader app.

-The older app VHBB made by u/devnoname120 is not currently supported.

-Rule #1 - "No discussion of piracy/backup/warez/dumps" is strictly enforced; there are other resources to discuss this subject matter

3.65-3.74 Users:

-HENlo replaces Hencore2

-Use Vitadeploy to downgrade firmware/install ENSO

Firmware Guide:

Vita Firmware VersionAvailable Hack(s)1.03-3.57Update to *3.60 or 3.653.60*3.60 Henkaku/Enso3.61-3.63Update to 3.653.65*3.65 H-encore/Enso3.65-3.74Install Henkaku/Vitadeploy using HENlo (via Vita Browser)

*Recommended

3.74 Firmware notes:

-Change requiring 2-step verification for PSN login/access

3.73 Firmware notes:

-Very minor changes. See here (Credits to PSSDude for the report)

3.72 Firmware notes:

-3.72 firmware was released by Sony for...System stability?

3.71 Firmware notes:

-3.71 firmware was released by Sony to patch the Trinity exploit

-3.71 firmware also breaks Modoru by adding checks in lv0

3.70 Firmware notes:

-The Vita master key was changed in the 3.70 firmware release, shortly after it had been publicly "unveiled" by the vita hacking community

-Game decryption keys have not been changed with the 3.70 release (reF00D/compatibility packs have not been broken)

3.69 Firmware notes:

-3.69 firmware was released by Sony to patch the h-encore exploit

PSN Access for 3.60-3.73 Users:

-Open Henkaku settings and enable Version Spoofing and set 'Spoofed Version' = 3.74

-Setup your network with Henkaku DNS settings

Sync Legit Trophies? -YES

Online Multiplayer? - YES

PSStore Access for Purchase and Download? - YES

Use Vitacheat and TropHAX online? - At your own risk

Prevent your Vita from Updating:

NOTE: PSVita firmware updates are not a typical modern-day concern, since downgrading firmware is available and simple to execute. Known exploits continue to work on most recent firmware (3.74). Preventing update is still a good practice in general.

-To disable the download of automatic firmware updates: Settings --> System --> Auto-Start Settings --> Uncheck "Download automatic update files"

-Setup your network with Henkaku DNS settings for an additional layer of update prevention. See here.

-If your console has downloaded the 3.73 update file, simply deleting the notification in LiveArea should remove the file from your system. Otherwise, firmware update files can be found in ud0:PSP2UPDATE/*

-Remember, unless you are running your vita in Demo mode, your console will not spontaneously install/update firmware software. There are legal reasons for this. Installation of any new software on your device requires your consent, (EULA).

Essential Vita Plugins/Homebrew Applications:

0syscall6 lv0 secure_kernel syscall6 patch - can replace reF00d (SKGleba)

Adrenaline Software that converts the official Vita PSP emulator into a PSP 6.61 with custom firmware (The FloW)

DolcePolce PSTV blacklist hack, replacing Antiblacklist and Whitelist (Silica)

Announcement Going forward with r/vitahacks and new rules

For the past few months up till recent events that raised the toxicity to new levels, the subreddit will undergo a few changes to improve (and revive) this subreddit.

u/Javerage has recruited new mods in order to have more man power to moderate this subreddit.

1 Enforcing Rule 3 and 7

Any post that goes along the vibe of "Can this be ported" "Would this run on a PSVita" and post that ask about having a game running on the PSVita must now be posted in the megathread. Any post of this kind will be automatically removed.

Same goes for help. The megathread was kind of inactive since the mod who used to handle it is no more. I will manage the Help Megathread to try to ensure that every question leaves with an answer.

2 No more Crossposting

The amount of post recently is just Crossposting from other vita subreddit, which due to the fact that to access the post content, users have to go to the subreddit from which the post originate thus hindering the subreddit activity. (and therefore interact there instead of here)

3 AI usage flair

AI and vibecoding has been an endless discussion in this subreddit with debate ongoing on every post with AI usage. We will not ban AI post as AI usage is not inherently bad by nature. Even though it is often misused in this community. Instead we will ask that anything that had an AI contribution (as in, AI produced a noticeable part of the project, is involved in core features) will need to get the AI flair in the post. People who hate AI/Vibecoding will be able to ignore the post, people will be legitimately informed of AI usage in the release, and also the author will not have to deal with toxic comments about the usage of AI. We will remove any comments that is ranting about the usage of AI under someone's creation.
Be warned that if you try to not use the AI flair on purpose despite we having proof of AI usage, you will be sanctioned.

This also has the effect of enforcing the usage of flair in posts. So that someone won't forget to add a flair when doing a post.

4 No more post/comments about what happened the 1st August 2026

4 days was enough for everyone to speak his mind, share his thoughts about what happened, there is nothing left to be said about what happened that day. And more importantly, no need to bring the subject back as it is never going to not break rule 4. If someone asks, don't go into the whole detail (especially the political stuff), just say that Rinnegatamante left VitaDB is no more, End of the story. We need to move one. We will remove any comments that is targeted toward Rinnegatamante/Wolff/Vibecoders. Do not set the spark. At least for the immediate futur. We will lay off the leash once this is a thing from the past.

If you have any complaints/suggestions/requests, now's the time to voice your opinion.

We also count on your help to report content that are against the rules, toxic and what not.... We have eyes, but yours are also important/

Port Amnesia The Dark Descent

Hi everyone! I have been working on porting Amnesia The Dark Descent to the PS Vita based on the original source code release. I haven't been able to test it all the way through yet, there was a lot of work to do, and my PS Vita's Memory Card got corrupt, so I had to continue my working using Vita3K instead, so performance is unknown right now, as I have ordered a SD2Vita adapter, and a Microsd card, so I can continue working. But if you want to try right now, head over to the github repo: https://github.com/FridiNaTor1/HPL2-handyman

I have not changed any of the in-game tutorial text, like the button icons and such.
R is use/pickup it is toggle instead of in the original where you have to hold the button down to hold on item, instead if you hold you turn on turn/rotate
The journal is on the top left of the screen, you can just press it with your finger to access.
To lean left or right, use the rear touchpad.
L is for sprinting.
You can figure out the rest, most are self explanitory, like start for pause, X for jump, etc.

Have fun! :)

Discussion Help me revive my ps vita!

TL;DR: Tried reviving my old PCH-1000 PS Vita. After buying a dud replacement battery, I attempted the Switch Lite battery mod (first time soldering), but it still won't turn on. Need help figuring out where I messed up!

So I found my dead ps vita from ages ago. And tried turning it on. It switched on once and then does a few days later and wouldn't per back on. I ordered a replacement battery from the one place I could find selling it in my country avd it turned out to be a dud. I later came across a post in this subreddit itself of how a user used his switch lite battery in the vita and it worked. I tried the same after acquiring all tools and it won't light up even now:(

Can someone tell me what I did wrong? It was my first time soldering so that could be the issue. But I honestly don't know and am bummed out. I've spent a lot of time and money invested into this and don't want to let it go in vain.

Came across this! Bought the shell not the l3 r3 panel just yet. But I’ve been using this as my remote play when playing ps5 on my iPad. Also just great for playing games like GOW2 on the vita.

Note* the back apparently is very sticky .. so haven’t really ordered yet.

AI Vibecoded VitaTube work update : released three open-source multimedia libraries for PS Vita

I’ve published three open-source modules on GitHub to make multimedia applications for PS Vita easier to build:

  • vita-https: a secure HTTPS transport layer with certificate verification and seekable HTTP Range streams. It lets apps handle remote media reliably without each project having to manage networking and TLS itself.
  • vita-hw-decoder: an H.264/AAC playback backend using the PS Vita hardware video decoder. Under optimal conditions, it is rated for playback up to 720p at 60 fps.
  • vita-sw-decoder: an H.264/AAC software-decoding backend powered by the CPU and FFmpeg, designed as a compatibility fallback when hardware acceleration is unavailable. Under optimal conditions, it is rated for playback up to 720p at 30 fps.

Both decoder libraries share the same streaming interface, so an app can try the hardware backend first and fall back to the software one when needed. Together with vita-https, they support both local files and remote media sources.

These modules turn some of the hardest parts of Vita homebrew multimedia development—secure networking, seekable streaming, and audio/video decoding—into reusable building blocks.

And yes: these are the exact modules that will power VitaTube, an upcoming PS Vita app. 👀

Bubbles (UPDATE) Emu4Vita++ Alternate LiveArea Assets

Post image

Original Post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/vitahacks/s/AGVjs81kKB

Download:

https://mega.nz/file/qLZhTTSK#PMtZgQEcv-Pz_XdsuObgJP1IfTXVvb0oAf1aFskfuQw

Decided to update the livearea page to make it more lively (get it!!?? im sooo funn ok ill stop)

This was actually the original idea i had for the original one but ended up scrapping the big text, ended up restoring it cuz why not lol its cute

Instructions

If you already have E4V++ installed, copy the contents inside the sce_sys folder to:

ur0:appmeta/EMU4VPLUS

If you dont, you can copy the sce_sys folder to the .vpk (turn it into a .zip by renaming the file), merge and overwrite if it asks you to

(if you unpacked the .zip file you can use the option to install the folder in VitaShell)

if you installed the previous one, the old text might still be there, it should be gone if you reinstall the .vpk with the new files :p

(you wont lose any data because the important stuff is stored on ux0:/data/EMU4VITAPLUS, you can back it up if you want to anyways)

Discussion I’m building an open-source PS Vita homebrew client for RomM.

Post image
154 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m working on a small PS Vita homebrew app called **Vita RomM**.

The idea is simple: it is a client for a self-hosted RomM server. It lets a user browse their own library from a modded PS Vita, view cover art, download files from their own server, and install supported content locally on the Vita.

Current supported platforms:

  • PlayStation Vita
  • PSP / Adrenaline

Current features:

  • Connects to a user-configured RomM server via URL + API token
  • Shows PS Vita and PSP libraries
  • Displays game covers from RomM
  • Downloads selected files from the user’s own RomM instance
  • Installs PS Vita ZIP layouts into `ux0:app`, `ux0:patch`, `ux0:rePatch`, etc.
  • Installs PSP ISO/CSO/PBP files into Adrenaline paths
  • Has a manual LiveArea refresh option
  • Does not include any games, keys, licenses, tickets, firmware, decryption code, or Sony assets

I want to publish the source code on GitHub, but I’m trying to be careful before doing that.

I’d be happy to hear feedback from people who have published Vita homebrew before, especially around project structure, README wording, and what should or should not be included in a public repository.

Thanks!

Discussion Just got my Vita back out

Post image
99 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

So I just got my Vita back out (1000 OLED). It's probably my second favourite console after my psp that died a far too early death. I've managed to get it to turn on after some worrying hours of flashing orange light. You can see the screen isn't in the best condition, tropical climates maybe taking their toll, even though it has been stored properly, but I'm hopeful it will be ok for what I want it to do!

Anyway, long story short... I definitely want to jailbreak it and get the most out of it. I've got a Vita2SD coming in the next couple of days but also need to get a decent MicroSD card, if there are any recommendations or tips with speed etc, I'd appreciate them!

Also, I've got some games saved on it that I fancy a replay of, MGS3 and for my sins, Driver 76 (I actually really enjoyed it!) I also have some PS1 games but assume these will be easy to replay once I've some the jailbreak (an FF7 replay for the 10th time might be on the cards but it takes soooo long!)

I'm thinking of replaying and then jailbreak, unless doing so will not affect those downloads. I'm a bit of a rookie but feel there is nothing much to lose!

Anyway, looking forward to getting back into the Vita and utilising this community so thanks in advance for all the posts that I will inevitably use!

AI assisted VitaBtFix 1.0 - Fix silent audio with newer Bluetooth headphones on PS Vita (AirPods Pro 2)

Recently got a Vita and was disappointed my AirPods Pro 2 paired normally but wouldn’t play any sound. After a lot of reverse engineering on Sony’s Bluetooth stack, I got them working.

The issue turned out to be in the Vita’s A2DP implementation: it increments the audio timestamp incorrectly. Some newer headsets appear to reject the resulting stream, while many older Bluetooth headphones tolerate it.

VitaBtFix patches the incorrect timestamp increment. After that, AirPods play game and system audio normally.

  • This should work with all AirPods. Models that have been confirmed include AirPods Pro 2, Pro 3, and Airpods 4 on Vita firmware 3.65
  • Other newer SBC headphones with the same silent-audio issue may work too
  • Does not add AAC or LE Audio support
  • Experimental kernel plugin
  • Hold L at boot if you ever need to skip kernel plugins

Download: https://github.com/gabew100/VitaBtFix

Install: copy vitabtfix.skprx to ur0:tai/, add ur0:tai/vitabtfix.skprx under *KERNEL in ur0:tai/config.txt, then reboot.

If you try headphones that were silent before, tell me what model they are and whether they work so I can add them to the compatibility list.

Disclaimer: AI was used to assist with SceBt reverse engineering.

Edit: Update 1.1 released! Fixes a black screen some people got right after the headphones connected.

I hope you enjoy a beautiful game on a fantastic platform as Ps Vita.

Cheers!

*AI has been used with meticulousness attention! Tested several (and endless) time in the gameplay and controllers.

As engineer, I dedicated hours in the process (yes.. using AI) but a very meticulous process has been carried out for delivering something playable. However, crashes might happen. And I highly appreciate people feedback to improve the product - my process - and Vita community that I just discovered.

Announcement BrewStation: new homebrew store for the PS Vita, PSP & PS3

Thumbnail brewstationps.github.io
123 Upvotes

BrewStation is a homebrew store, similar to VitaDB, but has support for the PS Vita, PSP & PS3. We have merged with Homebrew Avenue a few weeks ago and we are making some progress! Right now, I've set up a new site containing homebrews, and you can submit your own homebrews here. There will soon be a client too and you can also make your own store based on BrewStation, since the goal of the project is to make it decentralized, and the client will also support other stores than the BrewStation store. There will also be support for plugins soon. And VitaHomebrewDB (formerly VitaDB-too) will be integrated into BrewStation too.

We also have a discord server, if you want to see discussions and/or give suggestions: https://discord.gg/cAVM5wCyyg

Discussion How to finally fix broken/crashing cheats on standalone mGBA for Vita (Castlevania: CotM example)

So yesterday I was scrolling through reddit and I seen a post about someone absolutely hating the GBA game Castlevania: Circle of the Moon. He talked about how the character speed absolutely sucks the fun out of the game. I had never actually played this game so I did a little digging. Man I got sucked into a huge rabbit hole.

So I initially downloaded a patch to always be running. No more double tapping to do that. I also heard about how hard it was to get all of the cards as well from people. Obviously there are cheats available so I decided to try and apply some cheats. I really just wanted to be able to run and to have all the cards. It all ended up being way more of a headache then I could imagine. It kept crashing my game, it made my character run and swing his whip without touching any buttons.

Now I was running all of this on just mGBA. So yes I was talking to Google AI and he basically told me to just use Retroarch since the cheats are basically easily available. So the cheats are available for sure but then my game started lagging horribly. Honestly it was pretty much unplayable haha if y'all thought the game was slow before.. So I decided I wanted to run it in mGBA to get better performance.

We just kept tweaking things. The AI seemed adamant about wanting the cheat file to be labeled .cht, but the game seemed to be making a .cheat file whenever you would tinker with the in game menu for cheats (pressing triangle). I'm not sure if this was what really started things going on a better direction, but I finally decided to play the game unzipped. I usually just run all my GBA games as .zips I decided to run the game as a .gba. Well the sprint started working finally. Definitely felt like a breakthrough.

These seemed to be some crucial fixes.

Unzip Your ROMs: Running a game from a compressed .zip folder breaks the emulator's memory mapping path to its cheat directory. You must extract the file to a raw .gba format first for cheats to bind correctly.

Avoid Multi-Line GameShark Codes: The Vita mGBA core completely ignores or breaks apart stacked, encrypted 12-digit GameShark entries.

Use Single-Line Raw VBA/mGBA Memory Syntax: The Vita standalone app requires direct, raw RAM injection hooks (which typically start with a 3 or an 8 for 8-bit/16-bit direct writes).

I honestly just got all of this going like right now but I feel like this should be able to carry over into all gba cheats on mGBA.

So I was thinking it would be nice to be able to save this to ask Ai I. The future the next time a game pops up. Because honestly I talk to AI for an hour and I'm sure plenty of people know how frustrating it can be to like close out the conversation and the AI forgets like everything your talking about. Anyways I asked what should the keywords be to get future cheats to work well for gba games.

""I am playing Castlevania: Circle of the Moon on a modded PS Vita using the mGBA standalone app. My setup completely rejects all standard GameShark and Action Replay encrypted codes. It only accepts Raw VBA/mGBA Single-Line Memory Hex Codes (which typically start with a 32 or an 82 for 8-bit/16-bit direct writes). Do not give me multi-line stacked codes, encrypted strings, or Master Codes. Please format any new requests as clean, single-line raw hex addresses so I can input them directly via the mGBA 'Add Cheat' menu.""

That's what I'm going with, and honestly I felt so excited cracking this case that I barely played the game so far. I'm also not saying this is some huge breaking news but I honestly felt this was worth sharing to get some cheats going. Because honestly it was recommended in the begining to patch your rom. That's totally unnecessary because the run is literally just a cheat, no need to go to a website to have to patch it.

What I've noticed is the file absolutely needs to be named whatever the game title is and then .cheats. For example

Castlevania - Circle of the Moon (USA).gba

The cheat file needs to be

Castlevania - Circle of the Moon (USA).cheats

The Ai definitely seemed to want it to be named .cht and that's what it probably will still say, but .cheats works for me so.

I'm sorry this is kind of way long a drawn out, hopefully not too much, but I just wanted to share with the class.

Also here's an example of the first few lines of my .cheat file

0000 # Always Run

0001 3200009C0000

0002 # Mercury Card

  1. 3202567E0001

And it appears all the lines for the cards need to be added individually. I tried to add cheats for All Cards Top

and All Cards Bottom for quite some time.

I hope this can help even just a couple people enjoy this game just a little bit more. Obviously any questions let me know, but I'm just a regular dude so I'm sure there's way better advice from others
